Chapter 624: Chapter 302: Infiltrating the Inner Circle

”This time, our most important goal in going to the Orange Free State is to observe, learn, and think more, especially in analyzing the tactics of the Orange and Transvaal people. Currently, the domestic politics of East Africa are stable, with no wars to fight, and former military cadets entering the army could hone themselves through small-scale warfare.”

These years, compared to before, East Africa has indeed been at peace. Previously, although there were no major wars, there were many small battles, and correspondingly, opportunities for actual combat have greatly decreased.

This is also the reason why East Africa sent people to the Orange Free State this time to study, of course, there’s also an intention to observe and learn the tactics of the Orange and Transvaal people.

This way, if East Africa enters the Orange Free State next time, they can know both themselves and their enemy and be invincible in every battle.

Colonel William continued, ”Of course, study and practice are one aspect, but the most important thing is to first ensure our own safety. Make good use of the identity of a third country, only do what an advisor should do, do not overstep, and if you encounter uncontrollable danger, surrendering is nothing to be ashamed of. However, you must not reveal your East African nationality. Remember, from now on, you are all from the Austro-Hungarian Empire.”

If the others knew that these officers were East Africans, it’s feared the Transvaal people might act irrationally. On the other hand, adopting the identity of another country would be much better.

Colonel William saw that he had said enough, so he said, ”Depart!”

After a few days, the military advisory group reached the largest military fortress on the South African border, Warm Castle. This place is an important transportation hub between the Orange Free State and East Africa. Previously, the Transvaal people had built many roads passing through here.

”The scale of Warm Castle should be similar to some cities, but after all, it is on the border, so it has more military attributes. This is rarely seen in East African cities; other cities are either far from the border or do not reach the scale of Warm Castle, or their military function outweighs their economic value.”

”Although the military value of Warm Castle is greater than its economic value to East Africa, its economic value cannot be ignored. Since it is in a region with developed transportation, it is a key point of communication between various places in South Africa and is economically stronger than some of East Africa’s inland cities.”

”You young people spend liberally, but if there’s anything you need, Warm Castle is easy to solve. Most products can be found here. It can be considered a distribution center for East African foreign goods. However, in the past, the Orange and Transvaal people, and even the British, conducted activities secretly. Now with war breaking out, they are much more open.”

The military officer of Warm Castle, who is also the highest commander of the Fite River defense line, Marunas, introduced himself to members of the East African delegation to the Orange military advisory group.

”In the future, if you encounter any difficulties, be sure to contact us immediately. The military strength of Warm Castle is very strong, and no one can ignore our presence, so don’t be shy about seeking assistance when necessary.”

”General Marunas, what should we pay attention to when we head to the Orange Free State? You have long been on the Southern front line and should be very familiar with the Orange Free State, so I hope you can give us some pointers,” Colonel William asked.

General Marunas kindly said to William, ”When you go to the Orange Free State, the main thing is not to cross the line, especially not to interact with the Transvaal military ruffians, even using a disguised identity is not feasible. They are a group of bandits, utterly unreasonable.”

”Do not take them lightly; even professional intelligence personnel might fall into their hands, as they are totally unreasonable and kill the innocent to claim merits. Although the likelihood of you encountering such an event is small, it’s still better to be cautious. This is our intelligence personnel’s personal experience.”

”Regarding the Orange people, do not let your guard down. Although we are partners, the Orange people may not have goodwill towards East Africa, especially since some of them were originally Transvaal people. Don’t leave your back to them; you might not even know if you become a scapegoat.”

”Also, be sure to remember not to reveal your East African identity. I heard you all graduated from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, so disguising as Austro-Hungarian personnel is very fitting.”

”General Marunas, rest assured! We have stayed in the Austro-Hungarian Empire for several years, genuine Austro-Hungarian people might not even tell us apart.”

Marunas chuckled and said, ”There are quite a few original Austro-Hungarian people in East Africa, and the differences between Austria and other German regions aren’t too great.”

This is precisely why Germanic (including East African) merchants are very flexible in the world, being able to switch between several nationalities without worry of exposure.

Subsequently, Marunas began to introduce the guide for their trip to the Orange Free State.

”This is Mr. Marshall from the Orange Free State. He currently serves as a military officer in northern Orange at Fujide Fulei, and this time he will be leading you to execute the mission at Fujide Fulei.”

Everyone looked strangely at General Marunas and Mr. Marshall; was it really okay to openly plot in front of an Orange person?

Seemingly perceiving their apprehensions, General Marunas continued, ”Do not misunderstand; this trip to the Orange Free State is mainly to assume advisory duties, so you only need to work diligently. Furthermore, we’ve explained to the Orange people that due to the weapon equipment originating from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, they would be hiring Austro-Hungarian military personnel as advisors, which is the excuse for your trip to the Orange Free State.”

After speaking, Marunas looked at Marshall, who understood and said, ”Once you arrive in Orange, I am the highest commander. I will allocate your tasks and send you to various factions of the Orange people. All intelligence or information can be delivered to the only Chinese restaurant on the town street of Fujide Fulei. Hand the letters to the service staff; I’ll explain the details clearly to you on the way.”

If other troubles occur, such as being captured or injured, contact me directly. I will generally be stationed in Fujide Fulei town.”

General Marunas supplemented, ”Mr. Marshall is an operative from the East African National Security Bureau, so you can trust him entirely; he is absolutely one of us. The East African National Security Bureau is part of the covert operations, so it’s normal if you haven’t heard of it. Therefore, I can give you the inside story. Secondly, our most active personnel in the Orange Free State are those from the National Security Bureau, holding an intelligence network covering the entire Orange Free State. Therefore, during your mission execution in the Orange Free State, you can seek help from Mr. Marshall.”

Marshall is indeed a talent. Other East African operatives infiltrating the Orange Free State mostly use identities like merchants or immigrants.

Someone like Marshall, who gets into the high ranks of the Orange people, is a rarity. Of course, now the Orange people are too scattered, so anyone of importance can be considered part of the upper echelons, with ranks like Commander and General being produced in bulk. Anywhere with guns can crown themselves as rulers.

The town of Fujide Fulei, where Marshall is located, is a crucial military town in the northern Orange region, so Marshall holds a high status among the Orange people. However, Marshall’s true identity is East African, which probably the people in Fujide Fulei town would never guess.
