I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 268: Chapter 126: Sparrow Cat Fossil, Spirit Platform Dao Foundation (5k)_2

Wen Yan didn’t seek out Old Meng this time; his goal was simply to retrieve the corpse of the Sparrow Cat ancestor. He didn’t need to look at anything else.

Upon arriving at the warehouse entrance, Wen Yan greeted the people there and saw a familiar-looking young man, likely the one who had previously asked him for Minister Cai’s diabolical recording.

Wen Yan figured he had already offended Minister Cai over this matter, so there was no need to let others take the blame. Therefore, he had personally spread all subsequent versions of the diabolical recordings.

This move, of course, earned him some goodwill from the younger crowd.

After greeting them at the entrance of the warehouse, Wen Yan quietly pulled the young man aside.

”Bro, I want to ask you something. You guys guard and monitor this place every day. The Sparrow Cat ancestor’s corpse—I mean, that demon with a cat’s head and a bird’s body—is it in this warehouse? I heard it was at the Virtue City Funeral House before, but according to procedure, it should have been moved to the large warehouse in Yu State by now, right?”

The young man thought for a moment and shook his head, indicating he didn’t know, but then said, ”Wait here, I’ll ask someone.”

The young man went to find some of the older staff at the warehouse. After asking a few people, someone had an impression of a ”demon with a cat’s head and a bird’s body,” possibly shipped from the Virtue City Funeral House. Using these two keywords and after a brief search, the young man found its approximate location.

The young man returned and spoke to Wen Yan in a low voice, ”It should be in Zone G, third row. You’ll recognize it at a glance; it’s the only thing that fits your description. We don’t have access to exact information here. If you ever come back and know what you want in advance, we can help you locate it to save time. You probably don’t have enough time to search on your own.”

”Great, thanks a lot!”

”Don’t mention it.”

Last time, Wen Yan hadn’t had a specific target in mind, so he had chosen at random.

He entered the warehouse and followed the directions to Zone G. After scanning the area briefly, he spotted his target.

A label on a wooden crate read ’Cat-Headed Bird Demon Fossil.’

He looked around, moved to the two rows behind, and confirmed his viewpoint. This should be the place where he had previously found an opening through the shelves.

Standing at this viewpoint, two rows ahead, was indeed that wooden crate.

After confirming there were no warnings on the label prohibiting opening it, he lifted the crate lid. Inside, he saw something that resembled both a desiccated corpse, as if buried in the desert, and a stone sculpture.

From the size of the skeleton, it was more than twice the height of a Sparrow Cat. It was standing in place, its wings covering its face, one ear held in an ’airplane’ position (flattened sideways), while the other was half-raised.

Even without seeing its face, he knew it was cast from the same mold as the Sparrow Cat.

After confirming the appearance of its claws, Wen Yan closed the lid and left with the crate.

It was better to get this thing the Sparrow Cat was obsessed with first, to stop the creature from constantly nattering on about it.

...

In Xing State, neighboring Wei State, the weather was pleasant. Jia Jinfeng was pushing a baby stroller—which Wu Tingsheng claimed was a hand-me-down from Xiao Wu’s infancy—and had taken the little one out to get some sun.

While scrolling through videos yesterday, she saw an expert saying that children need a little sun exposure, as it helps with calcium absorption.

She didn’t quite understand all this. However, according to custom, it was indeed good for children past their first month to get a little sun in this kind of mild, sunny weather—neither too hot nor too cold.

She pushed the little one along the park path near their home. The child tirelessly waved its arms. Between its hands, a clump of glow invisible to others was being squished and molded like cloud-like cotton candy into various shapes. The tiny tot was clearly enjoying the game and hadn’t tired of it yet.

Not far away, a crowd had gathered. Jia Jinfeng could vaguely see a Taoist priest in a yellow robe sitting on a stone bench, giving palm readings.

As Jia Jinfeng drew closer, she glanced at the Taoist priest. He had a goatee and wore glasses, and was seriously examining a middle-aged woman’s palm.

”Taoist priest, how is my palm reading?” The middle-aged woman getting her palm read was visibly nervous.

”You seem to have some irregular eating habits, or perhaps a lack of trace elements, and a bit of calcium deficiency as well.”

”Ah???”

”You don’t look like someone with irregular eating habits. Could it be that you’re afraid of ’getting inflamed,’ avoiding certain foods, and then frequently suffering from canker sores?”

”Ah...”

”See, this suggests that you’re lacking in certain trace elements. You need a balanced diet. Look, your nails are starting to show ridges. You should drink some milk every day to supplement your calcium.”

The Taoist priest maintained a serious demeanor throughout the palm reading, leaving the bystanders dumbfounded. This was their first time encountering a Taoist priest whose palm reading advice was completely understandable without needing any interpretation.

Jia Jinfeng, who had been watching from the sidelines, couldn’t hold back and let out a laugh.

The Taoist priest, catching a glimpse from the corner of his eye, twitched his eyelid and watched as Jia Jinfeng pushed the stroller away. Had he just sensed something?

He looked around, but everything seemed normal.

The Taoist priest wanted to leave, but the surrounding spectators suddenly grew enthusiastic.

If he talks about mysterious stuff, these onlookers are just here for the show. But he can actually diagnose illnesses! And didn’t he just mention ’getting inflamed’? Then he should take a look at me too! If I don’t get a free consultation out of this, I’ll definitely feel ’inflamed’ when I get home today!

The Taoist priest was surrounded and hindered for a while, so he couldn’t read palms individually anymore. He gave some general advice: ”Eat fewer inflammatory foods, consume more fruits and vegetables, supplement with protein, and don’t just have rice or porridge for every meal.”

After finally shaking off the crowd, the Taoist priest ascended the mountain with agile steps. Upon reaching the summit, he took out two Magic Artifacts from his cloth bag. He began to chant a Curse Scripture and touched each eye to activate his Heavenly Eye.
