When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 211: Chapter 207: Interstellar Deserted Star Farm Woman 18

Far away on Wa Star, Ji Xiaosong was completely unaware of all this.

At this moment, she was lazily reclining in a rocking chair in the vegetable garden on Wa Star. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, scattering across her body as if draping her in a thin, golden veil.

The light of the Star Network reflected in her eyes, as if the entire universe was hidden within their depths.

”Song, are you sure you’re pregnant?”

Rongrong floated beside her, its voice urgent.

”When have I ever let you down? Of course I’m pregnant. This is a mission; there’s no way I’d fail to complete it.”

Ji Xiaosong gave a slight smile, her voice laced with confidence.

”That’s good. Now, all we need to do is have the baby safely here on Wa Star.”

Ji Xiaosong casually waved her hand. With a gentle flick of her Spiritual Power-infused fingertips, a bunch of crisp, green grapes flew gracefully from the vine, tracing a beautiful arc before landing steadily in her palm.

She took a gentle bite of a grape, the juice filling her mouth. A flicker of satisfaction flashed in her eyes.

”It’s just having a baby. What’s so hard about it? Now that it’s just the two of us on this entire planet, I don’t have to pretend that childbirth is a painful ordeal like I used to.”

Thinking that her mission in this life was so simple and nearly complete, Ji Xiaosong couldn’t stop her smile from growing wider.

”But it’s so boring with just the two of us.”

Rongrong flew a circle around Ji Xiaosong, grumbling.

”How could we be bored? We still have to explore all of Wa Star. All these plants and animals are toxic—aren’t we going to purify them? The Spiritual Energy here is so rich—you think I’m not going to cultivate?”

”That’s true. That’s more than enough to keep you busy. By the time you’re finished, the baby will probably be on its way.”

”Yes, and if I get really bored, I can always browse the Star Network. It’s not every day I get to come to an interstellar world. I should learn as much about the technology here as I can to make this trip worthwhile.”

After speaking, Ji Xiaosong’s fingers gently swiped across the Star Network’s holographic interface. Countless streams of data, like the myriad stars of the galaxy, began to swirl around her.

These shimmering points of light reflected in her eyes, as if the entire universe was hidden within their depths.

She was most interested in the various tech products, from the most advanced energy shield generators to self-repairing nanobots. Every single one filled her with curiosity.

She carefully studied how they worked and how to use them, imagining the changes it would bring if she were to apply this technology to other worlds.

As she was thinking and manipulating the holographic interface, a notification suddenly popped up:

#InterstellarFarmersCryingInTheirGreenhouses #LatestPoll: What’s Your Worst Experience Being Wrecked by a Mutant Crop?

Ji Xiaosong’s fingertip froze in mid-air. A thread of her Spiritual Power tugged the interface, and it scrolled down from the inertia, revealing a dense feed of posts in an agricultural discussion forum.

The titles were all alarming:

[HELP! Whatever I plant turns poisonous. Is interstellar agriculture doomed?]

OP_GalacticWeeder: [Video of a charred black potato waving its tendrils] Fam, who gets it! They said these were detoxified, improved seeds, but what grew was basically a bioweapon [Vomiting emoji]

Top Comment @InterstellarShennongTastingHundredHerbs: Thanks for the invite, just got out of the ICU. Took a bite of a homegrown tomato yesterday, now any red liquid gives me PTSD (320k Likes)

MechaMaintenanceV: I suggest the OP switch to selling mecha fuel. This stuff probably burns with more kick than an energy block (smirk emoji)

FarmingBot: [Automated Reply] In accordance with the ”Interstellar Planting Safety Regulations,” please contact your star system’s Toxin Disposal Bureau immediately. Phone: ****

[Veteran Farmer of 20 Years Quits in Tears]

OP_FertileSoilGuardian: From grafting techniques passed down in my family since the Blue Star era to using every gene-editing trick in the book, the toxicity levels are still 3 times over the limit [Heartbreak emoji] Today, I burned down my greenhouse with my own hands...

Top Comment @AgriculturalResearchInstitute-ProfessorZhang: [Candle emoji] Our team’s seventh-generation Detoxification Enzyme has failed again. The mutation speed from interstellar radiation far exceeds our predictions. (280k Likes)

StarNetwork

Ji Xiaosong casually clicked a livestream link floating on the homepage. On screen, a host wearing a gas mask was roaring, ”Folks! The Space Shuttle brand purifier is at a bone-breaking discount! Install this, and your poison pumpkins will turn into sweet melons...”

”That’s gotta be fake.”

Rongrong, who had been watching Ji Xiaosong browse the Star Network, scoffed, ”So the interstellar era has this many scammers, too. If I’m sensing this right, based on the energy fluctuations, that purifier just converts a neurotoxin into a hallucinogen.”

The discussion forum suddenly refreshed to show a post made in the early hours of the morning, its location tagged from a neighboring star system:

[Anyone remember Wa Star? The abandoned agricultural planet has had abnormal energy readings lately.]

OP_StarSeaScavenger: [Blurry satellite cloud map] Although the toxin concentration is still off the charts, the ecological activity index has skyrocketed by 300%. Suspecting an unknown civilization...

There were only a few scattered, mocking replies under the post:

”Scavenging trash has given you hallucinations, huh?”

”If Wa Star can grow vegetables, I’ll livestream myself eating an Insect Race creature raw!”

Seeing this reply, Ji Xiaosong snorted with laughter. The nearby grapevine rustled, though there was no wind.

Starlight seemed to swirl in her eyes as she recalled the purple-skinned pumpkins in the vegetable garden, the ones she had purified with her Spiritual Power. In fact, she had just steamed and eaten some for lunch.

After browsing a little longer, Ji Xiaosong lost interest.

”Rongrong, what do you think about me transforming Wa Star and selling the things I grow?”

”Wasn’t that your plan all along? What, you’re going to act on it now? Before the baby is even born?”

”It’s just... seeing all those people living on nutrient paste every day is just so pitiful. I didn’t really get it before I saw it for myself, but now I feel like I have to do something.”

”I remember Dai Lixing said that this non-toxic stuff can sell for a sky-high price.”

”I don’t plan on selling it for a sky-high price. After all, I can grow a countless amount. In this interstellar age, too many people, like the original owner of this body, can’t get enough to eat or wear. Commoners are treated like stray dogs on the street.”

”So you’re planning to sell it at a fair price? But won’t that offend the powerful families? If you’re too high-profile, won’t people come after you?”

”They would only try to win me over; they wouldn’t dare suppress me. But I really don’t want to be high-profile, so I’m still looking for a way to help the common people without exposing myself.”

”I have a good idea. We can buy a robot, then place the goods we need to ship each day on the nearest deserted star in advance. We can set up a hidden Barrier, so no one will find it. The robot can handle the daily shipping, so we won’t be needed and we won’t be exposed.”

”That plan sounds like it could work, but I need to think it over carefully.”

Ji Xiaosong closed the Star Network, lay back in the rocking chair, and closed her eyes.

Half an hour later, Rongrong heard the sound of even breathing.

’Sigh, pregnant women really shouldn’t overwork themselves. All she did was think about a shipping plan, and she thought herself to sleep.’
