Chapter 402: Chapter 209: Eighth Grade Bloodline (Part 2)

...

The manor’s side room.

Shen Chongming paced back and forth with a grave expression.

Currently, both his father and grandfather of the Shen Family were in retreat ever since the Southern Border cultivators appeared, with grandfather remaining unseen in the Black Water Pavilion.

Many troublesome issues have arisen, forcing him to consult with his third uncle and aunt.

Yet, his aunt Wei Qiuling was about to give birth, and Shen Chongming didn’t want them to exhaust themselves further.

”Squeak—”

The door to the side room opened.

Shen Wen’an supported Wei Qiuling as they entered.

Shen Chongming turned around hurriedly, bowing and greeting, ”Aunt, please don’t strain yourself in such a condition.”

Wei Qiuling sat down with a smile, her stomach round and pronounced, ”In times of crisis, it’s unfair to place all the burdens on you alone.”

Gratefully, Shen Chongming bowed and then turned to Shen Wen’an, bowing, ”I heard that uncle made a breakthrough recently?”

This perhaps was the only good news since the Void Combination Corridor Array had been broken.

Shen Wen’an had successfully reached the Late Stage of Fetal Breathing, a step closer to the Sword Immortal Realm.

Shen Wen’an smiled faintly and nodded, ”This breakthrough provides the Shen Family with added assurance.”

”As long as it’s not someone at the Golden Core Realm, I am confident in repelling them.”

Hearing this, Shen Chongming’s expression brightened, followed by a sigh.

”Without the Southern Border troubles, the Shen Family with my uncle, father, and myself would easily be a prominent Fetal Breathing Family in Yangnao Land, holding an esteemed position. Even in Danzhou, with Aunt and the support from Luoxia Mountain, the Shen Family would stand its ground.”

”But the Southern Border incidents escalate viciously.”

”In just two months, Yangnao Land has become littered with corpses, human lives have become as insignificant as weeds, slaughtered at will.”

”Those beasts from the Southern Border mockingly refer to the common people of Yangnao Land as ’resources’, ’blood food’, ’two-legged sheep’!”

Shen Chongming felt a surge of anger.

Yet he was deeply helpless within.

Grandfather Shen Yuan once taught that one should strive for self-betterment in hardship and seek the well-being of the world in prosperity.

Now, the Shen Family struggles even for their own survival, leaving no room to care for the other common people’s lives.

”Have those Southern Border cultivators still been harassing the villages within our Shen Family’s domain?”

Wei Qiuling leaned back slightly in her chair, gently stroking her pregnant belly as she inquired.

Shen Chongming nodded, ”I have dispatched numerous cultivators, sending Chonghong and You’Er to various borders.”

”Currently, only Li’Er remains at the Black Water Pavilion to cultivate.”

”As for Grandfather...”

Mentioning the Black Water Pavilion, his thoughts returned to his grandfather.

Information brought by Shen Li hinted at a significant price paid by his grandfather to handle this crisis.

Now, he forbids anyone from disturbing the Black Water Pavilion, leaving Shen Li to communicate, likely to keep others from worrying.

”Don’t trouble yourself with your grandfather’s matters now.”

”If manpower is lacking, you can find Chongxuan to transfer some Literary Dao cultivators to assist.”

Shen Wen’an spoke after pondering for a moment.

Before the Southern Border invasion, the Shen Family had already pulled back all its forces.

Now, in Yunshui City alone, there are three thousand Literary Dao cultivators.

These three thousand Literary Dao cultivators should’ve been a formidable power.

However, the Southern Border demons’ ravages in Yangnao Land severely drained the Literary Qi painstakingly accumulated in this region.

The strength of the Literary Dao cultivators was greatly compromised.

Fortunately, the brothers foresaw this and had previously encouraged these Literary Dao cultivators to train in sword skills, preserving part of their combat capability.

”I understand, Uncle.”

”Uncle, I have a thought that I wish to consult with you and Aunt.”

After some hesitation, Shen Chongming finally sought to voice a matter he had pondered for a long time.

”Please, speak your mind.”

Wei Qiuling said softly.

Shen Chongming gathered his thoughts and spoke with determination, ”I wish to pass the preliminary volume of the Body Refining technique ’Azure Dragon Force’, along with some Immortal Daoist techniques, even the sword skill Uncle recently created for the Literary Dao cultivators, to the common people under our rule.”

Hearing this, Shen Wen’an glanced at Wei Qiuling.

A look of confusion was shared between their eyes.

The principle that techniques couldn’t be carelessly imparted was an unspoken rule in the cultivation realm.

The resources for cultivation in this world were limited; even the spiritual qi between heaven and earth could run dry.

Teaching the common people would inevitably lead to a waste of spiritual resources.

By then, squandering a vast amount of resources to create a thousand, even ten thousand Early Stage Qi Cultivators, would be far less valuable than a single Fetal Breathing Realm cultivator.

After all, no matter how strengthened, cannon fodder remains cannon fodder.

Both Shen Wen’an and Wei Qiuling knew that Shen Chongming had always been particular about the distinction between immortals and mortals. Why the sudden change of heart?

Seeing their confusion, Shen Chongming explained, bowing.

”Recently, rumors spread among the commoners that once the Southern Border demons slaughter the commoners outside of Yunzhong County, they would target Yunzhong and the Shen Family.”

”Although the four cities under the Shen Family’s rule have yet to encounter severe harassment, the commoners and many cultivators remain in constant fear.”

”I’m worried if this persists, without the Southern Border demons having to attack, morale would first collapse.”

”Body refining for strength, sword skills for discipline, and Immortal Techniques for nurturing spirit, I thought it might give them something to do, even offering a glimmer of hope.”

”Though cultivators know that even if the common people cultivate, they can’t possibly withstand the Southern Border demons.”

”But isn’t this human nature?”

A flash of insight appeared in Shen Chongming’s eyes.

He had gleaned some secret information from the Clan Court disciples recently.
