Empire Rising: Spain

Chapter 193: Chapter 47: Golden Mountain 2

In addition, the monks and guards inside the Temple also need to be dealt with, so that they can excavate the treasure without any scruples.

Also, a portion of the force is needed to deal with the worshippers who come to pray. If a large number of Indians are drawn to watch, even if the treasure is unearthed, it would be impossible to leave India with it under everyone’s gaze.

It might be cruel to the Indians, but there’s no other way. Does this Temple indeed house the legendary treasure?

To avoid drawing attention and alerting the British Colonial Government, any Indians approaching the Temple subsequently cannot leave alive.

This treasure excavation mission is far from simple. To ensure all personnel can safely return to Spain, traps have already been laid for the British during the journey from Spain to India.

Most of these operatives do not bear Spanish characteristics and can only be roughly identified as Europeans. Some even look more like Britons and Frenchmen, which is another trap for the British.

Moreover, when communicating with the local Indian villagers, all operatives use English and French.

Even if the Indians don’t understand English, it doesn’t matter. After all, this is a British colony, surely there will be Indians who understand English.

The third trap is the escape route after excavating the treasure. The operatives will not retreat directly to Spain; instead, they will divide the treasure into several batches, heading to the Philippines, Singapore, and Australia respectively.

Later, they will disguise themselves as merchant ships from different countries, and after sailing through various convoluted routes, they will briefly stop in Spain before heading to different countries.

Under the confusion of these three traps, the British would not be able to find sufficient evidence to indicate that the force excavating the treasure originated from Spain.

As long as there is no sufficient evidence, even if the British know in their hearts that it was the Spaniards, they cannot do anything.

Diplomatically, enough evidence is needed to accuse a country. If the British lack sufficient evidence, even if they accuse the Spanish Government, the Spanish Government would not worry at all.

Unless the British are willing to go to war with the Spanish Government, such baseless accusations would not affect the Spanish Government.

These operatives sneak back along the original route and regroup with the main force.

Once the specific location of the treasure is determined, the subsequent actions are actually quite simple.

All operatives were divided into two groups, the main force entered the Temple to excavate the treasure, and used the prepared transport tools to move it elsewhere.

The remainder stayed outside the Temple to deal with Indians coming to the Temple, buying more time for the team inside.

To avoid attracting the attention of the Indians and the British Colonial Government, the time allowed for digging treasure is a maximum of 24 hours. After 24 hours, regardless of whether all the treasure has been moved, the operatives cannot remain inside the Temple.

It’s still that somewhat shabby building, and the drowsy guards in front of it.

The official operation has begun, and the operatives wouldn’t be courteous to these guards and monks inside the Temple.

Every patrol team encountered was eliminated by the operatives, leaving no survivors.

Under the cover of night, several operatives quietly approached the backs of the dilapidated building’s guards, who were too sleepy to notice any movement.

A gentle swipe of the dagger across their throats, and the guards fell like limp bodies.

Thanks to prior reconnaissance of the Temple’s interior, there was almost no defensive force inside except for these guards.

So, after dealing with these guards, the operatives rushed into the dilapidated building, searching for the fabled treasure.

The contrast was striking. The building’s exterior was so rundown, it seemed about to collapse.

But inside, one statue after another was surprisingly well-maintained, barely any dust on them.

“Spread out and check everything. Don’t miss any clues. Report immediately if you find anything. I feel we’re very close to discovering the treasure,” Major in charge commanded.

The group nodded slightly and began to disperse in search of the treasure’s traces.

The soldiers assembled by the government clearly lacked experience, meticulously checking every tile and gap.

In contrast, the intelligence operatives from the Royal Security Intelligence Bureau were visibly more seasoned, starting to search for possible basement entrances or various mechanisms.

Common sense dictates that the treasure is unlikely to be hidden aboveground. It’s more likely buried underground or in a basement.

Finding the mechanism or entrance leading to the basement would reveal the treasure’s hiding place. As for extracting the treasure, that’s a task for the soldiers.

While they couldn’t carry heavy weapons, they had mini explosives. If they couldn’t find an entrance, they could blast open the building in search of treasure.

The nearest city to the Temple was several kilometers away. If only mini explosives were used, even if explosions were heard, it was unlikely for the Indians to immediately suspect the Temple.
