Sovereign of the Ashes

Chapter 1728: Genetic Warbeast Cultivation Technique

As the Magus Civilization’s legion commander on this subspace battlefield, Feylis understood that certain decisions were not hers to make alone.

When faced with the Gallant Federation’s overtures, she chose not to give a direct response. Instead, she escalated the matter to the higher authorities within the Magus Civilization responsible for overseeing this war zone.

Sein was well aware of what he had recovered from the Grandlight Tech Center. In short, most of it consisted of technological information that was of little use to the Magus Civilization, and the vast majority of it was incomplete.

For example, Sein had obtained partial information on two civilizational treasures of the Eiyurant Papillon Civilization—the Infinite Energy device and the Space-time Shocker. However, his knowledge was limited to their names, basic functions, and destructive potential.

If the Magus Civilization could truly replicate the ultimate weapons of a former top-tier technological civilization based on scraps like these, it would be nothing short of a miracle.

For the Magus Civilization, the most tangible gain from this subspace exploration was likely the discovery of marked regions rich in inert crystal deposits.

Yet Sein had never heard of any field within the Magus Civilization that made extensive use of inert crystals.

From his perspective, it seemed that the Magus Civilization had not extracted much real value from this subspace secret realm.

No wonder none of their native overlords had descended in person—they had sent only a single alliance overlord.

Sein himself, however, had struck gold in this subspace over the past few years, reaping far greater rewards than he ever had during his campaigns in the Grand Eye Demon World Star Domain.

Having failed to uncover much valuable civilizational wealth from the Eiyurant Papillon Civilization, Sein could not help but wonder what remnants the Black Merlot Civilization might have left behind.

The Black Merlot Civilization’s relic he and Black Oblivion had collected were primarily those primordial genetic fluids.

To this day, Sein was still unable to derive a proper formula from them. Even when crafting genetic potions for Black Oblivion and the other dragonkins, he still relied on the undiluted liquid recovered from the Black Merlot ruins.

Could it be that the Black Merlot Civilization technology the Gallant Federation wished to get was actually the formula for producing this type of genetic fluid?

On this point, Feylis offered no further explanation. Perhaps even she did not know the answer.

Before the Magus Civilization showed any willingness to trade, the Gallant Federation had no intention of revealing its hand too early.

In truth, the proposal for an exchange was merely the Gallant Federation testing the waters.

They likely did not expect the negotiations to succeed in the first place.

The proposal for an information exchange with the Magus Civilization came from Bond, a Rank Five federal agent, who then brought it to Marshal Rommel’s attention.

Although Bond had failed to intercept Sein and his group during the mission at the Steel Ruins, he later achieved notable success while exploring the overlord-class biological warship of the Black Merlot Civilization.

The most valuable technology the Gallant Federation recovered from that warship was the knowledge of Genetic Warbeast Cultivation Technique.

This technique was not meant for high-level combat among elites, but for use at the lower tiers of the battlefield.

In other words, if the Gallant Federation fully developed it, they could potentially create a legion of genetic warbeasts to serve as expendable cannon fodder.

But what real value did that hold?

As a technological civilization, the Gallant Federation already relied on drones and combat robots for more than ninety percent of its cannon fodder forces.

Surely they would not abandon their established foundations to pursue genetic warbeasts or mounted legions. These approaches were more suited to cultivation-based civilizations.

In short, the Genetic Warbeast Cultivation Technique the Gallant Federation obtained was of limited practical value, yet not something they could simply discard.

Moreover, because it was designed for the cultivation of low-tier genetic warbeasts, even the super soldier projects developed by Gallant Federation scientists had no practical use for it.

In truth, even if they handed this knowledge over to the Magus Civilization, it would not yield immediate results there either.

The Magus Civilization already possessed vast legions of enslaved creatures, more than sufficient to meet its current needs on the civilizational battlefield.

Furthermore, the trade in soul slaves formed a major market within the Magus Alliance.

It served as the economic lifeblood for many world civilizations, such as the large-sized Beastmen World.

If the Magus Civilization were to abandon enslaved creatures in favor of self-cultivated genetic warbeasts, it would likely send a massive economic shockwave through the Magus Alliance’s markets.

How would Beastmen World, whose economy depended almost entirely on slave trades, survive such a disruption?

Of course, supplying the Magus Civilization’s immense demand for cannon fodder solely through genetically engineered warbeasts was not something that could be achieved with mere words.

The resources required for such an undertaking would be nothing short of astronomical.

Moreover, the Magus Civilization also had to consider whether these genetically engineered warbeasts might harbor latent defects. Verifying and researching such risks alone would consume vast amounts of time and resources.

Given the cautious nature of the Magus Civilization’s high-ranking mages, even if these genetically engineered warbeasts were eventually adopted, they would never see widespread deployment across Magus World.

The principle of not putting all one’s eggs in a single basket was something even ordinary Rank Four mages understood well.

At best, this so-called Genetic Warbeast Cultivation Technique could only become one more variant among the Magus Civilization’s ever-expanding cannon fodder legions, much like their existing synthesized undead chimera beast.

After receiving the final assessments from the military scientists accompanying him regarding the knowledge uncovered in the ruins of the Eiyurant Papillon Civilization and the Black Merlot Civilization, Marshal Rommel let out a deep sigh.

None of these technologies could resolve the Gallant Federation’s current predicament!

Moreover, Rommel had learned earlier than most about the turmoil unfolding within the federation’s home star domain and the situation in the Grand Eye Demon World.

He possessed even more detailed intelligence regarding the latter.

The Gallant Federation had, in fact, recently uncovered the mastermind manipulating these events behind the scenes.

From the federation’s perspective, forcing that mastermind into the open prematurely might be the only remedy to break the current deadlock.

No—perhaps it was not a remedy, but a poison.

Yet what other choice did the Gallant Federation have?

The proposal put forward by Bond was, at the very least, intriguing.

Marshal Rommel accepted the proposal not due to the military scientists’ claims about the Magus Civilization securing fifty-four percent of the ancient civilization’s technological data from the Grandlight Tech Center, but because he simply had no desire to continue fighting on this subspace battlefield!

How to bring this meaningless war to an end as quickly as possible had become his primary concern.

Perhaps exchanging certain technological intelligence with the Magus Civilization could placate the federation’s politicians and bureaucrats.

Only then would Rommel finally be free to head to the battlefields where his presence was truly needed.
