This Life, I'm Raising the Right Man

Nearby town. Su Yaoguang was busy assessing the recovery status of patients and didn’t catch what Zhou Wangshu said. She casually remarked, ”What did you say? I didn’t hear clearly, say it again?”

Zhou Wangshu leaned over the counter nearby, looked into Su Yaoguang’s eyes, and seriously asked, ”Do you want to be the Champion Scholar’s wife?”

Su Yaoguang paused, looked up at Zhou Wangshu, and touched his forehead, ”Are you sick? If you’re tired, find a place to rest, don’t push yourself. You were quite handsome before — if you turn into a fool, you won’t be able to get a wife.”

”Then I’ll just stick by you and let you take care of me for life.”

”Do you think you can scare me? Anyway, I’m not planning to find a man. Having a ready-made shield is quite nice.”

”Why don’t you want to find a man? Is it that you don’t like men, or are you heartbroken because of men?”

Su Yaoguang said indifferently, ”What’s so good about men? If I make money, I can have as many men as I want. Isn’t that better than sticking to just one man?”

Zhou Wangshu: ”...Turns out you don’t dislike men; you just dislike ’one’ man.”

He spoke and heavily slammed the towel he was holding, snorted sarcastically, and left.

Su Yaoguang: ”...Why are men’s minds so hard to guess? Is it because they grow up and start having little thoughts of their own?”

Zhang Zhaodi walked over, tapped the table, and glared at her. ”What did you just do to Wang Shu?”

Su Yaoguang was baffled, ”We just talked a little, didn’t do anything! Mother, what’s wrong again?”

”Did you bully him? Did you scold him? If not, why are his eyes so red as if he’s cried?” After admonishing, Zhang Zhaodi earnestly said, ”Daughter, Wang Shu indeed can’t read as well as Xiao Yanci, and you can’t count on him to pass the imperial exams in the future. But he’s handsome and devoted to you; I am reassured leaving you with him. You can’t bully him just because he’s honest. Look, you deal with so many male patients and have seen how many men’s bodies, yet Wang Shu has never complained about you. Where can you find such a considerate man?”

Su Yaoguang listened to Zhang Zhaodi’s endless lectures and silently looked towards Jiang Jing for help.

The latter received the signal and hurriedly came over, saying to Zhang Zhaodi, ”Godmother, I’m busy over there and need your help.”

”Okay, tell me what to do, I’ll cooperate with you.” Zhang Zhaodi followed Jiang Jing away.

Su Yaoguang let out a light breath.

She closed the booklet, looked towards Zhou Wangshu’s direction, pondering the conversation they just had.

Didn’t she say anything?

Forget it, thinking about it won’t make it clear. Better to just coax directly. Anyway, that lad is easy to coax, so why bother with the reason? Just solve the problem directly.

He mentioned wanting to eat pastries last time.

Zhou Wangshu got caught up in work and, after finishing, calmed down and started reflecting on his earlier actions.

What’s wrong with him?

Anyway, he’s going to leave eventually. Whether she marries a Champion Scholar or a commoner, what’s it to him?

At most, he’ll send her a gift as a brother, wishing her a long, prosperous life with her husband.

He recalled the dream he had in the temple.

He always felt that wasn’t a dream but something that actually happened.

In her past life, she married Xiao Yanci and became the Champion Scholar’s wife but didn’t gain respect from others. From a village girl, she transformed into an official family’s noblewoman, enduring much suffering and humiliation. Yet, she reveled in it nonetheless. He asked her, probably wanting to know if she aspired to be the Champion Scholar’s wife. If not, why endure all those inhuman abuses?

A scent wafted through the air.

He turned his head towards the fragrance and saw Su Yaoguang carrying a tray of pastries.

”Been too busy lately, finally fulfilling my promise of pastries to you now. Hope Young Master Zhou isn’t angry.” Su Yaoguang handed him the pastries.

Zhou Wangshu glanced at the pastries before him, and his expression changed.

On the tray lay various colorful pastries, twelve in total, each a different color and shape.

There were peonies, plum blossoms, lotus, daffodils, and more; each flower lifelike like real blooms.

Such pastries were exquisite, almost like artwork, too beautiful to eat. However, these weren’t pastries Su Yaoguang from the countryside could craft; they were new creations she designed after witnessing noble banquets as the Champion Scholar’s wife, due to which she was praised by noblewomen for days.

Su Yaoguang making these pastries at this moment was utterly abnormal.

She possessed memories of her past life.

Perhaps, like him, she was enlightened in the temple and had such a dream.

”What are you staring at? Eat!” Su Yaoguang pinched a pastry and stuffed it into Zhou Wangshu’s mouth, ”Taste it. These pastries were hard work. You can’t be angry after eating the pastries.”

Even though she didn’t know why this lad was angry.

Zhou Wangshu tasted the pastry, savoring its fragrant sweetness.

When he was a spirit following her, he saw her spend so much time researching pastries, testing them herself daily, trying dozens until she made the most satisfying one. At that time, he wanted to taste how good the pastries were.

The dream was too real, making him fixated, longing to know just how delicious that pastry was. Now finally tasted, it was indeed as good as imagined.

”How is it?” Su Yaoguang looked at him expectantly.

Xiao Yanci, with his picky taste, couldn’t stop praising these pastries; she couldn’t believe Zhou Wangshu couldn’t be won over.

While eating the pastries, Zhou Wangshu probed, ”Did you make these yourself?”

”What else?” Su Yaoguang replied, ”Did you make them?”

”Such complex pastries, even the largest pastry shop in the county can’t make them. How did you make them?”

Su Yaoguang: ”...I don’t know either; it just felt like I instinctively knew how to make them while doing it. Maybe in my past life, I was a pastry chef, so I’m so skilled now!”

Upon hearing this, Zhou Wangshu’s suspicion towards Su Yaoguang slightly reduced.

If that’s true, Su Yaoguang might not remember past events but just instinctively knows how to make pastries, carrying over the skill.

”Did you make for anyone else before?”

”No, where would I find time?” Su Yaoguang knocked on his forehead, ”You’ve been acting weird lately, asking me things I don’t understand. Later have Jing’er check if you’re too worn out lately, turned a bit silly.”
