Path To Godhood Begins With Marrying Wife And Gaining SSS Rank Skill

Chapter 698: 698: Marching Into Enemy Camp

Ethan was not even given a chance to speak before a full-scale attack was unleashed on him.

If it had been anyone else, the soldiers might have hesitated for a moment. But this was Ethan.

Among all the enemies of the Allied Army, he was the most hated and the most wanted. Many soldiers had lost comrades because of him on the battlefield, and the moment they recognized his face, their emotions exploded.

”Attack!”

”Don’t let him escape!”

Sword energy burst through the air while countless arrows shot toward him from every direction. At the same time, several mages completed their spells and launched fireballs, wind blades, and lightning bolts one after another. The attacks poured toward Ethan without giving him even a moment to breathe.

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

The explosions echoed continuously.

Ethan immediately raised both hands and several layers of translucent shields appeared around him.

BANG!

BANG!

BANG!

The arrows shattered against the barriers while the sword energy exploded into countless sparks. The fireballs burst apart upon impact, and the lightning spread across the shields before disappearing.

Even so, Ethan was quickly pushed into a difficult situation.

He had expected resistance.

He had even expected to be surrounded.

But he had never expected such a fierce attack the very moment he appeared.

More importantly, he could not kill them.

He had come here to seek help, not to turn the entire Allied Army into his enemy. If he fought back with lethal force now, there would be no point in talking anymore. Everything would fall apart before the conversation even began.

Ethan continued blocking the attacks while retreating a few steps.

”Stop!”

”I came here to talk!”

His voice was drowned out by another barrage of attacks.

BOOOOM!

A massive fireball exploded against one of his barriers and the shockwave forced him several steps backward.

The commotion quickly spread throughout the camp.

More and more soldiers rushed toward the scene while the violent explosions echoed across the area.

The disturbance soon attracted several Saint Realm experts and high-ranking nobles.

They hurried over with serious expressions.

”What is going on here?”

One of the soldiers immediately saluted.

”My Lord!”

”It’s Marquise Ethan!”

”He barged into the camp!”

The higher-ups were visibly shocked.

”What?”

”Ethan?”

For a brief moment, several of them thought they had heard wrong.

They exchanged confused looks.

”What kind of madness is this?”

One of the nobles frowned before asking another question.

”Is he alone?”

The soldier quickly shook his head.

”No, My Lord.”

”Marquise Shatad is with him.”

The moment those words were spoken, everyone froze.

”What did you say?”

”Shatad is with him?”

A strange chill spread through the group and their expressions immediately became cautious.

Why would Ethan bring Marquise Shatad here?

Had he captured him for revenge, or was there another reason?

Without wasting another moment, the higher-ups immediately hurried toward the center of the disturbance.

By the time they arrived, Ethan was still standing inside the circle of soldiers while continuously defending himself against the endless attacks.

One of the nobles immediately stepped forward and raised his hand.

”Stop!”

His commanding voice echoed throughout the camp.

The soldiers quickly backed away, but they kept their weapons pointed at Ethan while remaining ready to attack at any moment.

The man standing before Ethan was Duke Valen Ashcroft, one of the senior commanders of the Allied Army and a veteran Saint Realm expert. His silver armor was stained with dust from the battlefield while the long crimson cape behind him fluttered gently in the wind. His sharp eyes carefully observed Ethan from head to toe before briefly shifting toward Marquise Shatad.

After a brief pause, Duke Valen spoke in a cold but steady voice.

”I am Duke Valen Ashcroft, Supreme Commander of the Third Allied Legion.”

His gaze remained fixed on Ethan.

”State your purpose.”

”Ethan.”

”Why have you trespassed into the Allied camp?”

At last, Ethan finally found someone willing to listen.

He immediately raised his voice.

”I am here to surrender.”

”I have an important matter to report, and Marquise Shatad can vouch for it.”

The words instantly stunned everyone. One after another, every pair of eyes slowly turned toward Marquise Shatad.

Standing beside Ethan, Shatad felt his entire body stiffen.

He almost took a step back as countless sharp gazes fell upon him at once.

For a brief moment, he felt as though the pressure of the entire camp had landed on his shoulders.

His throat became dry while his heartbeat quickened. He looked at the surrounding soldiers, then at the high-ranking nobles before finally looking back at Ethan. His lips moved slightly, but no words came out as everyone silently waited for his answer.

Silence spread across the camp while hundreds of eyes remained fixed on Marquise Shatad.

The pressure made his breathing become heavier, and cold sweat slowly rolled down the side of his face. He looked at Ethan, then at the surrounding nobles, and finally at the countless soldiers waiting for his answer. Every passing second made the atmosphere even heavier.

Duke Valen narrowed his eyes before speaking in a calm but firm voice.

”Marquise Shatad, you heard what he said. Is he telling the truth?”

Shatad’s lips trembled slightly.

For a brief moment, he remained silent while countless thoughts flashed through his mind. If he admitted everything here, there would be no turning back. If he lied, Ethan would have no reason to keep him alive, and even if Ethan spared him, the Crown Prince certainly would not.

After taking a deep breath, Shatad slowly nodded.

”...He is telling the truth.”

The simple sentence immediately caused an uproar.

”What?”

”Did I hear that correctly?”

”Shatad actually admitted it!”

The surrounding soldiers looked at one another in disbelief while many of the nobles frowned deeply. Even the commanders exchanged uncertain glances as they tried to understand what was happening.

Duke Valen slowly raised one hand.

”Silence!”

His commanding voice instantly quieted the crowd.

He looked back at Shatad with a sharp gaze and spoke again.

”Explain yourself.”

Shatad swallowed hard before answering.

”Marquise Ethan did not force me to say this. He came to me because he wanted someone to confirm his words, and I came here willingly.”

The surrounding nobles exchanged serious looks.

One of them stepped forward and looked directly at Shatad.

”Marquise Shatad, if you are lying before the Allied Army, then you understand the consequences.”
