Empire Rising: Spain

There is no need to inform the overseas nobility that is far away, but the results of the meeting will be made public to all nobles, so those who did not participate in this rebellion can be completely reassured.

On the morning of November 9th, the meeting of the Royal Council officially began.

This meeting gathered the vast majority of Spanish nobles, including dozens of Grand Dukes of honor, hundreds of historically prestigious nobles, and a large number of Marquises and Earls.

The Barons were completely overlooked in such a meeting venue; they could only sit in the far corners of the meeting, merely listening, without the right to speak.

The number of Spanish nobility is extraordinarily high. Even though nearly a hundred nobles were involved in this rebellion, there are still nearly a thousand unaffected Spanish nobles.

The total number of nobles attending this meeting amounted to 600, and the land these 600 held was more than that held by Spanish farmers.

It’s no exaggeration to say that the wealth possessed by these people inside the venue is more than that of all other people outside the venue in Spain.

This is also the best manifestation of a nation’s wealth being concentrated among a few; the Spanish nobility, as a class reaching a peak of only a thousand, has wealth beyond ordinary estimation.

Even those inconspicuous Barons within the meeting, whose wealth seems insignificant relative to other nobles, yet to commoners, it’s wealth a family could never earn in a lifetime.

Around eight-thirty, with a group of guards lined up outside the meeting venue, Carlo officially arrived at the meeting place.

Accompanied by Duke Serrano, Earl Canovas, Duke Jacopo, among others, Carlo went straight to the center of the venue.

There was a podium that rose nearly a meter above the ground, already placed with the items Carlo would address in the meeting.

After stepping onto the podium, Carlo did not rush to speak but swept his plain gaze around all the nobles, and after most lowered their heads in tension, Carlo slowly opened his mouth to say:

“Everyone, Spain has recently experienced a shocking event. Among the nobles I trusted, someone betrayed me, wanting to collaborate with the Bourbon family to overthrow my rule.

To oppose me, they did not hesitate to incite a worker’s march involving tens of thousands, causing conflicts between workers and the government.

This incident has caused immeasurable damage to Spain, further intensifying the populace’s suspicion and animosity towards the government.

It’s simply unimaginable that there are such parasites and degenerates among the noble class I trust. If this event hadn’t occurred, how long would they have continued to lurk among you?

Please tell me, my trusted nobles, are you still loyal to me?”

“Willing to shed the last drop of blood for His Majesty.” Duke Serrano promptly stood out, loudly proclaiming his vow.

The rest of the nobles were not foolish; they followed Duke Serrano in loudly proclaiming as well.

Carlo nodded, a smile appearing on his face, as he said: “Of course, I believe in you. Everyone, this incident was merely an accident but it allowed us to discover some parasites and degenerates among the nobility.

As long as they are cleared out, the noble class is still trusted by me, certainly an indispensable presence in this country.

Now, let us discuss how to handle these parasites and degenerates, and how to prevent such parasites and degenerates from reappearing and undermining the prestige and status of the entire noble class.”

Most of the proposals for handling these rebellious nobles have already been determined. For example, their titles will be stripped, their properties will be seized, etc.

What these nobles will discuss is the handling of these rebellious nobles—execution or imprisonment, whom to execute, whom to imprison, all should be decided by these nobles voting.

The reason for having these nobles participate in voting is to show them the consequences of opposing Carlo’s rule. Carlo naturally trusts the noble class and is willing to reuse the noble class.

But all this is premised on Spanish nobles being willing to submit to Carlo’s rule, maintaining loyalty to Carlo.

Many nobles understand this, so in the upcoming voting, they overwhelmingly chose to severely deal with the rebellious nobles.

Anyway, Carlo has set the tone before the meeting begins, that these rebellious nobles are just parasites and calamities among the nobles; they do not represent the noble class itself.

This also means that the liquidation of rebellious nobles will not affect other nobles. As long as the nobles did not participate in this rebellion, they are safe and will not be affected at all.

The final voting result made Carlo very satisfied.

More than 600 nobles attended this meeting, and the vast majority agreed to severe penalties. The rest mostly forfeited their voting rights, given the intricate relationships and familial connections among nobles.

Upon obtaining the final voting result, Carlo’s face showed no change in expression, as if indifferent he said: “Alright, according to the results of everyone’s votes, the punishment for these rebellious nobles will be severe.

In that case, I announce as King of Spain, that the titles of all nobles involved in the rebellion and their families are abolished, the properties of rebellious nobles and their families are seized, and all rebellious nobles and their families are imprisoned.
