Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Revenge

The status of merchants is low, but in recent years, the trend of Martial Dao in Great Yu has thrived. The Liang family’s medicine business has been booming and has now become one of the top wealthiest merchants in Anyang County.

The Liang Family Pharmacy is located in the most prosperous area of Anyang County and boasts a large store with three floors.

When Shen Wenxing and Huang Lingxiu arrived at the pharmacy, Su Chang was leaning against the counter, joking with a chubby woman in a pink long dress.

This woman was Liang Sisi, the youngest daughter of Liang Kaigen, the patriarch of the Liang family.

Since Su Jingshan intended to form a marriage alliance with the Liang family, Su Chang and his father had moved back to Anyang County from Yunshui Town.

The two have now arranged a betrothal and will soon hold a grand wedding celebration.

”Shopkeeper, bring out the best injury medicine you have here.”

As soon as Huang Lingxiu entered the pharmacy, she called out.

The injury medicine prepared for Shen Wenxing naturally had to be the best.

Familiar voices rang out, and Su Chang was slightly stunned, turning his head to look at the two, a flicker of darkness passing through his eyes.

”Does Young Master Su know them?”

Noticing his expression, Liang Sisi asked in a low voice.

”They are old acquaintances...”

Su Chang’s face showed a strange smile, and he whispered a few words in Liang Sisi’s ear. At first, Liang Sisi was puzzled, but then her expression changed drastically!

”This...no way! No way!”

”If this gets out, the reputation my Liang Family Pharmacy has built will be ruined instantly, not to mention we might get into legal trouble. Young Master Su, please don’t put me in a difficult position.”

Su Chang’s expression remained unchanged, then he laughed softly: ”Sisi, you’re well-versed in pharmacology. I believe you can make it undetectable.”

Seeing Liang Sisi still hesitating, he continued, ”That brat humiliated me in public back then. Don’t you want to help me vent this anger?”

”We are about to be married; a couple stands as one, helping me is helping yourself too.”

”Besides, I don’t intend to kill him, just want him to suffer a bit.”

Seeing his pleading look, Liang Sisi remained silent.

”Miss, a customer needs ten portions of injury medicine, and they want the best.”

At this moment, the shopkeeper respectfully approached, and both Shen Wenxing and Huang Lingxiu noticed Su Chang.

”Is that Senior Brother Su?” Shen Wenxing frowned.

Su Chang had left the Martial Arts Hall three or four years ago, and meeting him again was surprising.

Huang Lingxiu looked at Su Chang with some disdain, snorted, and turned her head away.

This scene happened to be caught by Liang Sisi’s eyes, and a trace of displeasure inexplicably arose in her mind.

”Sisi...”

At this moment, Su Chang spoke again, and Liang Sisi’s mind quickly made a decision.

As Su Chang said, having followed her father in the medicine business since childhood, and constantly mixing medicines in the pharmacy, she was quite knowledgeable about pharmacology.

The Liang family’s injury medicine was composed of various ingredients. It was quite simple to adjust the proportions slightly for Su Chang to vent his anger.

”Okay, I’ll have someone prepare it now.”

Having made up her mind, Liang Sisi immediately walked to the back courtyard.

”Let’s wait outside, I don’t want to see him.”

Huang Lingxiu gave Su Chang a glance, then pulled Shen Wenxing towards the pharmacy’s exit.

Watching the two of them being close, the darkness in Su Chang’s eyes deepened, and he couldn’t help but smile.

He had long heard about the conscription and had guessed that Shen Wenxing was likely preparing to ”serve in place of his father,” which was why he came to the Liang Family Pharmacy to buy injury medicine.

Kid, the injury medicine has been tampered with, don’t die on the battlefield...

Su Chang thought to himself.

After a moment, Liang Sisi returned to the counter with a peculiar expression, carrying ten bottles of prepared injury medicine.

Healers have a benevolent heart, and although Liang Sisi wasn’t a healer, she worked in the pharmacy and ultimately didn’t harden her heart.

”Young Master Su, I...”

Su Chang, thinking she was regretting, immediately snatched the injury medicines and handed them to the shopkeeper beside him: ”Go give it to the customer, and don’t offer any discounts.”

The shopkeeper was a bit puzzled but didn’t ask further and directly handed the injury medicine to Huang Lingxiu.

The two paid and immediately left Liang Family Pharmacy.

”Bad luck!”

”Really bad luck!”

”How did we run into this guy!”

On the road, Huang Lingxiu pouted, seemingly feeling that seeing Su Chang had dirtied her eyes.

Shen Wenxing smiled and comforted her: ”In the future, we won’t have much interaction, just treat him as a stranger.”

When they returned to the County Captain’s Office, it was already evening.

Upon seeing Brother Huang Qingzhou, Huang Lingxiu couldn’t help but mention seeing Su Chang at Liang’s Pharmacy.

Huang Yunxiao smiled softly: ”I forgot to tell you about this.”

”For years, Liang Kaigen, the patriarch of the Liang family, has been eager to align with the Su family. Since Su Jingshan knew marrying into us was unlikely, he’s decided to marry into the Liang family.”

”I’ve heard that Su Chang and the Liang family’s youngest daughter are already betrothed and will be getting married soon.”

Huang Lingxiu frowned upon hearing this.

”Does the Liang family willingly push their daughter into the fire pit, marrying her off to someone like Su Chang?”

Huang Yunxiao sighed: ”There’s nothing they can do.”

”For the family’s sake, some sacrifices have to be made.”

”The Liang family being of merchant status, aligning with the Su family is too important for them. Even if Su Chang were a complete fool, they would still be willing.”

”Alright, the evening banquet is ready, let’s head over.”

At night, after the evening banquet, Shen Wenxing and Huang Lingxiu sat in a gazebo in a side courtyard.

Bathed in moonlight, Huang Lingxiu glanced at the young man beside her and gently rested her head on his shoulder.

Shen Wenxing’s body stiffened, his hands placed on his knees, not knowing what to do.

”Pfft!”

Seeing his nervous demeanor, Huang Lingxiu couldn’t help but laugh.

”You’re so tense, I’m really afraid you’ll strike back with a punch.”

”No... I won’t!” Shen Wenxing hurriedly explained.

Huang Lingxiu just leaned once, then moved her head away, looking up at the bright moon in the sky without speaking.

The two sat quietly like this. After a while, Huang Lingxiu stood up: ”It’s getting late, let’s rest. We have to be on our way tomorrow.”

Shen Wenxing also stood up, quietly looking at the person in front of him, unsure how to express himself.

Meeting his gaze, Huang Lingxiu stepped forward and hugged his body.

”Be safe in the army, I’ll wait for you to come back.”

As he felt the gentle fragrance in his arms, Shen Wenxing, after an internal struggle, finally raised his hands to embrace the girl’s waist.

...

The next morning.

Shen Wenxing and Zhao Jinhua got up early, following the government soldiers dispatched by Huang Yunxiao to Yunzhong County.

”In all my life, it’s my first time leaving Anyang County. I wonder if I’ll have a chance to return.” Zhao Jinhua said, turning back to look at the increasingly distant Anyang County on horseback.

”Kid, why speak so discouragingly?”

The accompanying soldier laughed and scolded: ”Speaking of defeat before the battle, when you get to the army, they’ll punish you for disrupting morale!”

Zhao Jinhua shrank his neck, looking at Shen Wenxing: ”Shi Tou, you don’t seem worried?”

Shen Wenxing smiled calmly: ”I am worried, but I know Ah Die, Ah Niang, my younger siblings, and Senior Sister Lingxiu are waiting for me, so I must come back alive this time.”

”Brother Shen’s words are more to my liking!”

The accompanying soldier laughed: ”We all fear death, but fear is useless; we must find a way to survive!”

”Kid, learn from this.”

Several fast horses rode eastward in the morning sun, quickly disappearing on the official road.
