Chapter 183: Chapter 183 Tears of the Goddess

”Ladies and gentlemen, the most precious jewel of our auction tonight is about to take the stage. I hope everyone can contain their surprise.”

Mo Shumei’s lips revealed a faint smile, and then a hostess brought an item onto the stage, covered with a red cloth so that no one could see what it was.

However, as Mo Shumei lifted her hand to unveil the red cloth, a dazzling brilliance flickered, blinding the eyes of the audience.

For a moment, everyone stared dumbfounded at the piece of jewelry on the stage.

It resembled a teardrop, crystal clear and sparkling with dazzling white light, exuding an air of nobility.

”Could this be the Tears of the Goddess!”

Suddenly, a renowned jewelry expert, looking at the jewel before him, exclaimed excitedly.

As the jewelry expert spoke, several others at the venue seemed to have realized something, their expressions filled with astonishment.

In the world of jewelry, there are two unique and priceless jewels, known as the most honorable existences in the jewelry world: the Ocean’s Star and the Tears of the Goddess.

Legend has it that the Ocean’s Star transformed over thousands of years from a star falling into the ocean.

And the Tears of the Goddess is said to be a tear shed by a goddess in heaven because she missed her husband, hence its name.

Both jewels are unparalleled and priceless treasures.

This item before us, resembling a teardrop, could very well be the Tears of the Goddess. Still, many can hardly believe it, as such rarities are usually found at international jewelry auctions. How could it possibly appear here?

”Ladies and gentlemen, some of you may have realized what this is. Yes, it is the most revered existence in the jewelry world—the Tears of the Goddess.”

When Mo Shumei confirmed this herself, the whole venue erupted into excitement, astonished that this was indeed the Tears of the Goddess.

”Miss Mo, is this truly one of the most honored jewels in the jewelry world, the Tears of the Goddess? How did it come to be here?”

A reputable jewelry collector couldn’t help but ask, though his tone was somewhat skeptical.

Facing the skepticism, Mo Shumei showed no displeasure but answered with a smile:

”I believe everyone harbors such doubts, and that’s quite normal. However, what I must tell you is that this indeed is the one and only Tears of the Goddess.”

”As for how the Mo’s acquired it, that’s business confidential, which I’m afraid I cannot share. But I can assure you that the Mo’s would never engage in any deception; otherwise, we would be ruining our own reputation.”

”Now, let’s officially start the auction for the Tears of the Goddess, with a starting bid of one hundred million, and each increment must be no less than ten million.”

As soon as Mo Shumei finished speaking, the entire audience was startled; they had not anticipated the starting bid for the Tears of the Goddess to be one hundred million. But considering its status in the jewelry world, even a hundred million seemed reasonable.

”One hundred and twenty million!”

Then, Du Wenxing immediately made a bid, but quickly after, the previously skeptical jewelry collector announced a bid of one hundred and thirty million.

”Wanting, I will win the Tears of the Goddess for you,” he murmured.

Du Wenxing looked at Qin Wanting sitting beside him and said with conviction.

”No need!” Qin Wanting said indifferently.

”One hundred fifty million!” Du Wenxing called out again.

Soon, the price soared to two hundred million, and Du Wenxing kept raising the bid, seemingly determined to spend a fortune to win Qin Wanting’s favor.

”Three hundred million!”

Suddenly, a voice rang out, adding a hundred million in one go, shocking everyone present.

Instantly, all eyes turned to the source of the voice, which turned out to be Young Master Yang Hao of the Yang Corporation.

Seeing Yang Hao’s bid, Du Wenxing’s complexion changed; although the Du Family’s wealth was substantial, competing with the financial power of the Yang Corporation was simply impossible.

”Young Master Yang, I want to win the Tears of the Goddess for the person I adore; I hope you can do me this favor and let it pass.” Du Wenxing said to Yang Hao, clearly trying to get him to back off.

Yang Hao, however, showed a hint of regret as he replied, ”I’m sorry, Young Master Du; I too want to win the Tears of the Goddess for my beloved. Please understand.”

”Oh, and the beloved that Young Master Yang speaks of is...” Du Wenxing’s eyes flashed with a look of puzzlement.

A smile appeared on Yang Hao’s lips, and as he gazed at Ye Yaxin, he said affectionately, ”The person I love most in my heart is naturally Miss Ye!”

As Yang Hao’s words fell, the crowd once again erupted into a frenzy. Everyone here was part of Tianhai’s high society, and they also knew that Miss Ye of the Ye Family was already engaged.

Moreover, that person seemed to be sitting right next to Ye Yaxin. Now that Yang Hao was so publicly declaring his love, wanting to win the Tears of the Goddess for her, it was a clear provocation against Ye Yaxin’s fiancé.

And Du Wenxing, glancing at Ye Yaxin and Xiao Yifeng sitting beside her, revealed a cold smile and said:

”If Young Master Yang says so, then I won’t stand in the way of your romantic pursuit. You are willing to pay a high price to obtain the Tears of the Goddess, a symbol of love, for Miss Ye; it seems you are truly devoted. I’m sure Miss Ye will be touched. I wish Young Master Yang an early success in winning the lady’s heart.”

After Du Wenxing finished speaking, he sat down, and his words further stirred up the atmosphere at the scene.

For a moment, all eyes were on Xiao Yifeng, beside Ye Yaxin, wanting to see what the so-called fiancé of Miss Ye would do – after all, if there were no response in such a situation, it would be a great embarrassment.

Mo Shumei on stage also looked at Xiao Yifeng with a smile playing on her lips.

Ye Yaxin frowned slightly, then promptly said, ”I appreciate the gesture, Young Master Yang, but I already have a fiancé. Please don’t act impulsively because of this.”

”Miss Ye, I’m not being impulsive. It’s true you have a fiancé, but you are not yet married; I believe I still have a chance.”

”The Tears of the Goddess symbolize love. Today I shall win it and offer it to Miss Ye, to show my love for you. Of course, if Mr. Xiao has any objections, he is welcome to bid as well.”

”Winning the Tears of the Goddess for one’s fiancée is a beautiful thing, I believe, but I wonder if Mr. Xiao has enough funds to win this expensive symbol of love.”

”Oh, my mistake, I forgot that the Ye Corporation is rich too. If Mr. Xiao doesn’t have the money, you could always ask Miss Ye for it. After all, in today’s society, being a kept man is quite a promising career.”
