Chapter 14: Chapter 2: The Blind-Eyed but Clear-Hearted Young Marquis

A group of young men planned to camp here, and the guards who had been following Xiao Anning closely from not far away also got off and began preparing to set up camp when they saw the young Marquis setting up camp here.

Tan Weizhi caught sight of the guards who had been following closely from the corner of his eye, and a flash of anger crossed his eyes. These people watched their master without blinking an eye, how could he take action?

With this in mind, he withdrew his gaze and looked coldly at Xiao Anning, who was acting like an ordinary person, his feelings of resentment and anger growing stronger.

No matter how normal he acts, he’s still blind! Isn’t he just relying on a good family background? Poor cousin’s beautiful life is about to be ruined in the hands of someone like this!

No! He would never allow such a thing to happen.

His cousin, such a wonderful woman, deserves better.

Although Xiao Anning acted normally, he had the highest status here, and coupled with his eye condition, naturally, no one would really let him pitch the tent himself. Soon, the tent was set up, and the wood for the bonfire was also piled up.

”Let’s go hunt some animals not far ahead. Young Marquis, I’ve heard you can identify positions just by hearing, hunting wouldn’t be difficult for you. How about we go together? You could hunt a rabbit or something for your cousin and bring it back to the city for her. I’m sure she’d be very happy to know,” Tan Weizhi suggested to Xiao Anning.

”Right, I’d also like to see the young Marquis’s skill in identifying positions by sound,” another round-faced young man chimed in with anticipation.

”I think if the young Marquis takes action, not just a rabbit, even a deer wouldn’t be a problem,” another young man quickly agreed.

Tan Weizhi lowered his gaze, hiding the violence and disdain in his eyes. A bunch of sycophants. The people he brought today were all those who were on good terms with him. His father was only a low-ranking sixth-grade official. It was because his aunt married into the Prime Minister’s family that his family gained some status. The people on good terms with him either had families with even lower official positions or were sons of merchants.

These people usually didn’t have the chance to interact with someone of the young Marquis’s status. Being able to play together today, they naturally spared no effort in flattering and getting close, hoping to show their face in front of the young Marquis and make a good connection.

Xiao Anning smiled faintly, nodded, and said in a good-natured way, ”Then let’s go hunt some small wild animals for barbecue, it will be an interesting experience.”

With Xiao Anning’s words, everyone’s spirits were high as they took up bows and arrows and headed to the dense forest not far ahead. The guards nearby also got ready to follow.

But Tan Weizhi stopped, frowned, and said to Xiao Anning, ”Young Marquis, since we’re hunting in a group, there’s no need for these guards to follow us, right? It’s not far, and we’re all eager to see your skill in identifying positions by sound. If these people follow, there’ll be too many, and the game will all be scared away.”

The guards not far away heard these words. Although there was no expression on their faces, they thought that Tan Weizhi really thought too highly of himself. Only the young Marquis’s good nature kept him from bothering with him. They, the guards, not only were well-trained in protecting the young Marquis but were also skilled in martial arts. It was these spoiled young men who would scare the game away.

Xiao Anning waved his hand and said, ”In that case, you wait here. We won’t go far.”

The guards respectfully agreed and retreated.

Xiao Anning and the others headed into the forest together. There weren’t any fierce beasts on the edge of this dense forest, just some small animals, so the guards were reassured after thinking it over.
