Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2311: Chapter 2247: Not as Good as a Granddaughter

It’s not that she’s bothered by how slowly he gets promoted; rather, she wonders, big brother, when will you not have to keep going on missions and spend more time with me?

Of course, she wouldn’t say this out loud. This thought just flashed through her mind for a brief moment.

In Chiang Xiao’s view, Meng Xinian was more suited for going on missions, through gunfire and explosions. It’s not that she was selflessly minded towards the world; she just felt that with his skills and personality, that life might suit him better.

It’s certainly better than having him sit in an office, flipping through newspapers, drinking tea, and attending meetings.

While he’s still full of energy and strength, why not go and spill some hot blood?

Besides, with him there, at least he could genuinely spare others some of the life-threatening risks. After all, his skills truly surpassed others by a long shot now.

Meng Xinian surely must have thought about it like this at some point.

Old Yang looked at the things Yang Zhiqi was carrying and asked casually, ”What did you buy?”

”Pan-fried buns, Dad, didn’t you use to really like them?”

Yang Zhiqi hurriedly handed over the items in his hand.

He hadn’t expected this gesture would anger Old Yang, who slammed down his chopsticks and said sternly, ”Take it away, take it away! Eat it yourself! What’s the use of raising a son? Not even worth a granddaughter’s hair!”

Granddaughter?

Who? He doesn’t have a daughter.

Besides, didn’t Dad love pan-fried buns back then?

Yang Zhiqi was stunned.

Old Yang ignored him and turned to Chiang Xiao with a completely different tone, ”How many bowls of porridge can grandpa eat today?”

Pfft.

Chiang Xiao was taken aback.

Does she have particularly good luck with elders?

Previously, Grandpa Chen Baoshen always wanted her to be his granddaughter. And now there’s Grandpa Yang?

He was just calling him ”Big Master” earlier.

Turns out, earlier when he let her call Yang Zhiqi uncle, there was this implication, huh?

”The porridge is very thin, so eating two bowls shouldn’t be a problem,” she responded honestly.

”Good, then grandpa will have two bowls.” Old Yang, satisfied, picked up the porridge and started eating.

Aunt Yang also smiled and picked up her porridge, then said to Yang Zhiqi, ”There’s no porridge for you, go eat the buns.”

They were all worried before that he’d be concerned, worried it would affect his work. But now everything was fine, couldn’t they let their irritation out?

After all, as their son, he hadn’t noticed such a big issue at all.

Even Buddy Meng knew about it.

So sometimes, elderly people would throw little tantrums too.

Yang Zhiqi: ”...”

How come it feels like he attended a meeting and came back to a world he no longer understands?

Meng Xinian stood up, gave him a look, and the two went to the adjoining room.

After a while.

Yang Zhiqi, with reddened eyes and an itching hand, subconsciously asked Meng Xinian, ”Do you have a cigarette?”

After asking, he couldn’t help but laugh at himself.

He really was being silly. Meng Xinian never smoked; where would a cigarette come from?

But just finding out that his father had such a serious health issue before, and he didn’t know a thing, made Yang Zhiqi feel like he failed as a son.

No wonder Dad and Mom were living well at home and suddenly said they wanted to come stay with him.

Earlier when his wife mentioned that something was odd, he had assured her there was nothing strange about it, that they just missed him.

Miss him, my foot.

Now, thinking carefully, it turned out that after they arrived, when he first brought them food from the cafeteria, they never ate a bite of it in front of him.

Later on, they even started a garden on the rooftop just so that he wouldn’t have to bring them food.
