Myths Reawakened

The succubi’s charisma was undeniable. The term itself was a form of charm that could not be resisted.

Ottilia and Regina had perfect faces and bodies as Holy Maiden candidates. Choosing to evolve into succubi amplified their overall feminine charms, making their appearance and temperament even more attractive.

There wasn’t even a need to talk about their figures. Their pronounced busts and bottoms, their slim waists, and long, shapely legs combined to create their perfect curves. Their faces were incredibly stunning, their skin fair and smooth like jade. Both their lips were slightly curved, one pair an eerie crimson, and the other a seductive light purple.

From their lower backs, black fleshy wings that were moderate in size unfolded. Curved horns protruded from their foreheads, and their pupils were rectangular, like those of a goat. Their long, slim black tails wrapped around their slender thighs, covering yet accentuating their private parts.

Those were the only traits marking them as succubi on their bodies.

They didn’t have hooves or claws, and their forearms weren’t covered in black hair. They looked like two beautiful ladies with incredible bodies cosplaying as succubi.

Ottilia and Regina were surprised by the changes to their bodies, too. Wouldn’t death be preferable? But perhaps becoming succubi had lowered their standards; not only didn’t they feel embarrassed, they even found Wayne adorable for covering his eyes. They couldn’t help but want to tease him.

(/ꇴ˙\)

Wayne had covered his eyes because he respected them; he hadn’t covered his eyes fully because he respected them.

He had always been the respectful type.

The two women smirked, sauntering up to him from both sides while swaying their hips. Then...

Mona blocked them with her sacred spear, staring daggers at them in warning. If they dared to take one more step, she would tear off their wings and roast them for dinner.

“Master, look at her. She’s so angry and scary!”

“Just because she can’t have you, she forbids others from having you? That’s so hypocritical! Are all angels like her?”

Wayne and Mona fell silent at their coquettish words. Something had to have gone wrong.

He glanced at them and sent them a telepathic order to transform back into themselves. They were too tacky as succubi. Clearly, they had a serious misunderstanding of what succubi were.

Succubi weren’t ladies of the night, although they did sustain themselves on the same thing.

Once they were themselves again, Ottilia and Regina screamed at the same time, covering up their private parts and curling into themselves. Recalling their shameless behavior, they blushed furiously from embarrassment.

“Now you’re getting shy. Where did your courage go?” Wayne teased. When the two women stammered helplessly, he told Mona to bring the bedsheet from the secret room.

Not long after, Ottilia and Regina sat meekly on the sofa, using one bedsheet to cover themselves up, revealing only their heads.

Mona scoffed. Amateurs. They couldn’t even control their energy, and they dared to seduce her master?

“First things first, the evolution is a success, only you haven’t learned to control your new power, so you allowed it to control you. That’s why you acted like that... Honestly, you were quite lewd.”

Wayne roasted them. When they lowered their heads to accept the lecture, he said, “What’s wrong with you? There are many types of hellish faiths. Why did you both choose succubi?”

“...”

“Speak.”

“The other forms are hideous.”

It was such a convincing reason that Wayne couldn’t deny it. They were right. Among the vessels for the Seven Demon Lords, the Lord of Lust’s was the only one that seemed remotely human, while the vessels for the other demon lords couldn’t even be described as humanoid.

The large fly of the Lord of Gluttony, for example, would never be a viable choice for someone with the least bit of standards for their appearance.

“Fine, since you’ve chosen to become succubi, you should adapt to your new forms and master your energy rather than letting it loose and becoming controlled by it.”

Wayne told the two to practice more. They needn’t be shy about it. Just make the call when they needed him, and he would be there for them.

Moreover, being lewd was only one facet of being a succubus. True succubi were sometimes seductive, and other times aloof and graceful; they should also be able to act innocent as well as cute. In order to satisfy the needs of the overall market, they needed more than one strategy.

“I don’t expect you to be seductive. Just be yourself.” Wayne thought for a moment. “I’ll bring you two battle suits tomorrow so that you won’t be left naked next time. Different outfits work with different temperaments. That’ll enhance your appeal.”

The two women sighed. If they had known how inherently lewd succubi were, they would’ve... well, they would’ve still chosen to become succubi. At least they still looked somewhat human.

“Go back. Let’s call it a day. I’m heading home for some sleep, too.”

“Wait, Master.” Regina called out to Wayne. “I’ll head home tomorrow and return to Londan as soon as possible. Before that, would you tell us what we should do?”

“What do you mean?”

“Your mana sustains us just like an employer sustains their employees with a salary. We, as your employees, should work for you in return.”

What a nice exploitable sheep. You’ll be working twenty-four seven from now on!

“Just keep watch of the library.”

“I don’t want to be useless, Master,” Regina insisted. “I’d choose death over a meaningless life.”

Ottilia nodded. She shared the sentiment. Reading books was a hobby she took on outside of work. She was grateful to Wayne for his favorable treatment, so... give her work just like he gave Do and Bo work.

“To be honest, I haven’t figured out what to do with you.”

Wayne sat back down on the sofa. He didn’t long for political power and had few material desires. Outside of magic, few things could catch his attention.

Clout wasn’t something he wanted to pursue.

No matter what he did with the fourteen vengeful spirits, it would certainly attract attention. Over time, influence would become political power, and responsibilities would follow. Even the thought of it gave him a headache.

“Boss, have them patrol Londan at night,” Mona suggested. “The spirits can hide themselves in the thick mist. Since they are incorporeal, they are perfect for the job.”

She knew her master. That was why Bo was assigned the job he had been assigned. Rather than letting the vengeful spirits sit idle, it was better to let them join the patrols. They didn’t have better things to do anyway, and without a purpose, even vengeful spirits would be nothing but trash.

Besides, with so many women of different personalities gathered, something was bound to go wrong if they had nothing to do. Then, with an increasing fissure between them, it would be difficult to lead the group.

Wayne accepted the advice and assigned them to patrol the city. Remembering the mysterious man who had attacked the Lando Estate and the demons who coveted the Death Knight, he realized that he did need an intelligence network that covered all of Londan at night. He couldn’t always be reacting to his enemies; he wanted to find their base.

“That’s the mission. The twelve of them will be split into two groups to patrol Londan at night. The two of you are in charge of compiling the intel. I’ll check your results after some time.”

“As you command.” x2

Wayne silently watched Ottilia react like a dutiful vengeful spirit, feeling a pang in his chest. The bookish girl who had yearned for freedom still ended up losing freedom.

“Ottilia, can I take you to a movie tomorrow?”

“Um...”

Ottilia hesitated for a moment at the hand offered to her. Then she put her hand on his palm and nodded vehemently.

He was a good friend after all!

That night, Wayne stayed at Mona’s place. He had been so busy lately that he realized how indispensable his secretary was, just like Veryl, his butler.

There was a reason Auston was never seen without Megan.

Considering his relationship with Mona, Wayne was convinced that Auston and Megan had to be messing around, too. The old man just wouldn’t admit it.

Ministry of Magic’s base, Londan.

The remote area was blocked off by warning signs set up by the military research institute, stationed with a fully armed combat unit. No one in the combat unit knew what was happening in the research institute—not the captain, not the members. All they knew was that the combat unit was replaced every three years, and they had to go through strict screening before taking the post. The institute was clearly strategically important.

The empty clearing was covered in grass. Underneath was a well-connected magical bastion with a complex layout, sealed by layers upon layers of barriers to prevent anyone from getting a full look.

Invisible threads spread from the magical bastion to the rest of the city. Were the land flipped upside down, it would seem like the threads had enveloped all of Londan.

Inside the pitch-black study, a skinny man was resting with his eyes closed. Apart from the desk before him, the entire study was filled with shelves, storing tens of thousands of books on various faiths, including unknown faiths that had been eliminated from the Chosen Land long ago.

He was Alan Woodson.

There had been three Vice Ministers in the Ministry of Magic: Obed, Yvette, and Alan. Obed was dead, Yvette was a close confidant of the Queen, and Alan was more or less a hermit who rarely made an appearance at the ministry.

They shared one thing in common: all of them hailed from the Tulip Families.

Alan was entrusted with the important task of keeping an eye on the mist in Londan, keeping it from spreading and getting out of control, thus giving birth to magical creatures with chaotic thoughts and turning Londan into a wasteland.

It was a thankless job that took a lot of effort and was a great burden to bear, perfect for an honest, composed man of few words like Alan.

Of course, legendary mages were never simply honest, and Alan was naturally no honest man when he was a legendary mage who followed freedom. He was only relatively more responsible than his colleagues.

Moreover, he had taken on the thankless job, keeping watch of the mist without holding actual power, because the Queen had made an offer he could not turn down.

Suddenly, thick Darkness energy spread in the study, interrupting Alan’s rest. He frowned deeply. The newcomer emerged from the dark portal in a black robe that covered their entire body. Their presence was negligible, seemingly transparent yet strangely all-encompassing like the void.

Darkness!
