A demigod who had advanced decades ago?

That level of seniority was frankly absurd!

That was Fu Qian’s first reaction to Veil’s description.

According to what he had gathered so far, in this world, anyone who broke through to Tier 4 to become a high-tier transcendent could be called a demigod.

But there were levels even among demigods. At the very least, they were divided into first, second, and third tiers, and the gap between them was larger than one might imagine.

So the true strength of a demigod who had advanced decades ago left plenty to the imagination.

The more he heard, the more dangerous it sounded. Such a powerful figure had died right here, yet up to this point, the situation had remained completely silent. The man hadn’t caused even the slightest ripple.

”If you’re trying to find Helom, I’m afraid it will be quite difficult,”

Veil said carefully, watching Fu Qian’s expression.

”Helom is essentially a lone wolf. He doesn’t belong to any conglomerate or organization, nor is he loyal to the Federation. Confirming his whereabouts is difficult.””I’ve even heard that because of some of his actions, the Night Watchers started keeping an eye on him years ago. But his methods are secretive and his movements hard to predict, so he remains active all over to this day.”

This was sounding trickier by the second.

Even the Night Watchers were keeping an eye on him?

Fu Qian’s first thought went straight to the Yama Enforcer Squad where Su Gao worked.

Judging by Veil’s description, the man had to be incredibly cautious.

A victim who was powerful, cunning, ruthless, and highly elusive.

From Veil’s description, he could infer that the news of Helom’s death remained unknown, meaning his demise must have happened very recently.

”Understood. Thank you for the warning.”

Fu Qian politely thanked her for the well-intentioned reminder.

At the same time, however, he noticed that Veil’s face had gone slightly pale.

Did she think he was going to take Helom out?

Fu Qian quickly guessed the reason.

In truth, he couldn’t blame her for thinking that.

After all, from her perspective, he had just crushed the King of the White Tower underfoot right in front of a demigod not long ago.

When someone like him asked about a specific person, guessing whether that person was his next target was a perfectly normal reaction.

”By the way, have you finalized your vacation plans?”

Likely realizing her expression was off, Veil forced a smile and tried to change the subject.

”How can it be a vacation if you make plans?”

Fu Qian gave her a strange look.

”I always just wander around randomly on vacation. Oh, right—”

Fu Qian looked as if he had suddenly remembered something.

”You said your sister hid out here. Where is she now?”

”She’s been at the hospital. Her injuries haven’t fully healed yet,”

Veil answered subconsciously, then jolted in sudden alarm.

Wait a minute!

Did he just say he was going to wander around randomly, and then immediately ask for Lotte’s location?

For a moment, Veil’s scalp went numb. She subconsciously told herself she was overthinking things.

”In the hospital?”

Fu Qian nodded thoughtfully.

”Since I’m already here, shouldn’t I pay her a visit? We’re acquaintances, after all.”

”N—no need!”

Veil blurted out almost instantly, instinctively rejecting Fu Qian’s gesture.

Hmm?

Fu Qian looked up at her.

”Is it inconvenient?”

”No... I didn’t mean it like that!”

Under Fu Qian’s gaze, Veil lost her composure for a moment and frantically tried to explain.

But no matter what, there was no way she was going to let him actually visit her sister.

Veil still remembered the sheer terror on Lotte’s face when the girl had mentioned his name.

Her younger sister had always been fiercely competitive. Veil had never seen her look like that before.

If Fu Qian suddenly showed up at her door right now, Veil couldn’t even imagine how Lotte would react.

Veil took a deep breath to calm herself.

”It’s mostly because Lotte can be a bit immature. She’s become quite averse to transcendent powers since the last incident. I’m worried that if she sees you, she might run off and report you just like I guessed earlier, which would interfere with your plans.”

She deliberately omitted the word ”vacation.”

Fu Qian immediately understood the subtext.

It was obvious from this exchange that she absolutely did not believe he was here on vacation.

She was tactfully hinting that drawing the Night Watchers’ attention might jeopardize his true objectives.

”From what you’re saying, did you stay hidden so she wouldn’t notice you when you went to visit her?”

Fu Qian thought for a moment before asking.

”Yes, I didn’t dare let her know I was here.”

”I see...”

Under Veil’s nervous gaze, Fu Qian stroked his chin.

”In that case, you should come with me.”

What?!

While he was deep in thought, Veil had assumed he was finally changing his mind.

Yet, just as she had breathed a sigh of relief, the second half of his sentence caused her brain to short-circuit entirely.

”Don’t worry. I’ll have a nice chat with her. I’m very persuasive; she won’t report us.”

Heh...

Veil’s expression turned completely stiff. She was obviously already regretting her decision to invite Fu Qian to her home.

”Maybe we should save this for tomorrow...”

...

The next morning.

When Fu Qian got up, he found Veil sitting at the dining table in a daze, sporting dark bags under her eyes that even heavy makeup couldn’t conceal.

He wasn’t surprised in the slightest.

Last night, Fu Qian had clearly heard her tossing and turning upstairs, entirely unable to sleep.

There had even been a moment when she seemed to get up and pack her things, though he wasn’t sure if she had actually intended to run away.

However, she had ultimately given up on the idea.

A hearty breakfast had been set out on the table, but judging by Veil’s plate, she hadn’t taken a single bite.

”You’re awake?”

Seeing Fu Qian, she managed a forced smile.

”Yes. You can’t sleep in when you’re on vacation.”

Fu Qian sat down across from her, noticing that the maid had even prepared an extra set of cutlery for him.

”After breakfast... should we head out?”

Surprisingly, Veil took a deep breath and took the initiative to ask.

After a whole night of contemplating, she had clearly sorted out her thoughts.

If she couldn’t change his mind, she had to tag along no matter what.

She simply couldn’t imagine how Lotte would react if she woke up to find Fu Qian standing in her hospital room.

This was also why she had abandoned the thought of running away last night.

With a figure like Fu Qian currently in the Small Town, she truly couldn’t fathom what kind of chaotic scene would unfold if she left.

Even though she still wasn’t sure of his true objective.

”Sure!”

Fu Qian agreed between bites of breakfast.

He had to admit, Veil was a responsible older sister.

In truth, Fu Qian had little interest in running over just to scare a clueless young girl.

His insistence on visiting the hospital stemmed from a sudden flash of inspiration.

If he truly couldn’t find any traces of a demigod’s fall, and Helom had simply died here like an ordinary person without causing a single ripple...

Then why not investigate it as a normal death?

Under those circumstances, a hospital was a classic location perfectly worth checking out.

Beyond that, of course, was his sheer faith in the rebellious young girl’s natural constitution. He felt like she had a knack for stumbling across anomalies.
