Chapter 1290: Chapter 1290: Shameless Mother-in-law

Ling Xiao had a thread of affection for Stewart Scarlett, which made him unwilling to kill her.

But if this woman remained stubborn and unyielding, then he wouldn’t hesitate to eliminate her.

If someone is determined to seek death, how could you deny them that fate?

”I won’t intervene anymore.”

Stewart Scarlett was exceptionally sensible.

”Of course, don’t misunderstand. It’s not that I fear you; I just think it’s not worth acting on behalf of that Old Witch.”

These were her honest thoughts. If the Corpse Granny had been someone she admired deeply, then even knowing she wouldn’t win today, she would still fight Ling Xiao.

Even if it meant dying in battle, she would do so willingly.

But unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

The Corpse Granny was despicable to the extreme. Stewart Scarlett couldn’t muster even an ounce of intention to fight for such a person.

”That’s a smart choice. You can leave now, but she cannot.”

Ling Xiao could let Stewart Scarlett go because they wouldn’t be enemies.

But it was different with the Corpse Granny.

Given such a good chance to kill her, he absolutely wouldn’t let it slip away.

”Ling Xiao, you just mentioned that it’s better to resolve grudges than to create them. This old woman knows her wrongs, shouldn’t have framed you, and plans to turn over a new leaf. I swear I won’t trouble you in the future. Could you let me go?”

At that moment, the Corpse Granny suddenly spoke.

Her arm was still dripping blood, but the smile on her face was filled with flattery.

This wretched old hag—who knew she could beg!

”Admitted your mistakes? Hahaha! Who would’ve thought that the Old Witch could admit fault? Do you really think I’m a three-year-old? If it weren’t for your severe injuries, if it weren’t for Stewart Scarlett choosing to leave, would you truly kneel down and beg for mercy?”

Ling Xiao sneered disdainfully, ”Aren’t you planning to recover from your wounds and then kill me later to prevent anyone from knowing your ugliness today?”

Stewart Scarlett gazed at Ling Xiao with admiration in her eyes.

She also wished she could rebuke such vile creatures as the Corpse Granny straightforwardly, without fearing authority, just like Ling Xiao.

But sadly, she wasn’t Ling Xiao, and she simply couldn’t muster the courage to do so.

”No, of course not.”

The Corpse Granny refused to admit it, but in truth, her thoughts aligned entirely with Ling Xiao’s accusations.

Today, she would bow her head due to her injuries and inability to defeat Ling Xiao. But once she recovered, she would not let Ling Xiao go. That was her truest intent.

”Why lower yourself like this, Corpse Granny? You were so intimidating just moments ago. Doesn’t groveling like this humiliate you?”

Ling Xiao chuckled lightly. ”You hate me to the core and want to kill me. I also harbor killing intent towards you. Why not fight an open duel? You might not even lose to me.”

”Ling Xiao, what do you want? As long as this old woman can procure it, everything will be yours! Including Stewart Scarlett—I see you might have some feelings for her. After claiming her, you can enjoy her however you like without bearing any responsibility. How does that sound?”

The Corpse Granny took a step back, her grin grotesque, and the words she uttered even uglier.

At this point, she didn’t dare to fight Ling Xiao, let alone with Leng Mei at his side.

Even at her peak, she couldn’t defeat Leng Mei, let alone now with injuries weighing her down.

So no matter how shameful it might be, she prioritized survival above all. Keeping her life was essential; the rest didn’t matter.

”Corpse Granny, though I am a Blue Wave Island disciple, I am not a tool at your disposal. I won’t obey your whims to serve whoever you demand. If you continue to say such things, I will kill you!”

Stewart Scarlett’s face flushed red in anger, her breath quickening.

She hadn’t been humiliated by the infamous demons but instead by her own faction. This deeply pained and saddened her.

”You cursed old hag, truly beyond saving. Even if we didn’t have enmity, I would still kill you today!”

Ling Xiao’s Sword Intent surged into the air, and even the sound carried overwhelming killing intent.

This Corpse Granny’s existence was nothing short of disastrous—a parasite responsible for the deaths of countless innocents.

”Kill me? Could you bear to?”

Just as Ling Xiao prepared to strike, two skeletal hands suddenly reached out from the ground, seizing Stewart Scarlett and pulling her towards the Corpse Granny.

”Hehehe, Stewart Scarlett, since you refuse to save me, I’ll have to use you as a shield.”

The Corpse Granny grinned maliciously, then turned to Ling Xiao. ”Does it hurt? Hahaha! Even if it does, it’s useless! Let me tell you—if you don’t let me go today, I’ll kill this delicate flower!”

Ling Xiao froze momentarily.

Was this woman mentally sound?

”Mental disorder? Stewart Scarlett is one of your Blue Wave Island comrades, yet you’re using her to threaten me? Did I mishear, or did you misspeak?”

After a moment, he asked with a smirk.

Stewart Scarlett wasn’t entirely surprised, but there was a hint of regret.

The lack of surprise came from her knowledge of the Corpse Granny’s personality—such actions weren’t unusual for her.

The regret stemmed from her own carelessness. She had been wary of the old hag earlier, but her attempt to protect her led her too close to avoid the current outcome.

She didn’t expect Ling Xiao to save her.

As Ling Xiao had pointed out, she was a disciple of Blue Wave Island, and Ling Xiao had no ties to her. Why would he save her?

Would letting go of the prime opportunity to deal with a great foe be worth rescuing her?

Did that trade-off make sense?

No matter how it was considered, there just didn’t seem to be value in this decision.

Even so, she couldn’t help but hold onto a thread of hope.

She had heard that Ling Xiao had many beloved confidantes by his side, all of whom were fiercely devoted to him.

Not for any other reason, but simply because Ling Xiao was the type to stand steadfastly against formidable foes for the women he cared about, never backing down.

It’s said that beauty admires heroism.

And Stewart Scarlett wasn’t immune.

Even though she didn’t believe Ling Xiao would develop feelings for her, she still hoped that Ling Xiao might lend her a hand simply because she was a woman.

Of course, that hope was just a faint glimmer.

A faint, fleeting, almost unreal glimmer.

”She belongs to your Blue Wave Island, true, but such a delicate flower—are you really willing to watch her perish at the hands of someone as vile as me?”

The Corpse Granny sneered.

Oddly, her self-admission of being despicable deserved a few merits of honesty.

As she spoke, black energy poured out from her body, enveloping Stewart Scarlett. Stewart Scarlett’s blood and Heavenly Origin Power could be seen flowing into the Corpse Granny through these dark fumes.

This old hag practiced an ancient and insidious form of witchcraft—its ways were almost unfathomably nefarious.

”Whether she withers or not, what has that got to do with me?”

Ling Xiao responded with the same sentiment before making his move without hesitation, his Ghost Shadow Sword thrusting toward the Corpse Granny.

Even though Stewart Scarlett stood in front of the Corpse Granny.

In that instant, Stewart Scarlett felt somewhat disappointed.

Nonetheless, she didn’t hold hatred towards Ling Xiao.

On the contrary, she felt grateful, thinking, dying beneath Ling Xiao’s blade was better than dying under the Corpse Granny’s sinister magic.
