Who Let Him Play Yugioh? (Re-Upload)

”Iron Knight?”

Primo frowned slightly.

He did have some impression of this monster—after all, it’s one of the more common low-level hitters, not exactly obscure in Duel Monster history. A 4-star monster with 1800 ATK made it stand out somewhat in the early years. If he recalled the effect right, it was... something about destroying equip cards that are attached to it.

A monster effect that people generally ignored—as good as a blank 4-star vanilla.

If this was in Kira’s own dimension, by now, with his fame, everyone would get nervous the moment ”Iron Knight” appeared, instantly suspecting that ”that card” was about to show up too. But this was a new world, and Primo simply dismissed Iron Knight as a non-threat, quickly categorizing it as ”irrelevant fodder.”

”During the turn you activate ’Concentrating Current,’ only the monster affected by the effect can declare an attack; your other monsters can’t,” Primo said coldly.

”Then I set two cards face-down and end my turn.”

Kira: ”My turn, draw.”

”I activate the spell card ’Spell Books from the Pot.’ Both players draw three cards from their decks.”

Kira replenished his hand.

”Next, I activate the continuous trap ’Macro Cosmos’ again!”

Once again, the cosmic space dominated the field. Primo was not surprised; after all, it was the trap forcibly set last turn—he hadn’t forgotten about Macro Cosmos.

Kira revealed another card from his hand.

”Spell card, ’Hidden Armory.’

”By skipping my normal summon this turn, I send the top card of my deck to the graveyard, then add an equip spell from my deck to my hand.”

Equip spell?

Primo frowned.

He couldn’t tell what equip was being searched for at this point—but Iron Knight’s ATK is 1800. If Kira’s fetching ’Axe of Despair’—which boosts ATK by 1000—that’d be enough to take out Primo’s Meklord Emperor. No—wait—Iron Knight’s effect destroys any equip card attached, so nothing can even equip to it safely.

So why did he still feel uneasy?

His instinct told him—Kira would never make a meaningless move. The self-destruction effect of Iron Knight on equips, and the equip that’s about to be searched, must be connected somehow.

His thoughts flashed rapidly—so many ideas in just a moment.

Finally, Primo gritted his teeth and decided to trust his own intuition.

”Meklord Emperor Wisel’s effect activates!” Primo shouted. ”Once per turn, when your opponent activates a spell card, negate its activation and destroy it!”

Wisel swung its sword, releasing a wave of translucent energy that cleaved through Kira’s spell—Hidden Armory exploded into shards.

Kira narrowed his eyes: ”Oh? Are you familiar with the Iron Knight–Butterfly Dagger combo?”

Primo said nothing.

”Judging by your reaction, you have no idea what I was trying to do. You just negated Hidden Armory purely on instinct—your crisis intuition is impressive.

But—”

Kira paused, then smiled.

”Will you regret it when you see this one?”

With that, he revealed another card.

”Spell card, ’Hinotama’! Inflict 500 points of damage to your opponent!”

Primo nearly spewed blood.

No way—

Is there actually a sane person who runs this card?

[Primo, LP 200]

Trading a card just to shave 500 Life Points is the most common and low-rarity burn spell in the game—almost no one runs it.

But today, of all days, of all duelists—he’s facing someone who did. And as the mighty Noble of the Iliaster, he was about to lose to a mere Hinotama burn?!

This must be a joke!

Impossible! There’s no way he loses like this—if he’s going to lose, it sure as hell won’t be to Hinotama! That wouldn’t just burn away his life points, it’d scorch his dignity as Iliaster’s Noble!

”Activate face-down—trap card, ’Destruct Potion’!” Primo declared. ”Destroy one of your monsters and regain its attack in LP!

”I destroy ’Lava Golem,’ and regain 3000 LP!”

BOOM!

Lava Golem exploded in a surge of corrosive red light. The energies funneled into Primo, restoring his LP.

[Ghost, LP 200 → LP 3200]

The moment his LP recovered, Hinotama crashed into his face, detonating in a blaze.

[Ghost, LP 3200 → LP 2700]

”A pitiful bug like you thinks you can humiliate me with Hinotama?” Primo mocked. ”All thanks to the Lava Golem you so kindly gave me!

Even if I die, even if I’m obliterated, I will never fall to such a childish card!”

”Is that so?” Kira chuckled. ”No one ever taught you not to speak too soon, huh?”

Primo snorted, silent.

”Then I’ll activate the trap ’Super Soldier Rebirth’ from the graveyard!”

Primo was shocked. ”A trap from the grave?”

A trap card spun up from Kira’s field, floating into the air.

”This was the trap discarded last turn by ’Card Destruction.’ It couldn’t be activated the turn it went to the grave.

Banish it to return a ’Black Luster Soldier’ monster from the graveyard to my hand.

I add ’Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning’ to my hand.”

He quickly banished two more cards from his grave.

”Now, I’ll banish the LIGHT monster ’Silent Magician’ and the DARK monster ’Chaos Sorcerer’—

_The envoy of light and darkness opens the path once more—

—Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, summoned!”_

[Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, ATK 3000]

Primo watched the legendary soldier return and couldn’t help but grimace. ”Troublesome guy—back again so soon...”

But he wasn’t beaten yet.

Primo glanced at his set back row.

Face-down: trap card ”Offensive Guard.” If the opponent declares a direct attack, the attacking monster’s ATK is halved and you can draw a card.

So, no matter whether Black Luster removes his Meklord with its effect and then attacks directly, or uses its extra attack to finish things off, he could defend himself.

And, he’d get to accelerate his draw for a counterattack next turn.

”Seeing your face, even when facing a legendary monster, you don’t seem scared at all,” Kira smiled, narrowing his eyes.

”Black Luster Soldier can remove monsters and attack twice—you’re not afraid, so this set card of yours should be a defensive trap, right?”

Primo: ”…”

”You should be afraid.”

Kira shook his head.

_”Your confidence comes from not understanding Black Luster’s true power.

Let me show you something special.”

Kira smiled meaningfully.

”The reason legends are legends: their truly hidden power.”

Primo’s heart skipped a beat.

Hidden power, beyond the card text?

”Activate spell card ’Primal Seed’!”

Kira raised his hand.

_”This can be activated while ’Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning’ is on your side of the field.

Return two banished cards back to your hand.”

”Banished cards?” Primo frowned. ”But you’ve only banished the materials for Black Luster’s summon...”

Just then, he realized—

Macro Cosmos!

Since the effect activated, every card went to the banished zone instead of the grave.

”Indeed,” Kira replied calmly.

”So, from among the banished cards, I return these two—”

He waved two spell cards.

”’Hidden Armory’ and ’Hinotama’—both back to my hand.”

Both spells returned to Kira’s hand.

”Hinotama...” Primo frowned.

Is he just going to burn me for another 500? But it’s not like I’m on the verge of death anymore. What’s the point?

”Now, I can use ’Hidden Armory’ to search for Butterfly Dagger, and Iron Knight is still on the field. Too bad you didn’t get to see that combo today.

Like I said—it’s rare for me to show up, and today’s spotlight is on Black Luster Soldier.”

Kira beamed.

”Again—activate spell card ’Hinotama’, for 500 more damage.”

[Ghost, LP 2700 → LP 2200]

Primo snorted: ”You trying to bore me to death with this?”

”Seems you still don’t get it,” Kira sighed.

_”Your intuition was sharp earlier—why frozen now?

As long as Black Luster is on the field, I can use ’Primal Seed’ to return banished cards.

Let’s suppose...”

A mysterious smile, and he flashed another card.

”I have a second ’Primal Seed’ in hand?”

Primo froze.

A second…?

”Because of Macro Cosmos, every card I used was banished, not sent to the grave. So now, from my hand, I activate the second copy.

Spell card: Primal Seed. This time, I’ll return the first ’Primal Seed’ and ’Hinotama’ to hand.”

Primo: ”!!!!!!”

Two Primal Seeds, one Hinotama, and Macro Cosmos.

Oh no. Wait. I’m done for!

”Spell card: Hinotama. Another 500 damage,” Kira smiled.

[Ghost, LP 2200 → LP 1700]

Primo was shaking with rage: ”You, you, you, you—”

”Are you asking if I plan to keep boring you to death with Hinotama? You’re quite the oracle!” Kira chuckled. ”Again—activate ’Primal Seed!’

Black Luster, break through dimensions!”

Black Luster, expressionless, mechanically sliced open a dimensional rift. The previous Primal Seed and recently-used Hinotama tumbled back into Kira’s hand.

_When the master said to show what a legend could do, he guessed something like this was coming. This wasn’t how he imagined his battles.

Oh well, as long as his master’s happy.

Once.

Twice.

Again and again.

”Primal Seed gets back Hinotama—then ’Hinotama’ for burn!”

Kira was truly enjoying himself.
