Transmigrating into the Genius Cannon Fodder’s Aunt

Extra 1 Part 1 – The Side of Dr. Ning No One Else Would Ever Know (I)

In the dormitory of Yanbei Normal University.

Xia Mian put down the final stroke on the colorful stationery paper, then stood up and stretched broadly, announcing, “Finally finished!”

Sun Yuexin picked one up and glanced at it, reading aloud, “Dr. Ning, I only wrote one line in all these love letters. As for the rest of the romance, we still have a long future ahead of us!”

Li Lizhen took a deep breath. “Now I know why I can’t find myself a boyfriend.”

“I’m serious, Xia Mian, you’re way too good at this. Even I, as a girl, am moved by you. Dr. Ning is definitely going to be pleasantly surprised. I think you could totally publish a book.”

Sun Yuexin also sighed in admiration. “Geez, one thousand love letters! I seriously think you could keep writing forever.”

Xia Mian took a piece of paper she had already finished, folding it into a paper airplane as she laughed. “Of course I could. Our Dr. Ning is my muse. The moment I think about him, inspiration just keeps flowing endlessly.”

Sun Xiaoxue said, “I believe it. Look, you just casually came up with another line.”

After folding the last paper airplane, Sun Yuexin sighed. “We should be grateful we were short on time, otherwise my hands would’ve been ruined. Look, my fingers are all red from folding.”

Because time was tight, Xia Mian had called Sun Yuexin and Li Lizhen to the dormitory to help her.

Ma Yingying commented, “Graduating and then immediately getting married, huh? The day after attending your university graduation ceremony, you have your wedding. Xia Mian, your life really is incredibly full.”

Xia Mian thought of something and coughed lightly, her cheeks heating up. “Can’t be helped. One misstep can lead to eternal regret…”

Her friends thought she meant getting engaged so early, but that wasn’t actually the whole story.

As Xia Mian’s university graduation approached—actually, ever since the beginning of the year—Ning Shaobai had already started enthusiastically preparing for their wedding.

He prepared everything with great fanfare, bringing catalogs of wedding dresses, furniture, wedding favors, and more for Xia Mian to choose from. His eagerness couldn’t have been more obvious.

Their relationship had always progressed naturally. Xia Mian had already worn her engagement ring for four years, so she wasn’t being coy about it. She cooperated in preparing everything that needed to be prepared and also hoped to officially register their marriage after graduation.

Xia Wenyue, on the other hand, was even more enthusiastic. Ning Shaobai had waited for Xia Mian for so many years and was already twenty-nine. In this era, that practically made him a super leftover bachelor.

Besides, everyone could see how devoted he was, and the Xia family had no reason to play hard to get anymore. So at the beginning of the year, Xia Wenyue went to have auspicious dates calculated.

There was June 18th, July 12th, and another date in September.

Xia Wenyue knew Ning Shaobai was anxious, so she deliberately picked the three nearest dates. She had even automatically eliminated the September option herself.

At the time, the date for Xia Mian’s graduation ceremony had not yet been confirmed, so Xia Wenyue suggested setting the wedding for July 12th.

First, Xia Mian would definitely have graduated by then. Second, there would be more time to prepare, since brides also had many things to take care of.

Back then, Ning Shaobai said nothing. He simply proceeded step by step with preparations for the wedding dress, venue, wedding planning, and everything else.

Two months ago, Yanjing Normal University finally released the official graduation ceremony date for Xia Mian’s class: June 17th. Everyone tacitly assumed they would proceed according to the July 12th wedding date.

But Ning Shaobai insisted on holding the wedding on June 18th. Xia Mian thought he was joking and didn’t agree.

Mainly because she felt sorry for him. Xia Mian knew perfectly well how tedious and chaotic wedding preparations could be. Back when she merely helped with Mao Huimei’s wedding, she had already been driven crazy from the stress.

Meanwhile, Ning Shaobai not only had to worry about her side of the wedding but also prepare everything on his own side. The groom’s wedding arrangements were even more complicated than the bride’s. And he had no elders helping him manage things. Ning Shaoyun could at most help with errands and shopping; all major decisions depended entirely on him.

The research in his laboratory had also reached a critical stage, and he still had to take care of Xiao Feng. Meanwhile, Xia Mian had been overwhelmed preparing her graduation thesis since April, only finishing on the eve of graduation, so she could barely help at all.

Every time she went home for the weekend, she could see how exhausted he looked.

So Xia Mian had originally planned to wait until after graduation so she could help share the burden with him. But if the wedding were set for June 18th, it would simply be too rushed.

As for why she later changed her mind…

Thinking of what happened on Ning Shaobai’s birthday, Xia Mian subconsciously glanced at her chest, and the heat she had tried so hard to suppress rose to her face again…

Huang Yanhong gathered the folded paper airplanes into a box and laughed. “For Dr. Ning, this probably already feels very slow. After all, he waited a full four years for Xia Mian to finish university.”

“That’s not even the whole story.” Sun Yuexin gave Xia Mian a teasing look. She still remembered how shocked she had been during the summer break when she suddenly heard Xia Mian had a boyfriend.

Only after learning it was Dr. Ning did it somehow feel perfectly reasonable. Later, after she and Li Lizhen relentlessly interrogated her, they learned about Ning Shaobai’s long-planned pursuit.

“If you really count it seriously, it’s been at least six years.”

“When she was seventeen, he waited for Xia Mian to become an adult. Then because she said no dating in high school, he waited until she turned nineteen before they officially got together.” Li Lizhen sighed emotionally. “If university students had been allowed to marry, Dr. Ning would’ve dragged her to register their marriage on her twentieth birthday.”

“But then he heard that getting married during university could lead to being asked to withdraw from school, so it was like a bolt from the blue. He could only wait another four years.”

Ma Yingying held it in for a long time, trying her best to sound sympathetic. “Dr. Ning really hasn’t had it easy.”

But the laughter in her voice still slipped through at the end, and everyone burst out laughing.

Indeed, Dr. Ning was truly pitiful!

“So it’s normal that Dr. Ning is anxious.”

He really was anxious. Xia Mian couldn’t help recalling that day again, when she had been pinned against the back seat of the car. In her daze, she heard Ning Shaobai sigh softly:

“Mianmian, I thought I could wait. After all, I’ve already waited all these years.”

“But the closer the date gets, the less my self-control listens to me.”

“Now it’s not that each day feels like a year. Every second feels like a year…”

“Mianmian…” He held her tightly, his voice right beside her ear, carrying an irresistible temptation. “Can you take pity on me? Let’s set it for June 18th, okay?”

Other than saying “okay,” she couldn’t say anything at all.

Xia Mian patted her burning cheeks, only to realize she had no way of controlling the heat, so she simply gave up and let it be.

But Sun Yuexin and the others didn’t pay attention to it at all. Seeing her like that, Sun Xiaoxue instead said, “Turn on the fan. It really is kind of hot.”

Sun Yuexin rolled up a book from the desk and held it to Xia Mian’s mouth like a microphone. “Quick interview! Student Xia Mian, how does it feel to be about to get married?”

Li Lizhen asked curiously, “Will anything really feel different?”

“I honestly feel like you two have basically been an old married couple already. Could Dr. Ning possibly spoil you even more?”

Xia Mian licked her lips lightly. Actually, she had thought the same thing before. Over all these years, Ning Shaobai had given her wholehearted respect and affection. She had believed they already understood each other extremely well, and that married life wouldn’t be too different from how things were now.

Until his birthday that day…
