Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Ninth Grade

Zhao Shuan saw this and didn’t know how to comfort him.

He could only hug Shen Yuan’s shoulder tightly and repeatedly say, ”It will be okay,” ”Don’t worry.”

”Yufen, push harder!”

”I see the head!”

”Yufen!?”

”Yufen!”

The two outside were anxiously waiting, while inside Wang Ying’s exclamation nearly made Shen Yuan’s heart jump out of his throat.

”Aunt, Yufen fainted!”

Upon hearing this, Shen Yuan couldn’t heed anything else and immediately rushed inside.

”Beloved wife!”

”Beloved wife!”

On the bed, Hu Yufen had her eyes tightly closed, her face pale, and her body was already soaked with sweat.

No matter how he called out, there was no response.

”Yufen...”

Shen Yuan tightly held her hand, tears uncontrollably streaming from his eyes.

Next to him, Mrs. Sun and Wang Ying were at a loss for what to do.

Hu Yufen had fallen into unconsciousness, and the child had yet to show its head, leaving them helpless.

Mrs. Sun’s hands were covered in blood, her voice choking as she said, ”The baby is stuck, it won’t be long before... it’ll suffocate...”

Wang Ying’s face turned pale upon hearing this.

”Aunt, what should we do now?”

Mrs. Sun was also anxious, trying to figure out a solution.

Shen Yuan listened and was even more heartbroken; he had considered many possibilities, but never imagined this outcome.

Given the current situation, the child was gone, and his wife’s life was likely in peril.

”Yufen...”

”Wake up...”

He choked on his words, but received no response.

”Yingzi, quickly have Shuan go and get Uncle Sun here.”

”The situation is critical, if we use some medicine to replenish Qi and blood, it would be good to save at least one.”

Medicine to replenish Qi and blood?

Mrs. Sun’s words suddenly made Shen Yuan, engulfed in sorrow, think of something.

He hurriedly released his wife’s hand, went to the wooden cabinet nearby, and took out a cloth, retrieving the last bit of the Hundred-Year Blood Toad’s Exuvia.

”Aunt, this is the Blood Toad’s Shedding, can it save Yufen and the child?”

Mrs. Sun frowned as she looked at the thumb-sized Blood Toad’s Shedding and said, ”The old man once said the Blood Toad’s Shedding strengthens the constitution and replenishes Qi and blood; Yufen exhausted her strength after giving birth twice.”

”We can give it a try.”

Being Sun Fuchun’s wife, Mrs. Sun was influenced by him and knew quite a bit about medication.

Upon hearing this, Shen Yuan hurriedly came forward, gently opened Hu Yufen’s mouth, and placed the last bit of the Blood Toad’s Shedding inside.

As the Blood Toad’s Shedding slowly melted, a hint of red appeared on Hu Yufen’s complexion.

”It’s working!”

”Aunt, it’s working!”

Wang Ying couldn’t help but exclaim upon seeing this.

Shen Yuan also hurriedly knelt by the bed, tightly holding Hu Yufen’s hand.

”Beloved wife?”

”Wake up.”

Accompanied by his calls, along with the cries from the newborn daughter beside her, Hu Yufen’s finger suddenly twitched.

”Hus... Husband.”

”She’s awake!”

”She’s awake!”

Mrs. Sun and Wang Ying hurriedly gathered closer.

”Yufen, come on!”

”Push a little, otherwise the child will suffocate.”

Upon hearing Mrs. Sun’s words, Hu Yufen could no longer care about anything else; a power stemming from maternal love made her gather all her strength!

”Ah——”

She screamed hoarsely, her hands gripping Shen Yuan’s arm tightly!

”It’s out!”

”It’s out!”

”Yingzi, help out!”

With the help of Mrs. Sun and Wang Ying, the second child was finally pulled out!

The two frantically cleaned the amniotic fluid from the child’s mouth and nose, then held the feet and slapped vigorously.

After more than ten slaps, the motionless child finally let out a hoarse cry.

At that moment, everyone in the room sighed deeply in relief.

After placing the child beside Hu Yufen, Mrs. Sun and Wang Ying collapsed to the ground.

Shen Yuan looked at his wife, still with her eyes closed, feeling sympathetic; noticing she was breathing steadily, he didn’t worry further, busily helping Mrs. Sun and Wang Ying to sit down.

Then he fetched hot water and helped Hu Yufen wipe the bloodstains off her body.

Once she was tidied up, Zhao Shuan also arrived with Sun Fuchun.

”I’m heading out for a bit.”

Mrs. Sun heard the noise, trembled as she stood up, and headed outside.

Shen Yuan and Wang Ying also followed her out.

”How is it?”

Sun Fuchun asked gravely.

As a healer, he understood the dangers of giving birth to twins.

Families with resources would prepare Blood Ginseng and other nourishing medicines for childbirth to prevent the mother from fainting due to exhaustion.

And that’s only with one child.

When Zhao Shuan said Shen Yuan’s wife was having twins, Sun Fuchun immediately brought along a piece of his treasured Blood Ginseng.

”Mother and children are safe, thanks to Ah Yuan having a piece of Blood Toad’s Shedding.” Mrs. Sun spoke with a smile.

As a midwife, she had delivered many children and witnessed tragedies of two lives lost; to successfully save the mother and children this time made her very pleased.

”Blood Toad’s Shedding?”

Sun Fuchun glanced at Shen Yuan.

With his knowledge of medicine, he instantly understood that a fast-acting Blood Toad’s Shedding must be at least a century old.

Shen Yuan was quite fortunate to obtain a piece of Hundred-Year Blood Toad’s Shedding.

”Being safe is good, being safe is good.”

”Ah Yuan, congratulations.”

Learning the mother and children were safe, Zhao Shuan hurriedly extended his congratulations.

Shen Yuan returned the courtesy, then turned back inside to find a red cloth, tearing it into two pieces.

From the wooden box under the bed, he took out four taels of silver and wrapped them separately.

In the courtyard, he handed the silver to Mrs. Sun and Wang Ying.

”Thanks to Aunt and sister-in-law today, this is celebratory money.”

Wang Ying initially wanted to refuse, but Mrs. Sun smiled and said, ”This is celebratory money, it’s a must-accept; it brings good luck.”

Shen Yuan also urged her to take it.

Only then did Wang Ying accept the silver with a smile.

”Uncle Sun, should we prescribe some medicine to replenish Yufen’s Qi?”

After distributing the celebratory money, he was still worried about his wife’s health.

Having one child damages the Primordial Qi, and giving birth to two must severely deplete it.

Sun Fuchun slightly nodded: ”I will prescribe some medicine when I return; fetch it when you’re available.”

After some idle chat, the Sun couple left first.

Wang Ying washed the bloodstains off her hands and let Zhao Shuan return home, staying herself to help care for Hu Yufen.

In the evening, Zhao Shuan helped bring Shen Wenyan back from Lu Zhiyuan’s house.

The little guy was overjoyed to hear his mother had given him a little brother and sister.

In bed, Hu Yufen was already awake.

Seeing Shen Wenyan tentatively poking his siblings’ cheeks with his little hand, she couldn’t help but laugh.

”Ah Nu, don’t bother your little brother and sister.”

The child stood up, turned his head to Shen Yuan, and asked, ”Ah Die, do my brother and sister have names yet?”

Shen Yuan was taken aback, realizing he hadn’t named the two little ones yet.

”Your mother managed to safely give birth to your brother and sister...”

”Your sister will be called Shen Wenping, and your brother Shen Wen’an, meaning peace and safety.”

”Beloved wife, what do you think?”

On the bed, Hu Yufen smiled softly: ”As my husband decides.”

With the names settled, Shen Yuan was contemplating what to prepare for his wife to nourish her body when suddenly, there was a slight ripple within his Sea of Consciousness.
