Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Swallowing the Gall of a Leopard

”We’ve found the hostages, but they are all severely injured and in bad shape; they urgently need medical attention!” Chiang Xiao followed Hu Xibing into the backyard and quickly relayed the most critical intelligence.

Hu Xibing’s expression darkened, ”The second... hostage is also injured?”

The identity of the hostages couldn’t be revealed lightly, but hearing that she was also severely hurt made Hu Xibing feel that things were not looking good.

Chiang Xiao had not seen the lady, but she still believed what Meng Xinian had said. He definitely wanted her to come out, partly to ensure her safety and partly to communicate to those outside that rescuing the hostages was the most important thing and must not be delayed.

However, it was impossible to bring a doctor on site, as that would alarm the suspects.

It was still feasible with Chu Liang, but that lady, they clearly wouldn’t let anyone see her.

They were now in a dilemma.

”Furthermore, apart from targets number two and three, there are quite a few people hidden inside the house. Captain Meng said he can sense around six people already.”

”Six people?” Hu Xibing’s face changed again.

Six people hiding in there, refusing to step out even a little bit, even if they could forcefully break in, they feared they wouldn’t be able to ensure the hostages’ safety immediately.

Chiang Xiao nodded and said, ”I think there are more than six people!”

She didn’t have the opportunity to tell Meng Xinian this.

Because after she finished cooking, target number three showed a flicker of dissatisfaction when he saw the quantity of porridge and pancakes.

After hearing her analysis, Hu Xibing paused, ”Just because of this, you’re concluding that there are more than six people?”

”Yes,” Chiang Xiao affirmed, ”because I’m confident in the food I make. Her dissatisfaction was definitely not because it was poorly made, but because there might not be enough to eat!”

”The six people Captain Meng mentioned, plus the four of you, and a fainted Chu Liang, indeed that wouldn’t be enough to eat.”

”No, including Chu Liang, for eleven people, that pot of porridge would be enough for each person to have more than half a bowl, and one egg pancake each. Do you think that amount would still cause dissatisfaction?”

For an adult man, more than half a bowl of porridge and one egg pancake might not be enough to fill up, but it should be enough to be 60 or 70 percent full.

”Besides, during special times, to have this much for dinner, what’s there to be dissatisfied about?” Chiang Xiao continued, ”The only possibility is that there are at least five or six more people to share the food, in which case they wouldn’t even be 40 or 50 percent full. And to maintain the act, we three would not get less. Those they are hiding would only have a few bites to eat, hence the dissatisfaction!”

Hu Xibing listened, his heart pounding, and he looked at Chiang Xiao in disbelief.

This young girl was truly incredible!

He had to admit, she completely convinced him!

So it seemed, there were at least twelve or more criminals hiding in that mansion!

If they couldn’t ensure the safety of the hostages, how could they dare to make a move?

Chiang Xiao said, ”Brother Hu, haven’t the rescue team arrived in town yet, or do you still need to pass on the message?” How much time would be wasted relaying the message back and forth?

Hu Xibing shook his head and pointed at a room.

Chiang Xiao then faintly heard someone speaking inside the room, a male voice, steady with a hint of anger.

She immediately understood, it seemed that the rescuers had already arrived. However, from Hu Xibing’s demeanor, it appeared he didn’t intend to let her directly relay the intelligence to the people inside.

The room was furnished simply with a bed, a cabinet, a table, and a few chairs.

And standing next to the table were three men, all dressed in crisp Supervisor Guard uniforms.

The three of them were in their thirties or forties, with ordinary features, but their presence was extraordinary.

”Meng Xinian, that damned fool, just took Zhao Xin into that mansion? Has he really grown bear’s guts and leopard’s heart? Can individualism be tolerated at this time?
