Chapter 509: Chapter 194: The First Human to Stand Shoulder to Shoulder with Firearms in a Military Armament Evaluation

”Brother Zhang, I’ve missed you these past few days.”

Upon connecting the call, Yang Ying’s voice came through the phone.

Zhang Beixing exchanged pleasantries with him, ”May I know the reason for your call today, Brother Yang?”

”Haha, didn’t I mention to you before that I wanted you to participate in the military equipment evaluation? The evaluation starts at two in the afternoon. Brother Zhang, would it be convenient for you to come over?”

”Of course, it’s convenient, Brother Yang. I’ll be there right away,” Zhang Beixing responded and hung up the call.

He had to attend the nation’s official evaluation no matter what—to save himself trouble and to simplify matters for the nation.

Then he took out his military phone and checked the distance between the military district and his outpost. He found that if he left now, he should be able to get there before two in the afternoon.

Without delay, he went straight back to the outpost and changed into clean and tidy clothes.

Zhang Beixing called Huo Honghao, and together they got into the military vehicle, heading toward the Pu’er military district.

On the way, Zhang Beixing took the opportunity to open his suggestion panel and started to look through it. He had just interacted with netizens on his phone and received quite a few suggestions. But not all these suggestions could be used; some were beyond his current capabilities. For example, ”Flesh into Saint, Vajra Indestructibility,” and another, ”In the world of martial arts, only speed is unbreakable.” The former required him to withstand bullets with his flesh, the latter to catch bullets with his bare hands. For Zhang Beixing at this stage, such feats were still too advanced. His body had not yet been enhanced to such an outrageous extent. Not to mention the even more absurd ”One Sword’s Cold Glow Shines upon Nineteen Provinces,” or ”Resentment for Heaven’s Lack of a Handle, Earth’s Lack of a Ring.” These were completely off the charts. Let alone a Martial Artist who had just entered the Transcendent realm, even a Cultivator would not be able to achieve this immediately.

However, speaking of Cultivation, Zhang Beixing’s gaze fell on the suggestion ”Inquiring about the Dao, Immortal as the Heavens and Earth,” his eyes flickering as he grew pensive. If he had not mastered the Postnatal Five Qi, Zhang Beixing would have shunned this idea without giving it any thought because Cultivation seemed far too impractical. Despite countless ancients who had striven for this goal throughout history, so far, no one had successfully cultivated it. No one had even figured out what this so-called Qi of Heaven and Earth truly was. They could only vaguely and abstractly describe it as something mysterious and profound, nothing more. It was a concept that existed only in theory, not in reality.

But now, having mastered the Postnatal Five Qi, Zhang Beixing found that this might not be so absolute after all. Of course, with his current abilities, he was nowhere near achieving it. But just because he couldn’t do it now didn’t mean he wouldn’t be able to in the future. With his own efforts combined with the System’s allocation of Ability Points, Zhang Beixing might just be able to grasp the ’Pure Qi’ of nature within the Three Qi of Daoism, and the ’Innate Essence Qi’ from the conjoined vital essence of one’s parents! And having mastered these, even if Zhang Beixing didn’t pursue Cultivation, he would still be akin to a Cultivator. Or in other words, could this be called—Immortal-Martial?!

”At the end of the day, I still need to work hard to improve myself and speed up the rate at which I earn Ability Points!” Zhang Beixing muttered to himself, then turned his attention to the other suggestions. After looking around, he found the rewards for those suggestions were either too low or the difficulty was too high. Ultimately, only one suggestion he was prepared to practice was added to his panel: ”With Qi Control, Seek Enemies at a Hundred Meters.”

Although netizens could be very argumentative, often giving outrageous suggestions that could sometimes be infuriating, it had to be admitted that their insight was incisively critical. They pointed out Zhang Beixing’s key flaws, much like this current issue with Qi Control. It was Zhang Beixing’s biggest shortcoming!

As the only Hidden Essence realm Martial Artist in the world, Zhang Beixing was individually very strong; that was universally acknowledged. But no matter how strong he was, there was one problem he couldn’t avoid: his effective attack range was simply too short! Even when wielding a spear, his attack range was only about ten meters. This would have been sufficient in ancient times, but in modern times, it seemed somewhat inadequate!

Just consider firearms; their effective ranges were all no less than fifty meters. Even if Zhang Beixing could close that distance in seven or eight steps with his speed, what if the shooter was in a vehicle? At the very least, what if the opposition laid down concentrated covering fire? Or what if the enemy attacked from hundreds or even thousands of meters away? He couldn’t expect such situations to always occur on winding mountain roads, where there would always be shortcuts to take or forests as cover!

Therefore, mastering a long-range offensive skill capable of taking an enemy’s head from a hundred meters away was crucial for Zhang Beixing! After all, being proficient only in close combat would be a vulnerability, while being adept at both close and long-range combat was the true path to power.

Had Zhang Beixing mastered a Hidden Weapon technique before confronting that group of drug traffickers, they wouldn’t have even thought of running away. By the time they started shooting, Zhang Beixing would have already attacked with his Hidden Weapons, dealing with all of them, and the subsequent crisis would never have occurred.

The martial path is long and arduous; this young martial artist must diligently train!
