Myths Reawakened

Chapter 197 (2): Succubus

“Stay back. I’ll take care of her.”

Wayne strode forward, rolling up his sleeves for a punch.

You stay back. Look at your pervy face. You’re practically drooling!

With a huff, Veronica stepped up, ready to crush Marion’s chest. So she was a succubus, so what? Did succubi not have to wear clothes? Who was she shaking those two lumps of meat for?

Mona acted even faster, splaying her five fingers to conjure a barrier of holy light, slamming it against Marion. The great impact sent Marion flying, knocking down the shelves of wine barrels. Red liquid streaked down the alluring curves of her body. The rich smell made her even more mesmerizing.

Wayne sucked in a breath, shaking the intrusive thoughts out of his head. As expected of a succubus, she was born to enthrall and seduce. For a fleeting moment, he felt the urge to get up close and personal with her until they both had chafing.

“Mona, I want her alive.”

Mona huffed, glaring at Marion murderously with golden light in her eyes. Her master had always been merciless to demons. The fact that he wanted the succubus alive... She had to take her out ‘accidentally’!

After the initial panic, Marion had regained her composure. She unfolded her black wings, revealing her captivating curves.

Sensing Mona’s killing intent, she said darkly, “Sir Wayne, I was going to get close to you in this state so that you’ll help my family through this difficult time, but you never see mercy as an option, and even after accepting bribery, you tried to frame us. Don’t call me ruthless for killing you and your three lovers.”

While flapping her wings to lunge at Mona, she extended her five fingers, her black claws protruding from her fingertips. She decided to start with Mona to get rid of the unbearable holy light.

Veronica stepped forward, and Vera conjured a small golden sun by rubbing her hands together. Wayne put a hand on each of their shoulders. “You don’t have to do anything. I didn’t pick Mona as a secretary because of her looks.”

Meanwhile, Mona and Marion clashed. In an instant, the blazing sacred lance tore through the black curtain, piercing Marion’s chest and pinning her to the wall.

“That’s it?” Wayne snorted. Given Marion’s evil appearance and vicious manner of speech, he had thought that she would put up more of a fight, but she lost immediately. On the other hand, Mona’s power had grown significantly since forming a contract with him.

“Aghhhh—”

Marion screamed while holding onto the energy lance that had pierced through her chest. Due to her inherent weakness to holy light, grasping the lance felt like holding onto a branding iron. Her skin sizzled with black smoke.

She looked at Mona with terror. She had thought that the secretary had slept her way to her current post, that she wouldn’t be that strong even if she had magic. However, Marion couldn’t even withstand one attack from Mona.

Such pure holy light and intimidating energy! If you’re so strong, why don’t you work at a cathedral, but instead serve someone else as a secretary? And you’re not even the only one, but one of three. Do you not have ambition?

Mona clutched her energy lance. She was a little shocked by how easy it was to defeat the demon. Based on Marion’s appearance, she had to be more than a simple follower of hell—someone who had been directly blessed by the Lord of Lust. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have so easily transformed into a succubus, and her transformation wouldn’t have been so complete.

Mona’s attack had been a test, and she had prepared to follow it up with a combo. However, her opponent was such a novice that the tentative attack became a decisive move.

That put Mona in a difficult position. She had planned to accidentally kill the succubus during the fight to prevent her from approaching Master, but if she did it now and angered Master... Wouldn’t that be better? She should go for it.

“Mona.”

Wayne’s voice made Mona shudder. She obediently stepped aside, waiting for him to take care of the succubus.

Veronica and Vera cocked their heads. To their knowledge, Mona was an employee at the detective agency, and she only became Wayne’s trusted secretary because of her busty figure, long legs, and silver tongue.

Now, though, it was clear that her relationship with Wayne wasn’t one of an employee and an employer. Vera tried hard to figure out their relationship while gnawing on fingers.

“Why are you biting my hand?” Veronica extracted her fingers and knocked Vera on the head with a hand chop.

“Ow!”

Ignoring Vera and her usual clown behavior, Veronica quietly went up to Mona from behind, speaking like the proper mistress of the family. “What are you doing? Why did you let the demon leave alive instead of killing her?”

“Apologies.” Mona lowered her head, regretting the mistake more than anyone.

Meanwhile, Wayne had unceremoniously grabbed the energy lance and yanked it out. Once Marion collapsed to the ground, he transformed the holy light into four swords to pin her hands and feet.

Marion screamed, increasing the humidity in the air. The mix of her sweet, alluring fragrance and the smell of wine spread, prompting Veronica, Mona, and Vera to cover their noses. Their hearts raced and their faces flushed. They had to calm their minds with their thoughts to suppress their rousing desires.

Succubi’s power worked on anyone and everyone, be it male or female, human or inhuman. All creatures would be influenced, skeletons included.

Having been ready for it, Wayne denied the temptation a second time, feeling increasingly suspicious as he watched the injury on Marion’s back slowly heal. Her power level didn’t match her appearance and repertoire of abilities. This was beyond the Snow family’s capability; Obed had to have been involved.

The old man had long been colluding with hell, it seemed. Perhaps there was a disagreement about prices, so he ended up seeking the Thousand-Eyed Demon out.

“Sir Wayne, the Snow family is willing to serve you. All of the family’s assets, including me, will be yours...”

Marion slowly looked up, her damp red hair sticking to her fair face and neck. Her sweat mixed with the wine and filled the air with an appealing fragrance. Pair that with her enthralling yet soft and pitiful face, and one would get the perfect formula to arouse a man’s urge to break her.

Wayne frowned. With his guard up, a succubus’s temptation wasn’t much of a challenge to him.

“Sounds nice, but no.” He huffed. “You’re so open with your seduction. Do you really take me as a simple pervert? Look at the three pretty women behind me. Which of them is any less than you? Even pushing their appearances aside, the deep bonds I’ve formed with them alone disqualify an outsider like you.”

The three women fell silent.

Yay, Mona thought happily.

Isn’t three too many? Vera questioned.

I miss Senior Kristen, Veronica thought.

“Then why keep me alive?” Marion asked. She was convinced that Wayne had fallen for her charm. A succubus was the manifestation of evil and insidious appeal under their inhuman appearance. Every part of their body could arouse one’s most primitive desires. Even the most devout pastor—such as those standing on the bar street—would shudder at the sight of her.

“Feeding you some mushrooms, of course!” Wayne said like it was obvious.

Marion smiled. As she had thought, the man already—

“Hmph—”

Green mist spread from Wayne’s fingertips. He shoved a handful of mushrooms into Marion’s mouth without hesitation. His observation told him that while she was weak, she was immune to regular illusion-inducing mushrooms.

“The mushrooms are outdated. I have to rely on myself...”

He held onto Marion’s head, his body writhing slightly. Using himself as a source of corruption, he put her thoughts into a state of confusion and stupor. It was a tried and true brainwashing technique, with which he had turned the High Reverend of the Church of Moonlight back into a human. It was much more effective than a succubus’s psychic temptation.

“Huh, is that why that woman is so susceptible to me?” Wayne grumbled. He demanded an answer from Marion by clashing with her thoughts. “What deal does the Snow family have with the Lord of Lust, and what role did Obed play in the process?”

“Sir Obed has been looking for demons...”

Marion’s eyes were blank. The succubus was being ‘seduced’ instead, and she admitted everything she knew.

“It was during a night ten years ago. Under Father’s implicit permission, Sir Obed opened the gates of hell, summoning the Lord of Lust’s divine power to turn me into her familiar...”

“The Snow family gained the power of hell—not just the Lord of Lust’s...”

“The divine powers of all Seven Demon Lords have ascended!”
