Chapter 771 771: You’re Binding Yourself to This?

Youʼre Binding Yourself to This?

Only when everyone else finished did Johny begin. Not hurried, though - his calm had slipped somehow. A quiet tension now sat where his relaxed manner used to be. Midway down the page, he paused… reversed course, retracing words already seen.

”…No… that canʼt be right…” he whispered.

Cynthia stayed still when it began. Then her breath caught - just once - as if startled by silence itself.

But now -

she stepped forward.

Fingers rose, lifting the parchment like a secret too heavy to name - danger wasnʼt in force, but weight of what it meant.

Her eyes moved.

Line by line.

And then -

they stopped.

A hush settled where noise had been. Stillness arrived without warning.

And then -

The room froze.

This time -

Not confusion.

Not hesitation.

Shock.

Pure shock.

Not loud.

Not explosive.

But absolute.

His eyes rose to meet Leonʼs as Ronan let the parchment dip, a flicker of doubt threading through his stare.

”…Youʼre binding yourself to this?”

A weight settled in his words, softer now, yet deeper.

”…This isnʼt control… this is - ”

A silence took hold, his words trailing off. The air hung still as he stood there, voice gone quiet.

Head still moving side to side, Johny gave a quiet laugh - no joy in it, just air.

”…You really went all in, huh…”

Cynthia said nothing.

Yet her fingers closed harder.

Just slightly.

Faster than anyone else, Nova moved first.

Fingers curled tighter on the old paper. The grip firming without thought.

”…What kind of clause is this?!”

A whisper of noise came from the page held tight in her hand, slicing into the silence without warning. Lines on the sheet caught her gaze once more, searching as though maybe meaning could shift if stared at long enough.

Out of nowhere, Syra let it go completely.

Out of nowhere, her voice cracked like thunder - ”This is insane!” Closing in fast, she loomed behind Nova, heat in those sharp green eyes. A breath paused. Then: speak now, Leon, or else make it clear this isnʼt real

Frozen in position, Kyra stayed put - yet something about her changed. Her stillness turned icy, precise, edged like a blade held just out of sight.

”…Youʼre not serious.”

A hush came from her lips. Still, every word pressed hard against silence. Not a question - just truth stepping forward on its own.

Facing them, Rias stayed silent instead of raising her voice.

Didnʼt move.

Her eyes stayed fixed on the document.

Then at Leon.

A quiet shift came over her gaze, those red eyes tightening just a touch. Not rage - just clarity slipping into place.

”…You changed it.”

Leon smiled faintly.

Not proud.

Not apologetic.

Just… certain.

Quietly, he answered yes, words soft but sure, as if reason lived here. As though everything else had always been noise.

A quiet sigh slipped out of Syra - part laugh, part shock. That you say it so lightly…

Frowning, Nova let the parchment dip lower in her hands. Her voice came quiet, sharp. ”Does it seem real to you - whatʼs on that page?”

For a moment, silence came from Leon.

Because he knew.

Every word.

Every consequence.

Most times, when folks agree to a blood pact -

Death came if it broke.

Itʼs more than one individual.

Yet it was their ancestry that made the difference.

Absolute punishment.

Absolute fear.

It made sense why those agreements existed.

Fear keeps control. What feels unavoidable earns loyalty.

Kyra exhaled slowly through her nose. ”Thatʼs the law of it… the foundation.”

Yet here - Nova paused, fingers tightening on the parchment, her words thinning like smoke. Not blood now. Something else entirely -

Quietly, Rias ended it with those two words.

Still watching him, her eyes stayed on Leon.

Beneath her calm surface, a shift appeared - unfamiliar, raw. For once, it showed.

Not fear.

Not anger.

Something heavier.

Something personal.

Because this -

Was different.

Completely different.

His voice came back, quieter now.

His voice cut through the silence. Golden eyes shifted, locking onto each face in turn. Disobedience would not go unnoticed. Anyone who moves when told to stay will face what comes next. Breaking the rule changes everything

”Stop.” Syraʼs voice cut in sharply, her expression tightening. ”Donʼt say it like that. Youʼre talking like itʼs already decided.”

Yet Leon kept moving. Still he pushed forward. Even so his steps continued. Despite everything, he moved on.

Built on that choice. Because the path stood clear.

”The one who would die - ”

Fingers shook, just a little. Novaʼs hands felt unsteady.

Kyraʼs jaw tightened.

Rias didnʼt blink.

” - was not them.”

A pause.

A silence sat where sound should be. The moment lingered, pulled thin. Time didnʼt move - just held its breath. Inside the stillness, one pulse refused to fade.

Then -

”It was him.”

Silence.

Again.

But now -

It wasnʼt quiet.

The walls seemed to close in, one after another. From left, then right, pressure built without warning. Above, below, it crowded closer. No space remained untouched by its reach.

Heavy. Suffocating.

Heavy, like it carried more weight than before.

Syra took a step back, running a hand through her hair in frustration. ”No… no, this is wrong. This isnʼt leadership, Leon - this is suicide dressed up as loyalty!”

”Youʼre putting a knife to your own throat and calling it trust,” Nova added, her voice tighter now, struggling to stay composed. ”Do you think that makes this easier for us?!”

A sound emerged - Kyraʼs words, sharp like frost, yet something tight pulled at their edges.

”…Or is this your way of controlling us?”

A shift in the air pulled Leonʼs eyes to her.

A moment so short it barely counted. A flicker, really. His eyes shifted without words. Something crossed them that stayed unspoken.

Rias finally moved.

One step forward.

Slow. Measured.

When she talked, her voice came out soft.

”…You think this will bind us to you more tightly.”

Not a question.

A statement.

It was true, Leon said nothing against it.

”Fear binds people,” he said quietly. ”But so does responsibility.”

Her gaze turned sharp. ”Responsibility?” Rias repeated, voice edged with something cold. Is that really what you name this?

Carrying the danger alone - Kyra said that, arms crossed, yet her hands clutching at fabric. Not pushing it our way

Syra let out a breath, almost a bitter laugh. ”You always do this… act like youʼre the only one allowed to pay the price.”

Nova opened her mouth, yet silence came instead. The words died on her tongue, swallowed by hesitation.

Buried beneath silence, the truth just stayed. It never moved, simply existed where it was left.

Leon didnʼt argue.

He kept quiet instead of shouting.

His eyes met theirs without a word.

The silence hit harder than a shield ever could.

Into the room moved Ronan, sudden and quick.

”My king - !”
