Chapter 6667: Heaven Protection Shield Spirit

“Milord, Chu Feng has many treasures. I don’t have anything worth offering. Actually, I did prepare something, but I was worried that Chu Feng might not want it,” the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief said with an awkward smile as he handed a Cosmos Sack over.

“Take a look,” Jie Shanxian said.

Chu Feng poured out the treasures inside the Cosmos Sack. It was filled with valuable treasures, ranging from world spiritist materials to natural oddities. There were even materials that were not available on the market.

Ling Sheng’er was amazed. She didn’t expect her miserly grandfather to be so sincere.

But Jie Shanxian scoffed, “It really isn’t much. No wonder you’re worried that Chu Feng won’t want it.”

Ling Sheng’er and Ling Mo’er were stunned. This isn’t much?

The Ling Clan’s Clan Chief smiled awkwardly. The truth was that he didn’t prepare anything. It was out of respect for Jie Shanxian that he gathered some items together on the spot, and even so, he was already feeling the pinch.

This was already the greatest extent of his sincerity.

“Little Ling, I remember that your Ling Clan has a hereditary treasure bestowed from the first Mansion Master known as the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit, but no one has been able to awaken it to date. Since you aren’t able to put it to good use anyway, why don’t you let Chu Feng give it a try? He might be able to awaken it,” Jie Shanxian said.

“Ah...” The Ling Clan’s Clan Chief looked troubled.

He was about to say something when Jie Shanxian added, “Don’t say that you didn’t bring it with you. I’ll search your body if you dare say that.”

“I brought it, I brought it. I was thinking of giving it to Chu Feng as well, but it seems insincere to give a treasure that can’t be awakened,” the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief replied.

“Not at all. I think it is the perfect gift. What do you say, Chu Feng?” Jie Shanxian asked.

“I think you are right, elder. There is no greater sincerity than this if the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief is willing to give the treasure to me. No matter what, I’ll cherish it. Besides, the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit sounds like a formidable treasure. I’d like to see what it is.”

Chu Feng’s eyes were practically glowing.

Ling Sheng’er and Ling Mo’er were dumbstruck. It was true that no one had been able to awaken the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit, but that was still one of the Ling Clan’s greatest treasures.

Ling Sheng’er had previously asked her grandfather to give her the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit, but the latter only allowed her to try awakening it. After she failed, he refused to let her touch it anymore.

She didn’t think that her miserly grandfather would be willing to give it to Chu Feng.

But the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief took out a palm-sized copper treasure and handed it to Chu Feng. “Why don’t you give it a try first, Chu Feng?”

The copper treasure resembled a mirror, but there was no reflective surface. A hideous beast was sculpted on one side. As Chu Feng took the copper treasure, he noticed the beast’s gaze falling upon him.

“It’s alive?” Chu Feng asked.

“Alive?” Ling Sheng’er and the others were taken aback.

The Ling Clan’s Clan Chief replied firmly, “It’s not a living being. It is a treasure that manifests a powerful protective formation when activated.”

“Chu Feng, did you notice something?” Jie Shanxian asked.

“I sensed an assessing gaze from the treasure,” Chu Feng replied.

“Do you mean it? Does this mean that you’re able to awaken the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit?” The Ling Clan’s Clan Chief was astounded, particularly because it was his first time hearing about this.

It was the same for Jie Shanxian, Jie Tiannian, and Daoist Starseizer as well.

Ling Sheng’er and Ling Mo’er stared at Chu Feng with agape mouths. They had previously attempted to awaken the treasure, but they didn’t sense any gaze.

“I’ll give it a try.”

Chu Feng grabbed the treasure and attempted to fuse his spirit power into it. The Heaven Protection Shield Spirit began to emanate a faint glow.

“Oh my...” Ling Sheng’er and Ling Mo’er widened their eyes in shock.

Back when their grandfather told them to try awakening the treasure, he said that as long as they could make the treasure glow, they stood a chance of awakening it. A Ling Clan’s ancestor once succeeded in doing so, but he died in a battle against the Celestial Master Sacred Sect.

Since then, no one has succeeded in that feat.

The light became brighter as Chu Feng channeled his bloodline power into the treasure.

Shoosh!

Martial power enveloped the surroundings. It was Little Fishy’s doing.

The light was getting too bright, and the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion was bound to be surveilling the area. It would be safer to isolate the area to avoid catching their attention.

Actually, the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief should have been the one to do that, but he was so focused on the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit that he wasn’t paying attention to anything else. This was his first time seeing such a reaction from it.

Soon, the beast sculpted on the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit began to move.

“Grandfather, is it really alive?” Ling Sheng’er exclaimed.

The Ling Clan’s Clan Chief stared at the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit with unblinking eyes.

The beast changed its position and curled into a ball. The brilliant light faded, and the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit reverted to its original form. However, the crowd continued staring at the treasure.

“It really is alive! No wonder it’s called the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit! I thought the beast was just a decoration, but to think that it’s alive! Chu Feng, have you awakened the treasure?” the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief asked.

“I’m afraid I failed.” Chu Feng shook his head.

“You failed?”

The Ling Clan’s Clan Chief was initially conflicted, but then his mood lifted.

Many people had questioned if the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit was just a gimmick, since no one had been able to activate it. But Chu Feng’s feat proved its value. And since Chu Feng had failed to awaken it, there was no need for him to gift the treasure to him.

Right as the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief was about to take the treasure back, Jie Shanxian interjected, “Chu Feng, since you almost succeeded in awakening the treasure, you should keep it and give it a few more tries. I’m sure you’ll succeed in due time. If you aren’t able to do it, I doubt that anyone else can.”

Jie Shanxian turned to the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief and asked, “Don’t you agree, Little Ling?”

“Um... About this...”

While the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief was racking his brain for a way to retrieve the treasure, Chu Feng bowed to the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief with a wide smile and said, “Thank you, elder!”

Before the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief could say a word, he stuffed the Heaven Protection Shield Spirit into his Cosmos Sack.

The Ling Clan’s Clan Chief was dumbfounded.

“What’s wrong, elder? Why does your complexion look so awful?” Chu Feng asked.

“I-it’s nothing.” The Ling Clan’s Clan Chief sighed. Even his voice sounded subdued.

Ling Sheng’er and Jie Shanxian giggled. Both of them knew how miserly the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief was, and they could imagine the pinch he was feeling right now.

“Hm?” Chu Feng suddenly sensed something and narrowed his eyes. He quickly turned to the Ling Clan’s Clan Chief.
