Myths Reawakened

“Failed again. Ranking up is difficult.”

In Death’s Land of Seal, Wayne sat cross-legged by the swamp, opening his eyes with resignation. He had seen his Golden Triangle and maintained it for fifteen minutes, but then the triangle reverted to the Silver Cross, stubbornly sticking to its old way.

Stability was good, but too much stability wasn’t necessarily so.

By the swamp, Anastasia stood quietly in her black robe. With her as the center, the thin Death energy lurked and spread. She was performing the Death Knight’s role of guarding the land. Looking closely, one would notice that she had deliberately avoided Wayne, making sure no trace of Death energy got close to him.

That was the quality of a qualified follower, unlike Senna, who defied her superior and extorted her own faith.

“Mr. Wayne, did it fail again?”

“It succeeded briefly.”

Wayne shook his head regretfully. Thinking back to the fifteen minutes where the Golden Triangle was stable, the Book of Greed seemed to have changed. He saw it as an evolution, while it would be a qualitative change resulting from quantitative accumulation from the Book of Greed’s perspective.

Intuition told him that it was important.

Buzz—

The space trembled audibly. Ancient whispers emerged from the projected space and reached Death’s seal site, murmuring to all who would listen.

Here it came again.

Wayne narrowed his eyes slightly. He knew that it was a normal phenomenon that stemmed from the three chosen knights’ assault on the projected space’s cracks. The ancient god’s might was beyond question, and the ancient god’s vassal was equally terrifying. Even separated by a world, the whispers remained clearly audible, as if Thoggua were right beside them.

Most of the Darkness mages in the camp had left. The remaining dark elves were all powerhouses who could rival a hundred strong each, skilled in sealing magic and willing to sacrifice themselves to defend the Land of Seal.

Veronica and Silvia had also stayed. Their respective fiancé and husband were stationed at Death’s and Darkness’s parts of the Land of Seal; they had no reason to leave.

Veronica had entered the Gate of Truth and thus could resist the chaotic whispers to some degree, while Silvia was a Gold-ranked mage and could refuse to listen. At Wayne’s insistence, they had moved to the fringe of the camp, where they could leave through the teleportation circle at any time.

Individuals differed. Others found the whispers enthralling, compelling them to give their approval. Wayne, on the other hand, only found the whispers noisy. He did not agree with how Thoggua described life, and there were several times when he almost couldn’t resist snatching the microphone to debate with them.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t!

The three chosen knights were all present. If he grabbed the microphone now, he would certainly be considered a spy sent by the ancient god.

Meanwhile, in Darkness’s seal site.

The Darkness Knight pointed Twilight Despair at the ground, his black cloak billowing without wind. Behind him, the black dragon folded her wings and lowered her head, breathing out wisps of dark flames from her nostrils.

His impressive posturing made it seem self-evident that he was a bigshot.

Auston had suffered a lot these days, taking quite a beating for the sake of his wife and daughter. The results were gratifying. He had made a big leap. He figured that if Wayne dared to stir up trouble in front of him again, he would be able to punish him with a wave of his hand.

He could discipline him however he wanted, like a father would a son. He looked forward to it.

That would come later, though. If he failed to defend this land, none of that would come true.

Auston’s mission was the same as Wayne’s: to defend the rear and allow the chosen knights of Nature, Sun, and Moonlight to charge ahead without concerns. For this mission, the three knights were the vanguards, while Auston, Megan, Wayne, and Anastasia would defend the rear.

Originally, Wayne’s exclusive mount, Senna, and his backup mounts, Silvia and Veronica, would also be joining him. However, having the entire family ready to die in action would be too cruel, so Moula said no to that. Wayne was only supposed to put up a defense, not charge at the frontline. Anastasia’s support was enough.

Moula had given her another mission: while assisting Wayne, keep an eye on him to prevent the young man from getting hot-headed and throwing away his bright future.

At the moment, the three knights were conversing from a distance. Moula had broken through a crack in the projected space and called for his two teammates to hurry over. The green, golden, and white lights arrived at the edge of the crack. They nodded to each other before stepping forward.

Strictly speaking, the ancient god’s Vassal Realm wasn’t in the Frozen Land. It was only because of the spatial projection that the two spaces overlapped and came into contact.

To ordinary people, overlapping spaces were like two parallel lines that were never, ever going to intersect. The chosen knights and Thoggua, on the other hand, could see through space and even see the blurred figures of the other side with great enough power to twist the parallel lines.

The three knights stepped through the crack. This was no longer the Chosen Land, but a gap in the Void World—the Astral Plane. Behind them was the Chosen Land, and ahead of them was the projection of the ancient god’s Vassal Realm. They stopped and took a brief rest.

“White Shadow!”

Darienne, the Moonlight Knight, summoned a swift white creature with a wave.

It was five meters long with wings on its back and fine white scales covering its long body. It was an incredibly fast winged dragon, a type of wyvern with dragon blood in its veins. It wasn’t a standalone evolution branch, but a bloodline branch.

Dragon blood had many branches. Any great dragon would have countless descendants. They bred so constantly that even they themselves didn’t know how many branches existed in their realm.

The Death Knight had an exclusive mount—the undead warhorse the Goddess of Death had given him, with the power to create portals. The other four chosen knights, however, didn’t have exclusive mounts. They needed to find their own if they wanted one.

Darienne was an archer excelling in speed and agility. She could reliably output great ranged damage, making her the best mobile cannon among the five chosen knights. To utilize and amplify her advantage, she raised a wyvern for herself.

White Shadow lived up to its name with its incredible flying speed. It was the most suitable mount for Darienne.

Moula and Leo didn’t have mounts. The former preferred having his feet on solid ground, while the latter’s combat style had no use for mounts. He just walked everywhere.

“I’ll go first. You stay in the back, Moula. Darienne, clear the minions on the sides.”

Wielding his golden lance, Leo transformed into light particles and streaked straight toward the spatial fissure. Although he encountered several layers of spatial barriers along the way, he passed through them easily by splitting into particles before recombining.

When he reconstructed his body, the whispers in his ears instantly became cacophonous, but he paid them little mind. His eyes bloomed with golden light as an enormous fireball blazed behind him. The scorching fire distorted space and evaporated spatial turbulence, pointing the way forward.

Rip!

Deep within the dark projected space was an impenetrable, endless darkness. Hundreds of insidious, bloodshot red eyes opened up like space itself was torn open, scattered throughout the darkness like stars.

Whether they were angry because they were awakened abruptly or had been confined for too long, their eyes were terrifyingly ferocious. They brought light but also destruction, focusing on the three chosen knights with violent bloodlust.

“Thoggua...”

Leo’s expression tightened. He remembered that Thoggua’s head had been cut off and transferred elsewhere to be sealed, but now, Thoggua had grown a new head, and these were their eyes.

Whoosh!

The sound of arrows flying off the bowstring pierced through space as hundreds of white rays shot out like lightning. Their unstoppable momentum tore through all obstructing barriers and the endless darkness, leaving brilliant white trails. They hit the eyes precisely and then the core of the being, dispersing the incessant whispers.

Roar—

Black fog surged, and the insidious eyes trembled violently, spraying dark, viscous fluid. Deafening roars echoed throughout the entire projected space. Hundreds of demonic eyes closed. Then the darkness calmed again.

In the deathly silence, Thoggua’s blood divided and reproduced on its own, giving birth to macabre creations. It was similar to the monsters Wayne encountered in the Golden City, but larger, with greater vitality and psychic power. The monsters seemed able to divide infinitely. In only a few breaths, they grew from hundreds to thousands, finally becoming so numerous that they filled the space between heaven and earth.

Leo’s lips curled into a savage grin. He raised the sacred golden lance and hurled the small sun behind him. The light sphere hit the ground and contracted violently. After being stable for three seconds...

It expanded infinitely!

Boom!!!

Blinding yellow light erupted as if the sun had descended to earth. The entire world suddenly became scorching hot.

Immediately after, a deafening roar rumbled in all directions like countless thunderbolts crackling at the same time, shaking space itself. Visible shockwaves mercilessly tore through and engulfed everything in the area.

Under the apocalyptic destruction, the psychic barriers the monsters had erected crumbled like paper. They didn’t even have a chance to wail before the shockwaves instantly vaporized them.

The light sphere expanded and dissipated, consuming space to form a massive spherical void. The crackling thunder and roaring wind around the void could never fill it.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

At the depths of the darkness, tentacles the size of mountain ranges swirled out. Dozens of tentacle monsters with spiral-shaped shells emerged.

“I’m going first.”

Leo strode forward with his golden lance. Conjuring another small light sphere, he tossed it.

Behind the three chosen knights, the crack in the projected space trembled slightly. As if affected by the earlier impact, it suddenly showed signs of closing up...
