The Shadow of Great Britain

408: Chapter 235 Job Recruitment Notice (4K) 408: Chapter 235 Job Recruitment Notice (4K) “After the Westminster Union revealed the cruel retaliatory actions of the Russians following the fall of Warsaw, the Foreign Secretary Viscount Palmerston made another significant statement in the House of Commons regarding the Polish issue,”

Viscount Palmerston: “The current Emperor of Russia is a highly noble-minded person.

If on certain occasions the Russian Government has been overly brutal to the Poles, we might consider this a proof that the Emperor’s authority was overlooked.

In those instances, the Emperor was influenced by some autocrats within the court, not by his own volitions.

Moreover, the Poles should have sought a more appropriate solution before matters escalated to military conflicts instead of choosing to overthrow the Emperor.

I might even go as far as to say that the Poles were the aggressors, as they were the ones who initiated the struggle.”

“House of Commons Member Bernie Harrison fiercely criticized the Foreign Office’s decision: Palmerston’s words bring shame to Britain!

Our mission is to defend liberty!”

“In a strong protest, Mr.

Harrison visited the residence of a Polish lady after the parliamentary session was adjourned, where he expressed his sympathies and engaged in an enthusiastic consolation activity,”

“Reliable sources reported that Mr.

Harrison’s funding for Poland began in August,”

“According to the lady’s statement: Mr.

Harrison’s funding totaled nine instances, lasting five to ten minutes each, and each sponsorship amount varied from eight to twelve shillings,”

“Viscount Palmerston publicly mocked: ‘Harrison is a true representation of the Tory Party, all talk but can only last five minutes when it really counts,’”

“A source who wished to remain anonymous disclosed that the former High Chancellor Earl Eldon was extremely furious with the conduct of his party members,”

“Former Naval Minister Crook stated: ‘Harrison’s actions bring disgrace to our entire party, he must resign immediately,’”

“Sir Peel convened an emergency meeting of the Tory Party at the White Club, where a resolution was unanimously passed to immediately revoke all of Harrison’s party positions,”

“Bernie Harrison officially issued a resignation statement and submitted his resignation to the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee while announcing his resignation from his parliamentary seat,”

“Exeter Bishop condemned the increasingly corrupt social atmosphere: ‘London is becoming Hell itself!’”

Exeter Bishop: “The tale of Bernie Harrison is just the tip of the iceberg in this sinful society.

To my knowledge, there are as many as eighty thousand women in London engaged in the business of selling their bodies!

The number of drunken patrons of prostitution is even higher!

The decline of church spirit means the beautiful, serene old England is gone forever.

I am here calling on the faithful to spend half an hour each day reading the ‘Bible,’ as only this can suppress the sin lurking in their hearts.”

“A reporter from the London City Mission Magazine specifically went to Scotland Yard to conduct an investigative interview about the shocking number of prostitutes,”

Greater London Police Department spokesperson Inspector Arthur Hastings responded: “I believe the Exeter Bishop’s appeal stems from a genuine intention to uphold public morals, but His Excellency’s view on the number of prostitutes greatly differs from the statistics at Scotland Yard.

If what the Bishop says were true, then among the females in London aged 15-50, one in every five would be a prostitute, which is clearly exaggerated.

According to Scotland Yard’s statistics and preliminary estimates, we believe the current number of prostitutes in London should be around eight to ten thousand.”

“The House of Lords bishops continued to pressure the Home Office through the Harrison incident, and the Home Secretary Viscount Melbourne demanded that Scotland Yard keep up the cleanup operation against such phenomena,”

Arthur sat in the corner of the café, watching Fiona lay the newspapers of the past few days before him one by one.

Fiona looked somewhat angry; she complained, “Mr.

Hastings, what exactly is going on here?

Reasonably, after we had settled Bernie Harrison’s matter, you should at least allow us a few days of peace.

How come no sooner is one issue resolved than another arises?

After Scotland Yard sweeps through the members of Parliament, how come they start targeting us poor, defenseless women who are alone and unsupported?”

Arthur also felt somewhat remorseful towards Fiona; after all, he hadn’t anticipated that the Exeter Bishop would suddenly come into the picture.

He said, “I’m sorry, Fiona; I hadn’t planned to ruin your business.

I assure you, it was purely coincidental.

However, since the bishops have made their request, Scotland Yard must comply.

For your safety, I’d advise you keep your lovely ladies away from Clermont Gardens by the Thames, the Woolwich Park in Greenwich, and the Haybury Barn Gardens during this period.

Additionally, I regret to inform you that Alhambra Music Hall and the bars, music halls, and clubs on Malt Street have all been included under close surveillance.”

Upon hearing this, Fiona sharply inhaled; even her usually large eyes appeared larger than usual: “Mr.

Hastings, is Scotland Yard locking down all the major flow areas for sales in the West District?”

Arthur smiled and nodded, “I remember you talking about Eugenie from the Chelsea District before, if I am not mistaken, many of her girls are active in these areas, aren’t they?

This is a return for the Harrison case, Fiona.

In this matter, it’s not just me, all the officers at Scotland Yard are very grateful to you.”
