Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 140: Chapter 140: The Stingy Miser

”Or, or maybe you can give a little less, and take the rabbit away.” Chiang Songhai dared not look at Chiang Xiao.

He was actually really afraid that Chiang Baoguo would continue to badmouth Chiang Xiao here.

In Peace Town’s large market, neighbors from the surrounding areas would come to trade, and any news would spread very quickly. If Chiang Xiao’s reputation were to be sullied, it would be heard by so many people, and as she grew up, it would only be harder for her to find a suitor.

Besides, it wasn’t like he was giving the rabbit to Chiang Baoguo for free, just stepping back a bit to let them pay less. Hopefully, Chiang Xiao wouldn’t be too angry, right?

But even as he thought this, he still felt a bit guilty and didn’t dare to look at Chiang Xiao.

Chiang Xiao felt like she was choking.

Before she could speak, Ding Meifen had already taken out two dollars and handed them to Chiang Songhai, ”Two dollars for you, you’ve still made a profit. Brother Baoguo is right, you didn’t spend much on these rabbits, even one dollar is a profit.”

Chiang Xiao was livid.

She had never imagined someone could be so shameless.

Moreover, her father was a factory manager. Judging by their clothes and the bicycle, they didn’t look like they were struggling financially. Were they really so greedy as to take advantage of country folk?

It seems that what Chiang Lidong said last time was right; these are the stingy, miserly types!

”I was going to round down for you and only charge eight, but now I’ve changed my mind. These two rabbits, eight yuan and twelve cents, not a cent less.” She shuffled the basket behind her with her foot.

”You wretched girl, are you trying to make things difficult for me?” Ding Meifen’s face changed.

Chiang Xiao stood there, looking at her askance, ”It’s ridiculous, is there any logic in forcing someone to sell their goods cheaply? Big sister, you’ve got some nerve! By that logic, you could set the price for anything in the market that catches your eye?”

In just a short while, a crowd had gathered around to watch the excitement, and those who had listened from the start couldn’t help but laugh.

”Indeed, two bucks for two wild rabbits, your money must be really effective.”

”Haha, I’ve lived for over thirty years and never come across anything so cheap.”

”This is something else, I think we should be careful, too. We shouldn’t let this type of person see anything we sell. What I’m selling is all made out of bamboo cut from the mountains. To them, it seems it cost nothing.”

”Hahaha, better watch out, an eight-cent bamboo basket might only get you two cents in exchange, and they’ll want you to throw in a basket too!”

The crowd burst into laughter.

Chiang Baoguo’s face was so dark it looked like it was dripping ink, and Ding Meifen was both ashamed and annoyed.

Just when Chiang Xiao thought she couldn’t stand it and was about to run away with Chiang Baoguo, she actually pulled out a five-dollar bill and handed it to Chiang Xiao.

”Here’s five! Enough, give me the rabbit now!”

Chiang Xiao felt she couldn’t quite comprehend her thought process, ”I said, not a cent less.” She thinks giving five is doing me a favor?

”Chiang Xiao! Enough is enough! Don’t push your luck! We’re not picking a fight with you, and yet you’re really getting above yourself, aren’t you?”

Chiang Baoguo pointed at her nose and cursed angrily.

Chiang Xiao’s eyes darkened as she turned to the onlookers, her voice ringing out clear, ”Fat and lively wild rabbits for sale! Anyone want to buy? Discounted price, it used to be seventy cents per pound, now it’s only fifty-five cents! If you take all three, it’s a deal for nine!”

Originally, the three rabbits would have cost more than nine yuan, but now you could take all three for just nine bucks!

Upon hearing this, the watching crowd suddenly became interested.
