My Most Beautiful Fiancée

Mu Lin had no idea his words had nearly scared Lin Shishi out of her wits.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Long leaned in and asked Mu Lin earnestly, ”Mr. Mu, what kind of plan is this? The Military Suppression Bureau has tried everything, but he always manages to escape. I’m really running out of good ideas.”

Mu Lin said, ”It’s a small matter. Just focus on your task. I’ll handle the rest, so you don’t need to worry about a thing.”

Hearing Mu Lin speak with such conviction, Jiang Long stopped overthinking it and hurried off to make the arrangements.

The matter with the driver was settled, and Mu Lin had accomplished what he set out to do. There was no point in Jiang Long sticking around and wasting time. It was more reasonable for him to get on with his business quickly.

When Lin Shishi heard there was a way to take down Xu Hao, she felt a surge of joy, but she couldn’t help but remain uneasy. ”Mu Lin, even if we deal with this Xu Hao, we still won’t have the mastermind. As long as he refuses to talk, the person behind all this will remain a mystery forever.”

Lin Jin added, ”This is a huge problem. As long as I’m alive, they’ll definitely strike again. I’m afraid they’ll get to me before they slip up and reveal themselves.”

”Mu Lin, do you think you could protect me for a while?”

Mu Lin sighed. ”In the past, maybe. But my schedule is completely packed right now. It’s really not that simple.”

Lin Jin was a little crestfallen. ”So I’m in big trouble, then?”

Mu Lin opened his mouth to reply when his phone suddenly rang.

He picked it up and saw it was a call from Elder Li.

”Mu Lin, my boy! You’ve been in the East Sea for so long, why haven’t you come back yet!”

Mu Lin instantly understood. Elder Li was just worried because he had been away for a while.

”Grandpa, I’m in Di Yang. Something came up, so I made a detour here.”

Elder Li said, ”Oh, you’re in Di Yang? Perfect. The bidding for that Hengsheng International project is about to start, and Xue’Er is already on her way there. Why don’t you wait for her?”

Mu Lin was a little surprised. ’So that project is still on.’

’Then again,’ he thought, ’it makes sense. Major projects like this often take over a year to get going. I’ve only been down from the mountain for a few days, but so much has happened that I’ve lost track of time.’

The project had already run into a number of complications, and the lack of various connections was a major headache.

One of the most frustrating parts was Zhou Qianfan’s forced transfer to Di Yang. Without his support, the project’s future looked rather bleak.

But on second thought, maybe things weren’t that dire.

The Li Family still had Tai Weiguo looking out for them, so the project was probably on solid ground.

At least it wouldn’t be scrapped completely.

It was just that the project was too large; it had to go through the proper channels to win public approval.

This was a necessary step. Without rules, even the biggest deals were bound to fail.

”Alright, I’ll meet her in Di Yang. When is she scheduled to arrive?”

Elder Li said, ”Could be tomorrow, could be the day after. If we land the Hengsheng International project, she won’t be coming back to Anhua. She’ll focus on running the project in Di Yang, so she has a lot of things to bring.”

Mu Lin was taken aback. ”President Li is going to be based in Di Yang from now on? Then who will manage the group’s daily operations?”

Li Xue was beautiful, but she was no mere pretty face. She managed every aspect of the business with meticulous care.

Elder Li said, ”Listen to you. Was the family not doing business before Xue’Er started working? Don’t be ridiculous. This just means there are other things to be done. We still have to be careful for what comes next.”

Mu Lin pursed his lips. ’I really am overthinking this,’ he thought.

”Mu Lin, I’m entrusting Xue’Er’s safety to you. She’s a newly married young woman, and who knows how many people are eyeing her with envy. As her husband, you need to step up and protect her!”

Mu Lin said, ”I will.”

No matter how he looked at it, he had no reason to refuse this request.

Elder Li said, ”Then you just rest up and recharge in Di Yang. I’ll send you some money. You have to stay somewhere nice, don’t short-change yourself!”

The moment Mu Lin heard he was getting money, his spirits lifted.

”Grandpa, there’s no need! I have money! It’s more than enough!”

Elder Li said, ”Nonsense. How much money could you possibly have? Just take it, and don’t argue!”

Elder Li was quite firm, so Mu Lin could only dutifully accept.

When Mu Lin saw the text notification for the transfer, he was stunned. It was a full two million.

He had tens of billions at his disposal, yet here he was, obediently accepting two million from Elder Li.

The feeling was truly bizarre.

After hanging up, Mu Lin turned around to find Lin Jin watching him with a serious and slightly worried expression.

”So, uh, Mu Lin... do you have to leave?”

Mu Lin gave a wry smile. ”I do have things to do, but as it turns out, I’m not in a rush to leave anymore. Uncle Lin, I’ll be the one to protect you for the time being.”

Lin Jin was overjoyed. ”That’s wonderful, of course! With you around, I won’t have to worry about any of this!”

Wan Pengcheng said politely, ”Mr. Lin, Mr. Mu, it’s not right to keep you standing here. Why don’t we go to the reception room for some tea?”

Lin Jin said he was being too kind, then had Wan Pengcheng lead the way.

Halfway there, a few officers walked in with a young man in tow. The youth stumbled as he walked, looking utterly dejected.

As the young man passed by, he saw Lin Shishi, and his eyes immediately locked onto her.

”Hey beautiful, I like what I see. How about you give me your number?”

Lin Shishi pretended not to hear. She was used to dealing with countless lechers like him.

Besides, the man was already in handcuffs. What right did he have to be so brazen?

Mu Lin didn’t pay it any mind, either. ’Lin Shishi is beautiful, so it’s normal for things like this to happen. It’s even more normal to find scum at the Patrol Team station. So what’s the big deal?’

But after a quick glance, his expression turned serious.

He asked Wan Pengcheng, ”What’s the story with that criminal?”

Wan Pengcheng said, ”Probably caught for sexual harassment again, I’d guess.”

”Probably? Captain Wan, this man may be a scoundrel, but you can’t just slander him without proof!” Lin Shishi said earnestly.

Wan Pengcheng scoffed, ”Slander him? Me? Oh, please. I swear on my life, this guy is a repeat offender! We’ve arrested him no less than ten times! It’s the same story every time: he drugs a girl, sleeps with her, and the girl reports it. We bring him in, and a few days later, the girl comes back saying it was all a misunderstanding, that she was willing. We have no choice but to let him go...”

Lin Shishi pressed her lips together. ”How can anyone believe such nonsense?”

Wan Pengcheng said, ”Of course not! I know it’s all bullshit! But what can we do when the victim herself comes to withdraw the case? We have to respect her wishes... Everyone knows that bastard’s family used their connections!”

The word ”connections” made Lin Shishi’s ears perk up. ”Connections? What kind of connections?”

”His family is rich—filthy rich. So they prefer to solve problems with money. And besides money, there are, of course, threats.”

Lin Shishi’s expression turned ugly. ’Another one of these people...’

Mu Lin wasn’t happy either. Another white card had appeared, which meant there were likely more of them out there.

In other words, at any moment, more young women could fall victim to this kind of assault.

”Can’t you prevent the young woman from having contact with outsiders?” Mu Lin asked.

Wan Pengcheng gave a wry smile. ”Mr. Mu, we’ve already exhausted every method we have. No matter what we do, his family can always force the girl to submit.”

Miao Ya added coldly, ”You must be from some major power, with little experience of the real world, huh? You think he can act so arrogantly just because of money? His backer is the key! He has money and a powerful backer, and that’s why he treats people like this.”

Mu Lin paused, then nodded. ”That makes sense. You’re right. So who is his father? And who is his family’s backer?”

Wan Pengcheng answered, ”The chairman of Xiguang Group, Lv Ximing.”

A look of realization dawned on Lin Jin’s face. ”So that little bastard is his son. No wonder! He’s one of the Jade Pavilion District’s people!”

When Lin Jin had investigated the Jade Pavilion District, he had been shocked by the long list of names. The memory was deeply ingrained.

Wan Pengcheng, however, was stunned. He had no idea what the Jade Pavilion District was. ”The Jade Pavilion District? Is that some kind of criminal organization?”

Mu Lin said, ”Captain Wan, do your best to have your people protect that girl.”

”Mr. Mu, don’t be reckless...” Wan Pengcheng vaguely sensed that this Jade Pavilion District was not to be trifled with. He warned Mu Lin out of an instinct for danger.

Mu Lin just smiled without a word. Lin Jin said, ”Don’t worry, and don’t panic. I trust Mu Lin to handle things. Just let him do what he needs to do!”
