A New Life in Fairy Tail

”Of course, now that we’ve confirmed my hypothesis is viable, we definitely need to figure out a way to circumvent the Curse of Ankhseram,” Noah said, looking directly at Mavis. ”I’ve already conceptualized a few methods that should prevent the First Master from being affected by it in her daily life.”

”Tell us what you have in mind. We’ll analyze them and see if they hold up,” Makarov replied.

Noah nodded and began to outline his proposed countermeasures:

”First, since the Curse of Ankhseram forcibly absorbs life force, I’ve developed a spell capable of converting raw magic directly into life force. The moment the curse attempts to erupt, we can trigger this spell to counteract the drain, effectively neutralizing the curse’s lethal effect.

”I actually used a variation of this technique when I encountered Zeref and his curse erupted. It definitely works. However, there might be a catch: Zeref mentioned that someone afflicted by the Curse of Ankhseram cannot effectively cast this spell on themselves to block their own curse. We still need to verify if that’s absolutely true. If it is, the spell will require an external, automated magical power source to trigger it for her.”

”Second, since the exact moment of the curse’s eruption is involuntary and unpredictable, we can embed an emergency spatial displacement spell on her person. The instant the curse triggers, the spell would autonomously teleport her high into the stratosphere. Up there, the sky is completely empty, so we wouldn’t have to worry about the death wave hitting any innocent lives. Once the eruption subsides, the spell simply teleports her back down.

”If we bind both of these spells directly to her body, or forge a specialized magical artifact for her to wear constantly, we should be able to safely manage any sudden curse eruptions.”

Makarov and Mavis fell silent, their brilliant minds rapidly analyzing the proposals.

”Based on my calculations, if both spells successfully activate in tandem, they would indeed neutralize the threat of the Curse of Ankhseram,” Mavis noted thoughtfully. ”However, they absolutely must trigger at the exact microsecond the curse flares up. I’m guessing you haven’t actually developed a detection spell specifically calibrated to predict the curse yet, have you?”

”Unfortunately, no,” Noah admitted with a helpless shrug. ”The only two people in existence known to carry this curse are Zeref and yourself. The very first time I actually witnessed the curse in action was on Tenrou Island. I have a few theoretical frameworks for a detection spell, but without a live, active curse to test them against, I can’t guarantee their efficacy.”

”That’s a fair point. You can’t perfect a countermeasure without testing it against the real thing,” Makarov agreed with a nod.

”If the Curse of Ankhseram can be managed, that only leaves the issue of Fairy Heart. For that, our only option is absolute, constant surveillance. If we detect even the slightest anomaly, we abort the operation immediately to ensure containment,” Mavis stated.

”I’ve already prepared a contingency for that exact scenario,” Noah said. He reached into his spatial pocket and pulled out a massive, pristine magical lacrima, placing it to the side. It was completely identical to the one currently sealing Mavis’s physical body. ”I asked Jude to help procure this. It took a massive amount of time and capital to acquire.

”If the original crystal shatters and the situation destabilizes, we can instantaneously reseal the First Master’s physical body inside this backup lacrima, which should freeze the anomaly and prevent further escalation. However, based on my telemetry data, the Fairy Heart matrix is incredibly stable. I highly doubt any catastrophic fluctuations will occur.”

”Then let us begin the trials,” Mavis said, seeing that Noah was so thoroughly prepared.

Noah nodded. He activated his magic, sending precise, controlled magical stimuli across every single inch of Mavis’s spectral body, gradually increasing the intensity.

This meticulous process was designed to verify that every part of her spirit was still perfectly synchronized with her physical vessel. If a specific limb or organ had suffered a disconnect, forcing a merger could be disastrous. Furthermore, these controlled stimuli actively deepened the synchronization between her soul and flesh, ensuring a smoother, faster recovery once she breached the crystal and merged.

As time passed, Mavis began to feel a faint, widespread aching sensation. Simultaneously, the physical body inside the crystal began to react, trembling on a microscopic level.

To the naked eye, the tremors were almost invisible. But the advanced diagnostic equipment surrounding the crystal captured the movements perfectly, projecting the data clearly onto Noah’s screens.

Noah powered down the spell and began compiling the telemetry.

Mavis let out a long sigh of relief. The faint, full-body ache had been incredibly uncomfortable—not agonizingly painful, but deeply, maddeningly itchy. She was glad for the break.

However, the realization that she would have to endure this process multiple times made her mentally groan. But for the safety of her guild, for the chance to truly live again, and for the hope of finding the child she had never known, she would endure whatever it took.

After adjusting her mindset, Mavis floated over to Noah’s side, assisting him in analyzing the data streams.

The data confirmed that her spectral form and physical body were perfectly, flawlessly linked without a single micro-fissure of disconnect. A collective wave of relief washed over the trio.

Once the analysis was complete, they began the next trial, collecting more data.

This cycle repeated several times. Eventually, noticing how mentally exhausted and strained Mavis was becoming, Noah urged her to take a break, reminding her that they didn’t need to finish all the calibrations in a single session.

”Let’s just finish it all now. If I stop and rest, I’m afraid I won’t want to start again. It really is quite unpleasant,” Mavis shook her head, refusing the break.

Respecting her resolve, Noah continued. His only option was to execute the trials as efficiently as possible to minimize her discomfort.

After a few more cycles, they finally pinpointed the exact, precise critical threshold required for the neural sync. Everyone breathed a heavy sigh of relief.

If the stimulus exceeded the threshold, it risked severely damaging Mavis’s spirit; if it fell short, the physical body wouldn’t react strongly enough to breach the crystal. Utterly drained, Mavis’s spectral form slumped directly onto the cavern floor, devoid of all energy.

”Since we’ve locked in the critical threshold, please rest well, First Master. Tomorrow, we will officially bring you back to life,” Noah said, double-checking the finalized data.

”You two go on ahead. I’m just going to sleep right here,” Mavis mumbled weakly, sprawling out flat on the stone floor. It seemed she fully intended to spend the night exactly where she fell.

Noah and Makarov weren’t surprised; Mavis spent the vast majority of her time sleeping in this chamber anyway. Remaining in close proximity to her physical body helped maintain their synchronization, which would ultimately reduce her recovery time tomorrow.

”The lacrima is already showing signs of micro-fracturing,” Noah noted, looking at the massive crystal. The repeated physical tremors from Mavis’s body during the trials had caused tiny, spiderweb cracks to form along the surface.

”That means our hypothesis and trials were correct,” Mavis perked up slightly. Knowing the theory was sound made all the discomfort she had just endured entirely worth it.

Noah nodded. The greatest fear in any experiment was a fundamental flaw in the core hypothesis. Since the physical results aligned perfectly with their theoretical models, they simply needed to execute the final step.

After backing up the compiled data, Noah and Makarov left the subterranean chamber. They needed to rest and ensure they were at absolute peak condition to handle the revival and any potential emergencies that might arise.

Early the next morning, Noah and Makarov returned to the underground vault, where a revitalized Mavis was already waiting for them.

Noah and Makarov immediately began constructing heavy containment barriers around the perimeter of the crystal. If anything went wrong, these barriers would suppress the fallout. Mavis, meanwhile, ran a final review of the data to ensure the critical threshold calculations were flawless before stepping back to mentally prepare herself.

Today, they planned to hit her spirit with a single, instantaneous stimulus spiked exactly to the critical threshold. The moment her physical body reacted, Noah would shatter the lacrima from the outside, allowing her flesh to break free and her spirit to instantly merge with it.

The sudden, massive spike in stimulation would be agonizing, but it would be over in a fraction of a second, making it infinitely more tolerable than the prolonged, aching trials of yesterday.

With the barriers set, Noah recalibrated the diagnostic equipment to record the revival process. This was an unprecedented, once-in-a-lifetime magical event; the data gathered here would be priceless.

Next, Noah used Earth-Make magic to construct a small, fully enclosed stone room nearby. Inside, he placed a beautiful dress and a set of undergarments—outfits Mavis had specifically picked out to wear once she had a physical body again.

He also kept a large, thick blanket close at hand to catch and cover her.

Several Thought Projections stepped out of Noah’s body, taking their stations at the various diagnostic consoles. One clone stepped up beside Mavis’s spirit, preparing to deliver the precise magical stimulus. Noah’s true body stood directly in front of the massive lacrima, ready to shatter it and closely monitor the physical body’s reaction.

Once everything was in place, the team took a few minutes to sit and rest.

When everyone was ready and had adjusted their condition to its absolute peak, they stood up.

”We are ready. Brace yourself, First Master,” Noah announced.

”Do it,” Mavis commanded, her expression hardening with absolute resolve.

Makarov tensed, his eyes locked onto the crystal, ready to react to any catastrophic anomalies.

Seeing that Mavis was ready, Noah’s clone raised its right hand. A gentle, golden aura enveloped Mavis’s spectral form. Then, the clone clenched its fist.

The golden light flared violently, instantaneously spiking the magical stimulus to the exact critical threshold they had calculated.

”Nngh!” Mavis groaned through gritted teeth, enduring the sudden, intense spike of pain.

Inside the lacrima, the physical body instantly reacted. Noah’s true body narrowed his eyes, the golden analytical arrays spinning to life in front of his pupils.

”Now!”

He curled his right index finger and struck the surface of the massive lacrima.

CRACK!

The kinetic impact instantly spiderwebbed across the surface, connecting with the micro-fractures generated during yesterday’s trials. The massive crystal shattered into thousands of glowing shards, completely disintegrating. Mavis’s physical body tumbled forward, freed from its century-long stasis.

Noah moved in a blur. He threw the thick blanket forward, wrapping it securely around her nude form before gently catching her in his arms.

Simultaneously, Noah pushed his Archive magic to its absolute limit, the arrays in his eyes spinning frantically as he scanned her internal state. The blanket didn’t hinder his magical sight; the complex flow of internal and external magic circuits within Mavis’s body was displayed clearly in his vision.

The exact millisecond the crystal shattered, Mavis’s spectral form vanished, drawn instantly into her physical vessel. The surrounding equipment whirred loudly, capturing every microsecond of telemetry data.

”Are you alright, First Master?” Noah asked softly, only speaking after confirming her internal magical pathways were completely stable and showing no signs of anomaly.

Mavis’s eyelids fluttered. Slowly, eyes that had been closed for nearly a century blinked open.

”Muscle atrophy... my body isn’t very responsive,” she whispered, her physical voice incredibly weak.

Noah noticed her fingers twitching feebly. She was clearly trying to move her limbs, but her muscles simply wouldn’t obey.

”Is the First Master okay?” Makarov rushed over, immensely relieved that the cavern hadn’t exploded.

”Her condition is excellent,” Noah smiled brightly at the old man. ”Aside from the severe muscle atrophy caused by a century of total inactivity, none of the catastrophic anomalies we were worried about have occurred.”

Noah then used his magic to levitate Mavis slightly. Reaching into his spatial pocket, he pulled out a specialized medicinal vial and brought it to her.

”I anticipated this issue. This potion is specifically formulated to rapidly alleviate severe muscular atrophy. Let me help you drink it.”

Mavis nodded weakly. Noah carefully tipped the vial, allowing her to swallow the potion.

Once she finished the draft, the pale pallor of her skin improved dramatically. She tested her fingers again, finding them significantly more flexible than before.

”Just rest for a bit. Once the potion fully metabolizes, you’ll regain full motor control,” Noah reassured her.

Mavis nodded.

”You stay here and rest for now, First Master,” Noah said gently. He laid her down softly on the ground, then walked over to the thousands of shattered lacrima fragments scattered across the floor, meticulously gathering them. This was a priceless alchemical material; he needed to analyze it later to see if prolonged exposure to Fairy Heart had altered its fundamental properties.

Afterward, he and his clones began digitizing the massive influx of revival data into his Archive network.

Seeing that there were no unexpected complications and that Noah had everything handled, Makarov sat down quietly beside Mavis.

Once all the data was securely backed up, Mavis finally spoke.

”My body has mostly recovered. Please, move me into the room so I can get dressed.”

”Understood,” Noah replied. He raised his right hand and gave a gentle wave. Mavis, still wrapped securely in the blanket, vanished from the floor and reappeared inside the enclosed stone room Noah had prepared.

A few minutes later, her voice echoed from within.

”I’m ready. You can take the walls down.”

Noah snapped his fingers. The stone structure immediately collapsed downward, sinking seamlessly back into the earth and vanishing.

Leaving Mavis standing there, beautifully dressed in a matching pink and white dress.
