[BL] Alpha, You've Got the Wrong Mate!

Chapter 255: 255 — Follow Him Like A...

[Maybe everything is a lie. The equality between omegas and alphas they speak of does not exist in Revhara after all. Otherwise, how would one explain that an omega can’t even bring a child into this world no matter how hard they fought against the alphas for it? Or is it because Yusha was once a slave, he has no say in front of his master?]

Ren dropped his quill, the memory of earlier flickering through his mind like a storm refusing to quiet.

When he had stepped into Yusha’s room, he hadn’t been met with silence but chaos—clothes scattered across the floor, drawers half-open, glass shattered in sharp fragments like something fragile had been struck too hard. It felt as though a storm had torn through the room while the world looked away.

But this wasn’t nature.

This was someone’s doing.

And certainly not Yusha. He would never. He was gentle—careful even with the smallest things.

There was only one name that filled Ren’s mind like poison.

Count Liam.

Ren inhaled slowly, forcing the bitterness down as he approached the bed. Yusha sat hunched at the edge, face buried into the mattress, shoulders trembling. His weeping was soft—almost smothered—as if even his pain needed permission to exist.

”Yusha,” Ren called gently.

No response. Only the fragile sound of breath breaking between sobs.

Ren lowered himself to his knees beside him, eyes falling to the tangled blue yarn on the floor. The same colour that once shimmered with hope between Yusha’s fingers.

Now it lay torn—ruined—like something precious strangled out of existence. Perhaps like the child he wished for.

”Did he do this? You were so eager to make something for your child,” Ren whispered.

Yusha’s fingers tightened weakly around the bedsheets, red eyes visible through shaking lashes.

”I shouldn’t have hoped for happiness,” he breathed, voice cracking. ”I thought—if I made something... if I proved I could be a good parent—maybe he would want it. Maybe he would want us.”

Ren’s heart contracted painfully.

He wanted to reach out.

He wanted to shake Liam for what he’d done.

But instead, he rested a steady hand on Yusha’s back—firm enough to say I’m here, gentle enough to murmur you’re not alone.

Over the years, he had learned something important—sometimes silence comforted more than words ever could.

Yusha’s breathing trembled.

”H-He’ll never want a child with me,” he whispered. ”I knew it, but... I still wanted to believe.”

Ren swallowed.

Belief—he knew—was the cruelest blade. Hope was made only to shatter.

Slowly, Yusha raised his head, eyes swollen and lashes wet.

”Ren... Wh-What should I do now? He won’t let me have this baby. I know it,” he sobbed again, voice shattering like the glass on the floor.

Ren didn’t answer immediately.

If he spoke from his heart, he would tell Yusha to run.

If he spoke from reason, he would tell him to let go of hope—of the child he already loved.

He had no soft truths to give.

So instead, he wiped Yusha’s tears with his thumb, voice low, steady, grounding.

”That choice is yours, Yusha. No one can make it for you—not even me. But whatever you decide, I will stand with you. I will help you through it.”

But as if the Gods were against them, the door swung open. And Liam stood at the threshold.

Without a word, he barged in, his footsteps echoing in the silence while Yusha struggled to keep his breath steady.

”You were crying?” the alpha asked in disbelief, as if Yusha’s tears had nothing to do with his behaviour.

The servant shook his head, straightening himself.

Ren also rose, bowing to the count. Even if he was in a relationship with Zayden, he held no noble titles, nor did he rank higher than Count Liam. He was still just a servant who could be dismissed, killed—executed, anything.

And that realization struck him.

He was just a useless man who held no power to help his friend who never left his side.

Liam didn’t bother glancing Ren’s way, his gaze fixated upon the longer-haired man and his trembling eyelashes—damp.

He gently pressed his hands against Yusha’s cheeks, brushing off the liquid.

”Stop crying. Are you sad you need to leave the palace? I didn’t know you liked luxury this much. Worry not, one day, I will gift you a house of your own with countless servants. For now,” he snapped his fingers.

A servant walked in, reaching for the luggage at the corner of the room. Then, he walked away with it.

”Let’s go. We have things to do.” Liam reached for Yusha’s hand, holding it with a smile.

Yusha glanced at Ren, helpless—as if asking for help.

”My Lord,” Ren swallowed hard. He couldn’t stand still and not speak up when his friend was obviously being taken away against his will. ”He doesn’t want to go. Let him stay with me.”

Liam turned his head slowly, as if the very idea amused him. His grip never loosened around Yusha’s wrist.

”Oh?”

His gaze slid to the omega—sharp, probing, taunting.

”Is that true? You would rather stay here? With him?”

The room fell silent.

Ren held his breath. His gaze flickered toward his friend, hoping that this time, he would stand up for his unborn child. That he wouldn’t take this cruel man’s hand—the one who wanted to kill their child even before it was born—and leave with him.

Yusha’s fingers twitched, caught between the warmth that hurt and the distance that would break him. His eyes stayed on Liam, though Ren could feel the tremor in them—like something delicate trying not to shatter.

”I...” Yusha inhaled, his chest tightening, voice barely above a whisper. ”No. I-I want to go with you.”

Ren’s heart dropped.

Yusha lowered his head, eyelashes wet again, but this time he forced himself not to shake.

”I belong to you, my lord. And I don’t wish to anger you.”

Liam smiled—victory dressed in tenderness.

”Good boy.”

Ren’s jaw tightened. He felt it—the helplessness clawing through his ribs, the knowledge that love could look like devotion and still bleed like a knife.

Yusha loved this man, Ren realised.

Enough to follow. Enough to break himself quietly just to stay in Liam’s light.

Even if that light burned.

Liam gave Yusha’s hand a gentle tug.

”Come.”

And Yusha went without looking back. Because he simply couldn’t face Ren after this.

How was he supposed to explain to his friend that he followed Liam not because he was owned—but because love, sometimes, was a chain of its own?

***

Ren shut his diary with a loud thud. It had been a long time since he last wrote anything in it.

After a moment, he opened it again, fingers quietly flipping through the pages. It was filled with things about Ilyan—details he didn’t want to lose. His favourite colours, food, flowers, perfumes. The things he loved, and every promise they made together.

There were many entries he barely remembered.

Some pages were nearly identical, the same memories written again and again. It was like a sickness—a habit born from fear. Fear of forgetting.

Whenever he mentioned it to Ilyan, the man would only laugh softly and kiss him, telling him it wasn’t true.

Further in, the ink colour had changed.

The next section was about Hianshu—now full of information about Revhara.

And the last part... It was about Ren’s feelings. Raw, unpolished, painfully honest.

This diary was the only thing he carried with him when they escaped the Temple.

It held his entire life. His memories. His love.

He could never leave it behind.

What if he forgot Ilyan again?

He glanced behind him—left, right—then shut the diary and tucked it deep into his belongings.

He had to be careful. No one could ever find it. That book was a secret meant to stay with him until his final breath.

If death ever chose to take him.

When it came to him, the Gods always showed mercy in the cruelest way—by sparing him. They would not grant him the peace of an ending so easily.

But now... he no longer wanted it.

Not when he had Zayden. Not when Eiran—his beloved son—slept peacefully in the next room, warm and safe from all harm.

He finally had the family he had longed for all his life.

Once he placed the notebook back where it belonged, Ren lay down on his bed, eyes fixed on the ceiling.

All day, the thought gnawed at him—Yusha leaving with Liam.

He knew perfectly well that Liam did not want the child. So what would happen now?

What if Count Liam hurt him?

What if Yusha was alone with someone who wished away the very life growing inside him?

Dark thoughts churned like restless waves in the back of Ren’s mind. Sleep would not come—not while someone he treasured was walking blindly into danger.

”And he chose to follow him like a—”

Ren bit down on the word before it escaped. He could never call Yusha a dog—too cruel, too demeaning.

Yet the comparison bitterly made sense. Only a loyal creature would follow its master without hesitation... even if it meant walking into a storm.

Yusha needed to change.

Not for Ren, not even for Liam—but for that child.

Because the way he loved was hurting him. And would eventually hurt them both.
