Chapter 183: A Bed, A Choice, A Moment [Part-2]

A Bed, A Choice, A Moment [Part-2]

She raised an eyebrow again. ”Warm you, huh?”

”I mean...” He shrugged indifferently, all innocence. ”I am very cuddly.”

Nova breathed out over her nose, trying—and largely failing—not to grin.

But something in his face changed. The teasing spark was still present, but now gentled. Below it, sincerity flickered—quiet and constant.

She stared at him a moment longer.

”Oh, so that’s what you want?” she said, cocking her head as if she was seriously considering it. ”And you really want me to stay?”

”I do,” he said, this time without hesitation. Simply honesty.

There was no joke in that word. No teasing. Simply a quiet, honest appeal.

And for an instant, the air between them seemed charged—not with tension, but with something more solid. Nearer.

Nova hesitated. then allowed her arms to fall to her sides. Her pulse dropped.

For an instant, the burden of it all—the battle, the flight, the maelstrom of destruction—at last came to rest behind her.

The room was quiet.

A night wind crept quietly through the open window, with the fragrance of cedar and the silence of a sleeping world. The dance of candlelight cast gentle shadows on the curved ceiling beams. And Leon... he simply existed. Unwavering. Warm. Alive. Hers.

Nova breathed slow, arms crossed, attempting to anchor herself in quiet.

Then, with an arched brow and that infamiliar twinkle in her voice, she said, ”And what about your other women? You know—the ones who don’t know I exist yet?”

Leon blinked, caught for only a moment. ”I mean... I’ll tell them tomorrow.

That earned him a soft chuckle. Nova shook her head, in amused. ”Right. But what happens when one of them wanders in tomorrow morning and sees a new woman in your bed?”

He didn’t miss a beat. ”Simple. I’ll tell them you’re their new sister.”

She stared. ”Just like that?”

”And they’ll accept it?”

”They will,” he said, with calm smile ”They trust my judgment.”

The room fell silent once more. Nova didn’t say anything. She simply observed him. The calm in his tone, the stability in his gaze.

He meant it. He wasn’t attempting to persuade her with charm or wit this time. He simply... believed.

Her heart gave another treacherous thump.

She glanced about the room, seeing it again—truly perceiving it now. The carved furnishings. The residual smell of cedarwood in the air. His sword lying by the window, half-engulfed in moonlight. The bed, big and a little disheveled, still retaining vestiges of their previous frenzied haste.

It seemed intimate. Like something precious the world hadn’t handled yet. Safe.

She remembered as a child, huddled under thin covers, looking out the window at the stars and dreaming. Of sneaking off in moonlight. Of meeting someone who gazed at her like she was important. And tonight, like this the childhood dream she had seen—silent, unpromised, but somehow precisely what she’d ever wanted.

And now?

Her throat constricted.

I must say no, she thought. I must return to my mansion. Do the right thing. Return tomorrow morning—proper, composed. Take things slow. Carefully. The way a relationship should develop. Step by step.

But her feet didn’t budge.

Because when she gazed at him... she didn’t want to say no.

Then his voice came once more, gentle this time. No teasing. No smirk.

”Stay.” A lone word—quiet, sincere, unguarded.

Nova’s eyes went to the bed, then rose to him, and the room hung suspended around them. Moonlight spilled over the floor, pale silver flowing across the sheets. The open window allowed the curtains to swirl in the wind, and outside it, the night breathed softly, as if it was holding its breath.

She let out a long, slow breath, her fingers spasming at her sides.

Then she stepped forward—quietly, deliberately—and slipped out of her boots, setting them aside near the edge of the room.

Leon straightened slightly, eyes widening as if afraid to hope too soon. ”Wait... really?”

Nova shot him a sideways look. ”Don’t push your luck.”

He held up both hands in mock surrender, his voice quick and reverent. ”I’m just happy. Grateful. Ecstatic. Quietly rejoicing.”

Don’t make me change my mind,” she warned, sitting down on the edge of the bed.

”And you’d better not hog the whole bed,” she added, giving him a sidelong glare. ”Or snore.”

Leon smiled, the heat in his eyes impossible to conceal. ”Wouldn’t dream of it—no complaints here.”

Nova rolled her eyes—but didn’t shift away.

She didn’t flee. Didn’t raise her walls. Not tonight.

And for now, that was enough.

Leon sat watching as she settled onto the side of the bed, then pulled the covers around her and slid her legs under them. Her dark hair cascaded over the pillow like a spill of ink, reflecting candlelight. She lay on her back initially, staring at the ceiling, lips pursed in thought.

Then, with a slow movement, she turned her head in his direction.

Green eyes locked with his in the silence.

Not a word was said—but something came between them. Something cozy. Something true. She felt. at home.

Then Nova rolled onto her side and glared at him. ”Well, are you going to stand there all night?” she said, her voice husky, taunting.

Leon exhaled, then finally stirred. He removed his boots and walked across the room, taking a seat on the bed’s edge. After a moment, he climbed in beside her— cautious, deliberate. He maintained some distance, but close enough that she could sense the warm presence of him.

For a moment or two, they did not speak.

The darkness outside whispered through the drapes, the dance of candle flame casting slow shadows on the walls. It was. quiet.

Within, the strain eased away—slowly, stealthily—like steam on a cup of tea.

Then Nova rolled over once more, this time looking at him, her cheek lightly tucked into the pillow.

”You’re staring,” she said softly, eyes half-closed.

Leon smiled, his tone low and sincere. ”Can you blame me?”

Nova huffed, but it wasn’t annoyance—more like a sigh she didn’t mind giving him.

”You’re beautiful,” he said, the words slipping out before he could stop them.

She rolled her eyes, cheeks flushing despite herself. ”Sleep, idiot,” she murmured, turning her face toward the pillow.

Leon grinned, then reached across the space between them, fingers searching gently under the blanket until they found hers.

”Nova?”

”Mmh?”

”Thank you. For trusting me.”

Her heart stuttered. She tilted her head to the side, catching his gaze in the dim light of the moon.

”Don’t make me regret this,” she breathed.

”Never,” he replied, his voice no louder.

Their hands discovered each other completely then, fingers intertwining beneath the blankets, lying with a soft assurance—like they were meant to be there, like they always were.

And deep within her, Nova realized:

She wasn’t falling for him.

She’d already fallen.

Their fingers curled closer, echoing that moment in the market. The same caress. The same unspoken vow.

Outside, the wind sighed against the glass, bringing with it the quiet of the sleeping city.

Inside, under the pale curve of moonlight, two hearts lay side by side.

Together.

Sleep came slowly, softly, enveloping them in a shared breath.

And the long, mad day wore off to nothing—leaving behind the still promise of what was to come.
