Chapter 264: The Lover’s Seal [Part-2]

The Lover’s Seal [Part-2]

Leon moved forward, his tone low and heavy with meaning, eyes locked, and outstretched his hand.

”My love,” he whispered softly, his voice little more than a breath, ”I want to do something. Trust me?”

Sona blinked once, the request not fully forming in her mind before her response ascended without hesitation. ”Always,” she replied, the word heavy with the same unspoken certainty that only love could bestow.

Leon’s lips twisted into a smile—not the one for the world, but the uncommon one he only showed her. The one that told stories of wars won and feelings overcome, of taking refuge in one when everything else had been reduced to ash. His fingers roved higher to push a rebellious strand of her black hair behind her ear, tracing her cheek as if committing her skin to memory.

Then, slowly, intently, he leaned in so their foreheads touched.

The warmth of her skin greeted his, and with that sole contact, the whole room stood still. The world beyond receded, and only the gentle breath between them existed.

”Close your eyes,” Leon breathed, the instruction gentle but with a purpose. ”And center your mana... right here.”

Sona’s eyebrows rose infinitesimally in interest, but she didn’t ask him anything. She trusted him completely. She allowed her hands to rise, fingertips skimming against the material of his robe until they settled against his chest. Her touch was light as a feather, but the message behind it was stabilizing—like anchoring herself to him.

As her eyelids closed, Leon did the same, shutting his as well. In the quiet, he reached deeper inside, summoning his mana softly, not to strike, not to protect, but to give.

Their auras started to awaken, tentative at first—a soft hum of power spreading outward from within. Sona’s mana coursed like spring water, cold and peaceful, with a cadence that was like a soft melody. Leon’s was more stable, richer, like sunlight trapped in still air, unshaking and warm. The instant their spells crossed, the two strands interwined—not fighting, but dancing.

A hum, rhythmic and soft, unfolded in the quiet. It wasn’t noise itself, but rather the sense of breath against the spirit.

A glow arose from where their foreheads touched—golden and soft, like the dawning of day. Strands of mana curled and intertwined between them, spinning an invisible cloth of something greater than ability. It felt... hallowed.

A soft heartbeat pounded into being, not his, not hers—but theirs. Shared. Bound.

And then—

Click.

Not a noise, not a spark, but a shift. As if something dropped precisely into place.

A resonance went through both of them. The kind that didn’t make any noise, but left a sense in the chest—something unshakeable.

Sona’s breath caught as something deep inside her awakened. The connection had been made. She couldn’t see it, couldn’t hear it—but she felt it. Like a second presence wrapped around her softly, a hum that vibrated just below consciousness.

A magic that didn’t speak—but lingered.

Her eyes opened slowly.

At first, there was no overwhelming change. No dramatic surge of energy. Just... warmth. Steady and close. As if Leon was holding her without touching, as though part of his soul now wrapped quietly around hers.

Leon stepped back just a little, the smallest space between them opening again, but the connection remained. His expression softened into quiet satisfaction.

”It’s done,” he murmured, his voice low and certain. ”We’re connected now.”

Sona blinked, her forehead canted in puzzlement. ”...Linked?” she whispered softly, then furrowed her brow as a line deepened between them. ”Leon... what have you done?”

Leon smiled to himself, the tip of his thumb tracing circles on her cheek. There was a heat in his touch—warm, soothing. ”I created something special between us,” he said. ”A psychic bond. It’s known as the Lover’s Seal.

Her eyebrows shot up in surprise. ”T-Tele... pathic?” she echoed, sounding unfamiliar with the word. ”What’s that?”

He chuckled, leaning forward a little, golden eyes shining with love. ”It means... no matter how far apart we are, I’ll still hear you. You can talk to me without letters. Without messengers. Without words.

Sona’s eyes grew wide, shock darting across her face. ”That’s... that’s impossible. Telepathy—there is no magic like that in Galvia. It doesn’t exist.”

”I know,” Leon nodded softly, his voice serious. ”This talent doesn’t come from here. It’s unusual—something personal to me. A gift... or maybe a connection only for those I care about.” He stopped, his gaze tracing her lips. ”You’re the first one I’ve ever shared it with.”

She looked at him, frozen in shock. Her mouth opened, but no sound emerged.

And then—she heard it.

His voice. Not on his lips, but right in her head.

”Can you hear me now?”

It was unmistakable—soft, tender, utterly him.

Sona gasped out loud, her hand shooting up to cover her mouth. Her body twitched convulsively, eyes wide in shock.

She moved a step closer, her heart pounding inside her chest. ”You... you didn’t say anything just now, did you? Or...” she breathed softly, voice shaking, ”Leon... you didn’t move your lips.”

”And I was heard,” he replied quietly, the side of his mouth curving into a thoughtful smile.

Her mouth quivered. Her green eyes glowed with feeling as she struggled to speak. ”Yes, Leon. I heard you—inside my head! As clear as water...” Her voice trembled, heavy with awe. ”Leon, how did you do it? What sort of magic is this?”

Leon smiled softly, pushing a stray lock of hair back from her face. ”I said, my love... It’s the Lover’s Seal. Now,” he said, his smile growing deeper, ”you have a go.”

Her breath skipped, her chest rising and falling as she swallowed hard. ”M-Me?”

”Yes, my love.” His voice lowered an octave, filled with warmth. ”You can do it too.”

”But how?” she whispered, looking at him with a combination of wonder and desire.

Leon moved closer, their bodies almost touching now. ”Just concentrate your mana on your forehead,” he whispered, his breath feathering against her mouth, ”and... think about me.”

Sona took a gentle breath, her head nodding slightly. Her eyebrows furrowed as she concentrated, eyes lidded tightly closed. Then, with a slow movement, she leaned forward, until her forehead came against his gently.

Her flesh sang where they touched. Her words came not from her lips, but from the connection now binding them.

”...Like this?”

”Leon... can you hear me?”

Her voice resonated within his mind, gentle and uncertain, yet close—like a breath touching the very essence of his being. Leon’s golden eyes sparkled with warmth, his heart responding immediately.

He gave her a roguish grin, his pride undeniably apparent. ”Perfect.”

Sona’s hands grasped the material of his robe, her expression aglow with wonder. ”This... this is amazing. I didn’t even sense the mana seal being created. It’s as if our minds just... met.”

Leon’s eyes softened as he took her palm gently to his lips. ”It’s our tie,” he whispered, placing a soft kiss upon her skin. ”I don’t like the thought of you being alone. Now, even when I’m on the battlefield and you are in the palace... we’ll still be able to communicate like this.”

She swallowed hard with emotion. She wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tight in his warmth.

”Thanks, Leon. For this. For not making me feel alone.” Her gaze met his, shaking fingers tracing the lines of his face. Her voice fell to a soft whisper.

”...You really think of everything, don’t you?”

He didn’t reply right away—he only wrapped his arms around her, holding her close, like she was something sacred. He kissed the crown of her head, his breath catching the scent of her hair, memorizing it like a parting promise.

”I’ll always be with you, my love,” he murmured. ”Even when I’m not here.”

They remained there for an eternity, enfolded in silence and each other’s company. The quiet between them was holy, resonating with the constant beat of two hearts now joined by magic and feeling.

Finally, Leon relaxed his grip, just enough to gaze at her. He planted one last kiss on her brow, holding for a moment as if to sear the memory into both of them. ”I must take my leave,” he whispered, his fingers tracing down the length of her arm. ”It is nearly time. If I remain any longer, the knights will suspect.

Her face cracked, sadness flashing over her face. Still, she nodded slowly. Her hands lingered on his chest, not wanting to move.

”I know...” she breathed, eyes dropping to conceal her hesitation.

Leon tipped up her chin, his hand cupping her cheek with tender pain. ”Don’t look at me like that,” he said softly. ”Didn’t I just promise? I’ll be back before you know I’m gone.”

Her lips parted, and then closed again. She nodded slowly. Her eyes sparkled with emotion. ”I believe you. I always do.”

He smiled, his thumb grazing the skin on her forehead. ”Then don’t see me off with a frown face, okay?”

It cost her effort, but she succeeded—shaky, small smile unfolding from her lips. It was delicate, yet sincere.

”Much better,” Leon breathed, voice low with tenderness, ”and lovely, wifey.”

A faint laugh escaped her lips, soft and warm. She reached up and adjusted the collar of his robe with delicate fingers, a gesture full of unspoken care. ”Just... be safe. And if anything happens, promise me you’ll use this seal to tell me. Immediately.”

”Always,” he promised, eyes holding hers with unshakeable commitment. And then, without saying another word, he leaned in again, taking her lips in a slow, deep kiss—one that spoke all the words they didn’t dare to put into words.

Slowly, their mouths released each other, as if unwilling to lose contact. Their foreheads pressed together, breath mingling in the still air between them.

”I love you,” she breathed, hardly more than air.

”I love you too, wifey.” He took a step backward.

”Now,” he smiled, ”drive me off with that smile. Not with tears.”

She blinked hard and battled the shine in her eyes. Then she did give him what he requested—a smile that was warm and genuine, though tinged with sadness. It was the sort of smile only a woman who is in love could offer, made out of bravery, of heartache, and of the unspoken vow to persevere.

Leon walked away from her, looking out of the open window where the pale blue of dawn had started to seep in. The wind outside was fresh, bringing the smell of earth and dew, of a world that still slept. A breeze swept in, caressing gently his cloak and ruffling his hair.

He lifted a hand, fingers folding in the familiar gesture she’d seen a hundred times before. There it was, a soft crackle of mana in the air—and then the shadow cloak boiled up around him like living smoke, engulfing his form completely. In seconds, his outline was gone, melted into the soft murk of morning.

Sona moved forward instinctively, attracted to the spot he’d just left. Her hands rested on the windowsill, chilly to the touch, anchoring her in the stillness that followed. Her gaze probed the shadowy landscape beyond—roofs still shrouded in mist, trees just stirring in the wind—but he was nowhere to be seen.

Not a hint of his having been there. Just the wind.

It swept in more powerfully now, the cold slipping across her exposed skin. Her hair flowed behind her shoulders, caught up by the same wind that had borne him off. The air hung on her cheeks, soft and transient, like the memory of Leon’s final caress.

She closed her eyes, keeping the air trapped in her lungs a moment longer. Taking a deep breath, she attempted to maintain the scent he left behind—heat, mana, and something indelibly him.

Despite the silence of the room, it did not feel vacant. His presence echoed through her heart, his mind still present in hers. She silently stepped one step closer to the brink, her form silhouetted by the open window.

Below, the world was still sleeping. The darkness had taken him in, as he’d planned.

Nevertheless, she remained there.

Waiting.

[”Can you hear me, Leon?”]

[”Loud and clear, my Queen.”]

Her lips twisted into a soft smile, the pain in her chest easing. Despite her lashes glinting with unshed tears, they never fell. She smiled into the silence, cradling the moment as if it were a sacred thing.

She would wait—for his voice, for his return, for the future she and he had yet to write.

Because deep in her heart, she knew one thing with unshakeable surety.

He would come back.
