Chapter 132: Chapter 132 The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend!

In no time, all the guests had taken their seats according to their performance in the earlier treasure appraisal.

At this moment, the host had taken position on the stage in front, and the grand Treasure Appraisal Convention was finally underway.

A middle-aged man in his early forties stood at the center of the stage and said with a loud, laughing voice, ”I am Ouyang Rui, and I welcome all the distinguished guests to the Treasure Pavilion. This Treasure Appraisal Convention will be somewhat different from the past. The first round of treasure appraisal will be a competition among the younger members of our Ouyang Family to select the most qualified heir.”

”Haha, how interesting! Deciding on the family heir through a treasure appraisal convention is indeed in line with the Ouyang Family’s usual style.”

”I’ve heard about this. They say it’s a competition among the younger generation, but in reality, it’s just a contest between Ouyang Jing of the family head’s line and Ouyang Yu of the Great Elder’s line, others are merely going through the motions.”

”Hehe, let’s watch and see.”

A buzz of discussion arose from below. Ouyang Rui smiled and clasped his fists, ”First of all, I want to thank everyone for coming to the Treasure Pavilion’s Treasure Appraisal Convention. The rules of this convention are the same as always, with each round presenting a hundred treasures on the display stand. Everyone must select the one they believe to be the best within the time of one stick of incense, and then it will be assessed by me and two other senior appraisers.”

”Of course, for fairness, those two senior appraisers are not members of my Ouyang Family.”

As he said this, Ouyang Rui magically produced a shiny silver ring, and with a faint smile said, ”The reward for the first round will be this Silver Storage Ring. Although it’s only a half-finished Silver Storage Ring, the space inside is more than three times larger than a standard Bronze Storage Ring.”

”Youngsters of the Ouyang Family, listen well. Whoever can select the best treasure this time will not only become the family heir but will also receive this Silver Storage Ring.”

”What a treasure!”

A gleam flashed in Ouyang Yu’s eyes. He had already rigged this contest in his favor, and the victor of this round would undoubtedly be him, Ouyang Yu.

Ling Feng touched his nose, surprised that the Treasure Pavilion could casually offer up a Silver Storage Ring as a prize.

So far, he only had a Bronze Storage Ring on himself.

”Alright, the first round of treasure appraisal officially begins!”

Ouyang Rui lightly clapped his hands and, following that, a line of servants filed in, carefully placing trays on the display stand.

Compared to the treasures seen in the side halls before, the grade of these items was clearly a notch higher, all being Third Grade treasures and above.

However, the closer the quality, the harder it became to judge their ranking.

On the observers’ seats, a number of expert appraisers narrowed their eyes, firming up their judgments in their minds. Soon, many of them furrowed their brows as well, the quality of many treasures being too close to each other, making it difficult for even them to easily distinguish the better ones.

”It truly is a struggle to be the heir of the Ouyang Family, with no small difficulty. I can see at least eight high-level Third Grade treasures, several of which can barely be considered having reached the threshold of Fourth Grade treasures. It seems the young ones of the Ouyang Family will have to puzzle things out quite a bit.”

”Indeed.” Another square-faced middle-aged man also nodded, ”Plus, several treasures are very deceptive. Without sufficient experience and knowledge, it is easy to make a wrong judgement.”

Beneath the stage, the discussions continued, and the six younger members of the Ouyang Family also began to observe and select from the one hundred treasures presented.

As Ouyang Yu made his selection, he subtly exchanged glances with an old man seated in the main chair. With a slight nod from the elder, Ouyang Yu revealed a faint smile, pretended to look around randomly for a while, and then grabbed a Jade Ring that, at first glance, did not seem particularly conspicuous.

”Hiss!” At that moment, an elderly man with white hair and beard in the Heavenly guest seats drew in a breath and immediately nodded to himself, ”This Ouyang Yu is not bad, in a short time, he has found a nearly flawless high-level Third Grade treasure containing a miniature Gathering Spirit Array that can also be used to calm and stabilize the mind; this treasure is definitely the work of a master!”

”It seems that Ouyang Yu will be the heir this time.”

Upon hearing the elder’s words, many in the audience immediately exclaimed in surprise.

”My heavens, that’s Mr. Lio Xudong from the Treasure Appraisal Guild, the Old Master himself has spoken. It seems there is no suspense left in this competition.”

Ling Feng narrowed his eyes, a cold smile curling at the corner of his mouth. Others might not notice, but his pair of ”Emperor’s Eyes” were incredibly sharp. Even without activating the Heavenly Dao Eye, his observational powers were far stronger than the average person’s.

Whatever Ouyang Yu was relying on, it wasn’t his own ability. He had completely relied on the guidance of that old man sitting in the main seat to pick out that Jade Ring.

This was outright cheating!

”Ouyang Yu, Ouyang Yu, since I’ve caught you in the act, do you still think you can become the successor? Keep dreaming!”

Ling Feng sneered inwardly, yet his face remained expressionless as he continued to observe the situation of the competition.

Originally, who became the Treasure Pavilion’s successor had nothing to do with him, but since Ouyang Yu and Jia Lang were colluding to cause him trouble, he naturally couldn’t let Ouyang Yu have his way.

Seeing Ouyang Yu had already picked out his treasure, the other young members of the Ouyang Family grew nervous. Only a young man with a resolute face remained composed, forming a strange Hand Formation before his eyes flashed with a faint golden light, scanning the treasures displayed on the platform.

”Look at Ouyang Jing’s eyes! It’s said that Ouyang Jing had a fortuitous encounter when he was younger, consumed an Exotic Fruit, and cultivated a pair of Treasure Divine Eyes. I didn’t expect it to be true!” an overweight middle-aged man exclaimed from below the platform.

”What a pair of Treasure Divine Eyes, no wonder Ouyang Jing is so confidently assured.”

A group of guests clicked their tongues in admiration, their envy obvious. Even Ouyang Yu frowned slightly, a glint of greed flashing in his eyes.

Ling Feng pursed his lips, noting that this Ouyang Jing seemed to be a strong contender.

At that moment, he saw a look of joy flash across Ouyang Jing’s eyes, and then he quickly stepped forward, reaching out for a Golden Jade Bowl!

”Oh no!”

Ling Feng’s brow furrowed; if Ouyang Jing picked up the Golden Jade Bowl, he would certainly lose the competition outright.

That Golden Jade Bowl, despite appearing full of spiritual energy, could not deceive Ling Feng’s eyes—it was all surface and no substance, with no trace of spiritual energy within its material.

Under the scrutiny of the Heavenly Dao Eye, the slightest details could not escape notice.

”Since I can’t let Ouyang Yu get his way, why not do Ouyang Jing a favor in passing!”

Ling Feng’s eyes narrowed slightly, a curve forming on his lips, a plan already forming in his mind.

An enemy’s enemy is a friend, after all. Helping Ouyang Jing out would also be a good way to irritate Ouyang Yu.

On the Treasure Identification Platform, Ouyang Yu saw Ouyang Jing approaching the Golden Jade Bowl and a sneaky triumphant smile flickered in his eyes.

As long as Ouyang Jing picked up that Golden Jade Bowl, he would have completely lost the competition.

The successor of the Treasure Pavilion would then be none other than Ouyang Yu himself!

Ouyang Jing was still unaware of the trap laid for him, reaching out for the Golden Jade Bowl with his fingers nearly touching it.

Suddenly, Ouyang Jing shuddered, his eyes showing a hint of alarm as he looked around in confusion.

Just as he was about to pick up the Golden Jade Bowl, an ethereal voice suddenly rose up near his ear, ”If you wish to lose the competition, go ahead and pick up that broken bowl!”
