I Cultivate in a Government Office

Chapter 291: Chapter 160: Senior Sister (3)

He looked down at the smooth, warm Soul Stone in his hand, feeling the peaceful energy within it that could nourish his Divine Sense. ’This senior sister is quite interesting,’ he thought, then smiled sheepishly. After all, he had more or less ”tricked” her into this show of concern and the gift that came with it. Holding it now, he felt a strange sense of shame.

He shook his head, put away the Soul Stone, and returned to the courtyard, where he boarded the already-started Flying Shuttle.

As the Flying Shuttle cut through the dawning sky, Yang Zhong, who was piloting from the cockpit, reported, ”Patriarch, the General Affairs Department has already contacted us twice. They said Vice Director Wang will arrive in half an hour. The Municipal Bureau’s Personnel Department is sending a deputy section chief to accompany him.”

Yang Wenqing considered this for a moment. An escort from a deputy section chief wasn’t a high-level reception; it was just standard procedure. It seemed the Municipal Bureau truly intended for this Vice Director Wang to just assist with daily affairs and hadn’t assigned any special significance or expectations to his role.

”How is Vice Director Chu’s recovery? Can he work a normal shift today?” Yang Wenqing asked.

”Let me check,” Yang Zhong said, immediately contacting the General Affairs Department through the Flying Shuttle’s communication system. A moment later, he replied, ”Vice Director Chu is already on duty. He’s in his office catching up on backlogged files.”

”Good. Tell Vice Director Chu to welcome Vice Director Wang and our colleagues from the Personnel Department on behalf of the branch bureau,” Yang Wenqing instructed. ”Also, have the General Affairs Department notify everyone that the district public security offices no longer need to send representatives to the ten o’clock meeting. And tell them the department deputies don’t need to come either.”

”Yes, sir.” Yang Zhong immediately relayed the message.

...

A short while later, the Flying Shuttle landed in the rear courtyard of the branch bureau. Yang Wenqing returned to his old vice director’s office and changed into his formal police uniform, the epaulets of which had been updated with two silver stars. He had just sat down behind his desk when Liu Min knocked and entered.

”Director Yang, Director Liao is here.”

”Let him in.”

Liao Tianming entered with a pleased expression. ”Director Yang, the plans for the port and the strategic Warehouse District have been approved from above! Phase one of the project can begin now.”

”Excellent work, Director Liao.” A smile appeared on Yang Wenqing’s face. This was indeed good news. ”When will the earth-vein Cultivators be on site?”

”Three days at the latest. The Provincial Hall has already coordinated it,” Liao Tianming replied. ”The relevant engineering teams, basic materials, and large-scale Rune Array components have all been arranged. As soon as the earth-vein Cultivators complete the initial topographical modifications, the various construction teams can move in immediately. Also, the bidding for the widening of the two main roads leading to the New District is complete. Construction is expected to start the day after tomorrow...”

Liao Tianming was certainly efficient. In just a short time, he had organized the preliminary stages of such a massive project with perfect clarity. Yang Wenqing listened intently to his detailed report, taking in the progress of each item, the potential problems, and the corresponding contingency plans from the Civil Affairs Bureau.

”...Director Liao, continue to take the lead on these matters. If you need any coordination from the branch bureau, we can discuss it at any time.”

Yang Wenqing added, ”There’s a branch bureau meeting at ten. The new Vice Director, Wang Hai, will also be there. In the future, a lot of the work will likely require direct coordination between him and your side. I’ll introduce you two later.”

Liao Tianming understood immediately. ”Understood, Director Yang. I’ll get back to it, then. I’ll be at the meeting at ten sharp.”

After seeing Liao Tianming out, Yang Wenqing used the remaining time to process several urgent documents that Liu Min had set aside for his approval. He had just put down his pen when, as if on cue, Liu Min knocked and entered again. She said:

”Director Yang, the director’s office has been prepared. Would you like to see...?”
