A New Life in Fairy Tail

Following Laxus’s cryptic instructions, Macao and Wakaba had immediately headed down into the guild’s underground bunker. There, on the main console of the subterranean barrier system, they found the encrypted, time-delayed message Noah had left behind.

Reading the contents of the message had instantly eased the paralyzing knot of anxiety in their chests.

Sometime later, Layla and Jude Heartfilia—having heard the terrifying rumors of Tenrou Island’s destruction—had rushed to the Fairy Tail guildhall in a panic. Upon arriving, Macao relayed the contents of Noah’s message to them.

The message explicitly stated that if the main group and Tenrou Island suddenly vanished without a trace, it was highly probable they had executed an emergency dimensional transfer to the Celestial Spirit World.

Hearing this, Layla immediately summoned one of her contracted Spirits to investigate. The Spirit quickly returned with wonderful news: Noah and the others had indeed safely crossed over to the Celestial Spirit World and were currently being hosted by the Celestial Spirit King himself.

Only then did everyone truly breathe a sigh of relief.

Having personally visited the Celestial Spirit World in the past, Layla and Jude were intimately aware of the massive time dilation between the two realms. They knew Noah and the group wouldn’t be returning to Earthland anytime soon, so they peacefully returned home to await further news. Before leaving, Layla thoroughly explained the temporal disparity to Macao and Wakaba, assuring them that they didn’t need to panic; the group would simply return after a few months had passed in Earthland.

Knowing that Makarov, Noah, and the rest of their family were safe in the Spirit World was the greatest blessing Macao and Wakaba could have asked for.

However, the realization that they wouldn’t be returning for several months brought a deep, troubled frown to their faces.

The group that had traveled to Tenrou Island for the S-Class trials comprised practically all of the guild’s top-tier powerhouses and core members. Without them, Fairy Tail’s overall combat strength instantly plummeted several tiers.

For a Legal Guild, securing high-paying commissions relied entirely on two factors: reputation and strength.

They certainly didn’t lack reputation. They had officially claimed the title of the ”Number One Guild in Fiore” after crushing Phantom Lord, and they had proudly held that title ever since. The recent, massive influx of job requests was largely due to that exact prestige.

As for strength, their roster had been terrifyingly stacked. They had Makarov, an established, veteran Wizard Saint; Gildarts and Ur, whose individual power easily rivaled any of the Saints; widely feared, elite mages like Laxus, Ultear, and Erza; and highly famous, incredibly destructive powerhouses like Natsu and Gray. They truly were the undisputed strongest guild in the kingdom.

Furthermore, Noah’s recent, highly public beatdown of Jose Porla had loudly broadcasted to the world that Fairy Tail harbored a monster of his absurd caliber. That revelation alone had drawn in countless elite, high-profile commissions.

But now? All of those heavy hitters were stuck in the Celestial Spirit World.

This created a massive logistical problem. It wasn’t that the mages left behind in Magnolia were weak—they were still capable fighters—but none of them could even remotely approach the level of the Tenrou group. Without their S-Class mages, the guild was physically incapable of completing the S-Class and SS-Class commissions that their elite reputation naturally attracted.

A short absence would have been manageable. But a prolonged, multi-month absence threatened to severely disrupt the guild’s daily operations and income.

Macao, Wakaba, and the rest of the stay-behind members could only pray that Noah and the others would return as quickly as possible. It would be an absolute disaster if they got distracted by the breathtaking scenery of the Celestial Spirit World and decided to take an extended vacation. Knowing Natsu’s chaotic nature, it was a genuine concern, though they hoped Noah’s pragmatic reliability would keep everyone on track.

Meanwhile, the apocalyptic shockwaves and catastrophic tsunamis generated by Noah and Acnologia’s clash had relentlessly battered the coastlines of Fiore and neighboring nations. Even with the Magic Council and national militaries rapidly mobilizing to build seawalls and conduct evacuations, the sheer scale of the displaced water had caused massive infrastructural damage.

To cope with the disaster, the Magic Council issued emergency, mandatory relief requests to all Legal Guilds in the affected regions. Fairy Tail naturally answered the call. Macao and Wakaba dispatched numerous guild members to the coastlines to assist with rescue and reconstruction efforts.

During this grueling relief period, Yajima, Bob, Goldmine, Jura, Ichiya, and various other prominent figures who shared deep ties with Fairy Tail reached out to express their concern and offer assistance. Lahar, Doranbolt, and several Council Rune Knights who were personally familiar with Noah also quietly inquired about their status through unofficial channels.

Initially, Guild Masters Bob and Goldmine, along with Jura and Ichiya, had intended to organize massive search-and-rescue fleets to scour the ocean for any trace of Tenrou Island. However, upon being secretly informed by Macao that the Tenrou group was perfectly safe and taking refuge in the Celestial Spirit World, they immediately relaxed. Still, they firmly insisted that Fairy Tail contact them if they needed any logistical or financial support during the core group’s absence. Macao and the others gratefully accepted their goodwill.

It took immense time, resources, and manpower from all parties involved to finally repair the catastrophic coastal damage.

During the cleanup, one particularly foolish, loud-mouthed politician had actually tried to publicly suggest that Fairy Tail should be held financially liable for the destruction.

The moment the words left his mouth, every single person in the room instantly took several large steps away from him, looking at him as if he were completely brain-dead.

It was glaringly, undeniably obvious that Fairy Tail was the victim of a targeted, unprovoked attack by the Black Dragon. They weren’t the instigators. More importantly, the apocalyptic coastal damage was merely the collateral shockwave of Noah engaging Acnologia in a dogfight.

Given that the battle had taken place dozens of kilometers offshore, the fact that the residual shockwaves were powerful enough to trigger country-spanning tsunamis only served to highlight exactly how terrifyingly, unfathomably powerful Noah and the Black Dragon truly were.

Demanding financial compensation from a victim who had done absolutely nothing wrong—especially a victim belonging to a guild notorious for possessing a violent, explosive temper—was suicidal idiocy. No one wanted to be associated with such absolute stupidity.

Realizing his monumental blunder, the politician quickly shut his mouth and never breathed a word about compensation again.

Once the coastal relief efforts concluded, the Fairy Tail mages returned to Magnolia and began their long wait.

They ended up waiting for over four months.

Because the guild’s core fighting force was entirely absent, countless high-level requests had to be declined or abandoned. Naturally, clients noticed, and the volume of incoming commissions began a sharp, steady decline, severely impacting the guild’s financial stability.

Macao and Wakaba had grown so stressed by the declining numbers that they were seriously considering marching over to the Heartfilia estate and begging Layla to summon a Spirit to tell Noah to hurry his ass up.

But then, entirely out of the blue, the heavy oak doors of the guildhall had been kicked open, and the Tenrou group had swaggered back in.

Seeing them return safe and sound, the crushing weight of the past four months completely vanished from Macao and Wakaba’s shoulders. Genuine, relieved smiles spread across their faces. Their family was home.

”WOOHOO! Man, there’s really no place like the guild!” Natsu roared, sprinting laps around the tables, a massive, uncontainable grin plastered across his face.

Hearing his joyful shout, the other returning members couldn’t help but smile warmly. Returning to the chaotic, familiar atmosphere of the guildhall truly felt like coming home. It was a feeling unlike anywhere else in the world.

”Yeah. As much as it pains me to say it, I actually agree with the flame-brain. The guild really is the best,” Gray nodded, letting out a contented sigh.

”What the hell did you just say, you ice-stripper?!” Natsu caught the insult instantly, pivoting on his heel and charging straight at Gray.

”I said I was agreeing with you, you fire-breathing bastard!” Gray snarled, stepping up to meet him.

”You’re making fun of me!” Natsu roared, slamming his forehead violently against Gray’s.

”FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!”

The rest of the guild instantly erupted into cheers, slamming their mugs on the tables and encouraging the brawl. In the blink of an eye, the guildhall descended into its signature, deafening chaos.

Watching the familiar scene unfold, everyone—both the returning members and those who had stayed behind—broke into bright, genuine smiles. This was the true atmosphere of Fairy Tail.

The Tenrou group quickly scattered, finding their friends and guildmates to catch up. The stay-behind members were incredibly eager to hear exactly what had transpired on the island. While the Magic Council had provided a heavily sanitized, official summary of the events, hearing the gritty details directly from the people who had lived it was infinitely more exciting.

Lively, animated conversations erupted across the hall as both sides eagerly exchanged stories of the past few months.

Meanwhile, Makarov, Noah, and the S-Class mages bypassed the chaos and walked directly to the bar to speak with Macao and Wakaba.

”We definitely need to pay Bob, Goldmine, and the others a visit to express our gratitude,” Makarov mused thoughtfully, having just heard how the neighboring Guild Masters had rushed to offer their unconditional support during the crisis. When your guild is in trouble, you remember exactly who steps up to help.

”I’ll have some high-quality gifts prepared. We can also use this as an opportunity to establish deeper, more lucrative collaborative partnerships with their guilds,” Noah suggested smoothly.

”Mhm. I’ll leave the logistics of that to you,” Makarov nodded.

”Still... I really didn’t expect your dogfight with Acnologia to cause such catastrophic collateral damage to the coastlines,” Laxus remarked, leaning against the bar.

”Hey, don’t pin all that destruction on me! At least two-thirds of those shockwaves were generated by Acnologia’s breath attacks! My magical artillery accounted for less than a third of the collateral damage!” Noah immediately protested, refusing to take the blame for the Black Dragon’s apocalyptic temper tantrum.

”Besides, I absolutely didn’t want to fight that thing right now! I would have much preferred to wait until my strength had grown to the point where we could actually trade blows on equal footing! You all saw it! I had to burn every single drop of magic I had and push my physical limits to the absolute breaking point just to give it a shallow paper cut!” Noah rolled his eyes in exasperation.

”Acnologia...”

Hearing the dreaded name, Makarov and the others fell into a grim silence.

Only those who had stood face-to-face with the beast could truly comprehend the depth of its terror. It was now an undeniable, existential enemy of their guild. The mere thought of its indestructible body and absolute immunity to magic gave them massive headaches. For a mage, encountering an enemy that could effortlessly nullify all magic was the ultimate nightmare. It essentially stripped them of 99% of their combat effectiveness.

”Don’t stress over it too much,” Noah said gently, breaking the heavy silence. ”The conceptual starlight barriers we installed on our guild marks have completely erased our magical signatures and scents. At the very least, we shouldn’t have to worry about Acnologia tracking us down for the next few years. We just need to use this borrowed time to train like our lives depend on it. We’ll simply keep growing until we’re strong enough to beat it into the ground.”

”Exactly. I fully intend to pay that overgrown lizard back for the ’favor’ it did me on Zonia,” Gildarts stated, his eyes narrowing dangerously.

”Damn right. I refuse to accept that defeat. It’s a Dragon, and my Dragon Slayer Magic was literally created for this exact purpose,” Laxus clenched his fists, sparks of golden lightning crackling aggressively across his knuckles.

During the battle, seeing his Roaring Thunder completely fail to scratch Acnologia had severely shaken Laxus’s confidence. For a brief, terrifying moment, he had wondered if his implanted lacrima had given him ’fake’ Dragon Slayer Magic.

However, Noah had later clarified that his magic was completely genuine; the issue was simply that Laxus’s raw magical output hadn’t been dense enough to penetrate Acnologia’s absurdly high resistance threshold. Knowing this, Laxus was more determined than ever. He would train until his lightning could shatter the Black Dragon’s scales.

”That’s right! Next time we see it, we will definitely win!” Sorano pumped her fist, her eyes locked firmly onto Noah.

She knew perfectly well that her Angel Magic was functionally useless against Acnologia’s immunities. Even if she trained for decades, it was highly unlikely she could ever deal lethal damage to it. But she possessed absolute, unshakeable faith that Noah could. Give him a few more years, and she fully believed he would fight the Dragon King to a standstill—and win.

Ultear, Erza, Mirajane, and the others looked at Noah with the exact same, unwavering confidence. They all believed in him unconditionally.

”I feel the exact same way,” Noah smiled brightly, his own eyes burning with quiet, absolute confidence. Next time they met, he fully intended to give Acnologia a very nasty surprise.

”Man, it’s just so damn good to see you all come back in one piece,” Macao sighed deeply, rubbing his tired eyes. Wakaba nodded vigorously beside him.

Having just heard the full, uncensored story of what had transpired on Tenrou Island, they were covered in cold sweat. To think a simple S-Class promotional trial had escalated into an invasion by Grimoire Heart, an encounter with the legendary Black Mage Zeref, and a literal apocalyptic battle against Acnologia. Every single one of those entities was an absolute nightmare. The fact that they had all converged on one island was horrifying.

”It’s purely because Noah is so insanely paranoid and prepared for everything in advance that you guys survived,” Wakaba noted, puffing on his pipe.

Against Grimoire Heart, they had won through sheer, overwhelming combat strength. But against an invincible, apocalyptic force of nature like Acnologia? If Noah hadn’t secretly constructed an autonomous dimensional-transfer array beforehand, the entire guild would have been erased from history.

”You’re not wrong,” Macao agreed solemnly.

”I only prepared that deeply because of Carla’s prophetic visions and some highly classified intelligence I managed to acquire,” Noah smiled modestly. He then leaned against the bar, a mischievous glint in his eye. ”But setting that aside... you two seniors did a truly phenomenal job managing the guild these past few months! In fact, you did such a great job, why don’t you just keep running things? We’ve got a lot of intense training to do if we want to beat Acnologia, after all!”

”Don’t you even dare!” Macao immediately yelled, violently rejecting the proposal. ”Do you have any idea how much stress we’ve been under trying to keep this place afloat while you guys were gone?!

”We managed to coast by on the guild’s elite reputation for the first two months, but over the last two months, the situation has been rapidly deteriorating! Without you S-Class monsters to take the high-end jobs, our completion rate plummeted, and the number of incoming requests dried up! Now that you’re back, you are taking the reins immediately! You have a dozen S-Class mages now; you guys can take turns managing the paperwork!”

Macao aggressively slapped a thick stack of documents onto the bar counter, shoving them toward Noah. ”Here! Read these! This is the financial and operational status of the guild over the last four months!”

Noah chuckled, picking up the stack. He knew perfectly well that Macao and Wakaba despised administrative work; their ideal day consisted of drinking, smoking, and bragging about their youth. They only stepped up because it was a dire emergency.

Noah rapidly scanned the documents, his eyes darting across the spreadsheets before passing them to Makarov and Laxus.

The situation was exactly as Macao had described. The prolonged absence of their core fighting force had caused a severe drop in fulfilled commissions, leading to a sharp decline in overall guild income. If the stay-behind members hadn’t known with absolute certainty that Noah and the core group were returning soon, the severe financial strain might have forced several members to leave the guild just to support their families. They had held out admirably.

”It is a bit rough,” Noah admitted, placing the reports back on the bar. He then offered Macao and Wakaba a bright, supremely confident smile. ”But don’t worry. Once we’re back, there won’t be any problems.”

Laxus, Erza, and the others nodded in absolute agreement after glancing at the numbers.

It wasn’t arrogance; it was a simple statement of fact based on their unshakeable standing in the kingdom. The moment the news of the Tenrou group’s triumphant return reached the public, the high-paying, elite commissions would immediately flood back through their doors.

Fairy Tail was officially back in business.
