Reborn and Counterattack: The CEO's Powerful Sweetheart

Chapter 397: 397: Gu Tong sister develops research

Research Institute Office.

In front of the mahogany desk, Li Yan leaned back in his chair, his eyelids drooping as he looked at the small black gadget in his hand—

”How do you use this thing?”

Huang Shou stood nervously by his side, swallowing hard, and said, ”It’s used just like a phone...”

In 1991, communication tools were scarce. Pagers had already become popular, but mobile phones were not yet widespread, and not every household could use them. However, the earliest mobile phones, known colloquially as ”big bricks,” had emerged, looking somewhat clumsy and heavy, without any portability. Yet, this phone in front of Li Yan was small and exquisite, something he was seeing for the first time.

”So small!”

Li Yan, after all, had seen a lot. When doing missions, for convenience in communication, they also carried communication devices.

”Yes... This was developed and researched by Gu Tong...”

Huang Shou began to explain, ”Don’t be fooled by its size, it actually packs quite a punch. It can connect to a signal source and receive signals through several small stations... Gu Tong said... you can use it to communicate...”

The device in Li Yan’s hand was the prototype of the later-developed mobile phone, a very small mini version, specially suitable for concealment and more convenient for carrying out missions.

After Gu Tong arrived at the research institute, she came up with this idea.

If lasers could be created and modified in advance, then surely phones could too!

However, there were several troublesome aspects in the manufacture of the phone, most notably the issue of the signal source.

Fortunately, Gu Tong had several signal source stations, and she could use the signal source of the old mobile phones to complete the communication. The only sticky issue was the mini chip of the phone, for which Gu Tong spent considerable time and effort before completing the design of the schematics.

”It can allow me to contact her!”

Li Yan fiddled with the mini phone in his hand, handling it very gently, fearing he might accidentally break it.

”It should be able to...”

Huang Shou’s answer was ambiguous. These days, he had been diligently studying the chip according to the schematics left by Gu Tong, which were detailed and comprehensive.

He devoted himself to the schematics, researching arduously, even wanting to give up a few times. But whenever he remembered it was a task Gu Tong entrusted to him, his spirits lifted. He went without food and sleep for days and nights and finally succeeded! Needless to say, he was overjoyed.

However... it’s an awkward time since Gu Tong has already gone to execute the mission and hasn’t had the chance to try it out yet...

The mission had already started, and with Gu Tong not around, there was no way to adjust it!

Yet, at this very moment, they were about to ”test” the signal of the mini phone...

And the phone was in the hands of the Devil King...

Huang Shou felt completely unsettled...

His heart was filled with worry and anxiety. He hadn’t forgotten the terrifying expression on the Devil King’s face when he first came in...

At that time, Li Yan had a grim face, his eyelids lowered, and his index finger rhythmically tapped the tabletop, exuding a cold aura, as if turning water into ice!

It gave off a strong suffocating feeling!

It’s said that this was caused by a war meeting at the Academy.

This time, Madam’s participation in the mission was sudden. They had a strict confidentiality protocol, and not even the Earl was informed.

Not until everything was set in stone did they inform him symbolically. Such a situation was absolutely intolerable for the Earl...

Huang Shou hadn’t forgotten the moment when a certain deputy followed the Earl, coming in eagerly, only to be watched by him with an expression as if looking at a fool, and within his heart, he broke out in cold sweat for him...

Now, the Earl was visibly in a bad mood, and he actually stormed in...

It was akin to crashing headlong into a weapon...

At that time, Huang Shou didn’t understand it, but upon seeing the Earl’s expression, he finally understood completely...

He truly felt like crying but had no tears...
