A New Life in Fairy Tail

”I hear it clearly,” Cobra sneered. The exact microsecond Sorano unleashed her light payload, the sensory asset dynamically lunged outward, completely clearing the trajectory of Erza’s descending swords.

BAM!

Sorano’s light beam slammed directly into Erza’s longswords pinned to the earth, entirely missing Cobra’s coordinates.

”He can actually read our active combat trajectories ahead of schedule,” Erza noted, her expression shifting into disbelief.

SHING!

Having systematically neutralized the Blue Pegasus Tri-Men, Racer suddenly materialized right behind Erza’s flank. Perceiving the sudden kinetic shift, Erza pivoted dynamically, raising her twin swords into a firm guard to absorb the sudden impact of Racer’s heavy kick.

”Requip: Flight Armor!”

Erza’s form underwent a sudden flash of spatial magic mid-air, swapping her current plate into her aerodynamic armor as she unleashed a high-velocity flurry of twin-blade slashes toward Racer.

”Remarkably swift. Velocity is indeed a beautiful asset,” Racer laughed, executed minor left-and-right dodges. Erza’s blades completely cut through empty air, failing to secure a single clean hit against his form.

”HAAAH!”

Erza drew a deep breath, forcing her twin-blade execution to an even higher velocity tier. The sudden spike in her cutting speed nearly nicked Racer’s shoulder, forcing the high-speed asset to dynamically leap backward to reset his coordinates.

”Incredible speed. I nearly failed to sync my reaction frames,” Racer noted, dropping into a low crouch. ”However, can your nervous system parse this configuration? Gear Shift: Red Zone!”

A massive magic circle erupted beneath his boots, the initial green runic script instantly turning into an intense, burning crimson.

FLASH!

In a single frame, his velocity spiked exponentially, and he materialized right in front of Erza’s face.

”What?! His speed increased further!” Erza frantically crossed her twin blades before her chest, barely absorbing the crushing weight of Racer’s incoming kick.

FLASH!

Racer vanished again, instantly reappearing behind her blind spot. Erza scrambled to execute a rapid spin, desperately clashing her steel against his follow-up strike.

”Naïve! Did you honestly calculate that I would deploy my true output parameters from the absolute start against low-tier trash?” Racer mocked, continuously circling her position to unleash a torrent of high-velocity strikes.

Erza offered zero linguistic response, concentrating her absolute focus onto her twin blades to anchor her defensive line against his relentless assault.

Across the clearing, Cobra prepared to lunge forward to assist Racer in dismantling Erza, but his sharp ears suddenly twitched. Coiling his massive purple serpent tightly around his shoulders, he dynamically leaped away from his current coordinates.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

A rapid succession of ice-sculpted eagles slammed directly into the soil where he had stood a frame ago, exploding into countless crystalline frost shards.

Simultaneously, a concentrated light beam shot toward Cobra’s landing coordinates. Maintaining a perfectly calm demeanor, the sensory asset twisted his body mid-air, executing another clean dodge to clear the energy blast.

”I can hear it all. Every single line of your operational routing,” Cobra noted, locking his eyes onto Ultear and Sorano as his boots touched the grass.

”This scoundrel isn’t merely running real-time diagnostics on our thoughts; his sensory arrays can intercept the physical acoustics of our muscles and the precise kinetic trajectories of our spells,” Sorano analyzed, her countenance turning grave.

”Precisely. I hear every parameter. What is your follow-up calculation?” Cobra sneered, his posture radiating absolute, unyielding arrogance. Even with his magical attributes fully exposed to their network, what could these legal flies possibly accomplish?

”Hmph! We are being thoroughly underestimated,” Sorano huffed, her magical channels humming with deep irritation.

”Regardless of his attitude, his sensory manipulation is a highly troublesome tactical obstacle,” Ultear noted. While her pride recoiled under his mockery, her strategic mind actively focused on mapping a viable counter-measure.

”Every single line of your tactical deliberations is echoing inside my ears. Completely futile,” Cobra laughed, parsing the various combat simulations Ultear and Sorano were frantically modeling in their minds.

”If targeted vectors are useless, then we will simply saturate the entire sector with a wide-area purge! Small Angels!”

Sorano pointed a manicured finger toward Cobra. Instantly, a massive swarm of miniature angelic constructs stabilized around her form, racing forward like a cloud of hornets to engulf his coordinates.

”Ice-Make: Rosary Crown!”

Ultear slammed her right fist into her open left palm. Her internal magic flooded the field, unleashing a violent wave of sub-zero energy as a complex magic circle unfolded before her.

Instantly, the solid terrain stretching from her boots directly to Cobra’s position was completely flash-frozen into a thick sheet of solid ice. A rapid succession of massive, ice-sculpted branches laden with jagged frozen roses erupted from the frost floor, lashing out at the thief like a cage of whips.

”I hear it all.”

Faced with a dual-layered, wide-area elemental assault closing the distance simultaneously, Cobra remained perfectly unfazed. Moving his physical form with fluid, rhythmic grace, he danced through the narrow gaps between the angelic swarms and ice whips, clearing every single offensive parameter without sustaining a single scratch.

”Tch! Our offensive density is still inadequate to overwhelm his sensory processing!” Sorano cursed, temporarily halting her output. Ultear reined in her magic as well, her brow furrowing deeply.

However, the dense field of solid frost remained locked across the terrain, continuously radiating a bitter, chilling mist across the battlefield.

”Curse it all!”

Natsu and Gray pushed themselves back up from the dirt. Wiping the grime from his face, Natsu’s eyes instantly locked onto Midnight, who was still sound asleep on his floating velvet carpet, his chin tucked comfortably into his chest.

A wave of explosive rage scorched the Dragon Slayer’s mind. ”What the hell are you sleeping for mid-fight, you bastard?!”

Drawing a massive breath, Natsu crossed his forearms before his jaws and exhaled violently, unleashing a raging torrent of fire that swept across the clearing toward the sleeping Mage. ”Wake the hell up!”

The massive column of consuming flame raced forward, but the absolute instant it entered Midnight’s immediate perimeter, the trajectory anomalously warped. The fire curled smoothly around the floating velvet carpet, entirely bypassing Midnight’s physical form before expanding harmlessly into the tree line behind him.

”What was that?! My magic completely missed its coordinates?!” Natsu aborted the cast, staring in absolute bewilderment at the snoring youth.

”Ice-Make: Lancer!”

Gray drop into a combat stance, thrusting both hands forward. Dozens of piercing ice spears erupted from his matrix, tracking directly toward the sleeping target.

However, the frozen projectiles suffered the exact same anomaly as Natsu’s flames; the moment they breached his proximity fields, the ice lances bent sharply, veering around Midnight’s silhouette to shatter against the trees behind his carpet.

”The magic itself is actively avoiding his body...?” Gray murmured, staring at his palms in absolute cognitive dissonance. His martial precision was far too refined to miss a stationary, sleeping target; this outcome could only be the functional property of an active, defensive magic system. But what tier of spellcraft possessed the conceptual attribute to warp incoming elemental vectors?

Before Natsu and Gray could complete their calculations, Racer abandoned his high-speed engagement with Erza, vanishing from her line to materialize right in front of the two boys.

”Abort your offensive lines. If Midnight is forced to terminate his sleep parameters, the resulting catastrophe will completely eclipse your comprehension,” Racer warned.

Leveraging a velocity tier that far surpassed his baseline output, his physical form transformed into a continuous blur that circled Natsu and Gray, unleashing a relentless barrage of high-velocity strikes.

Natsu and Gray completely failed to register his approach, let alone execute a viable defensive block. They were trapped inside an absolute velocity deficit, systematically absorbing a series of heavy concussive impacts across their vitals.

Ultimately, Racer executed two heavy, synchronized kicks that violently blasted the boys off their feet, sending them crashing back into the dirt.

”Curse you...!”

Gritting their teeth against the acute pain pulsing through their bodies, Natsu and Gray slowly forced themselves back onto their feet. Their stamina parameters had sustained significant damage, and their baseline combat efficiency was visibly flagging under the continuous bludgeoning.

”Oh? Your physical resilience is commendable. However, your nervous systems are simply too slow; against my velocity, you are nothing but target dummies,” Racer noted, slowing his transit slightly. Maintaining his maximum high-speed output indefinitely demanded an excessive drain on his internal magic channels, so he chose to modulate his parameters.

”You arrogant bastard!”

The two Dragon Slayers glared at the thief, holding their positions temporarily. Just as Racer had analyzed, unless they discovered a structural methodology to bridge the velocity deficit, securing a clean line against his form was mathematically impossible.

”HAAAH!”

Natsu centered his focus, letting out a ferocious roar as his right fist ignited into a roaring blaze. He lunged forward, throwing a heavy punch straight toward Racer’s face.

”I already told you, your movements are far too slow,” Racer laughed.

FLASH!

His silhouette vanished from Natsu’s tracking field, instantly reappearing directly behind the boy’s blind spot. Raising his boot, Racer launched a heavy kick toward Natsu’s spine.

The exact millisecond his boot connected with Natsu’s vest, Racer’s sharp instincts perceived an acute anomaly. Wrenching his body backward with frantic speed, he broke proximity and slid across the grass.

Lowering his eyes to inspect his boot, Racer’s pupils constricted slightly. A massive, charred ruin traced the fabric of his trousers, the material thoroughly scorched.

”You crazy bastard... you saturated your entire anatomy with ultra-high-temperature flames?!” Racer gasped in surprise.

A colossal torrent of roaring fire was currently erupting from every single pore of Natsu’s skin, the immense thermal output causing the ambient atmosphere to warp and distort violently around his silhouette. To insulate his own system against the sudden, intense heat wave radiating from his rival, Gray’s internal channels involuntarily responded, releasing a dense aura of chilling frost around his own body.

”With this layout, I don’t need to match your speed to secure a hit,” Natsu grinned, a savage confidence returning to his face.

The moment Racer’s kick had connected with his body, Natsu had intentionally flooded his external parameters with a massive, high-density thermal payload. Even if he couldn’t parse the thief’s velocity frames, the moment the enemy made physical contact to deliver a strike, the thief’s own body would be forced to absorb the explosive heat of his Dragon Slayer attributes. His eyes might fail to track the target, but Racer’s reliance on physical strikes meant the thief would systematically burn himself alive every time he engaged.

”Heh, not bad, flame-brain. A highly functional calculation,” Gray noted, a sharp smile gracing his lips as he parsed the strategic adaptation. ”Ice-Make: Ice Armor!”

A heavy, custom-tailored suit of solid ice plates materialized right over Gray’s clothes. Unlike a standard defensive configuration, the entire outer surface of the plate was aggressively anchored by hundreds of razor-sharp, dense frozen spikes. The second an enemy attempted to deliver a physical blow against his frame, their own kinetic force would drive the ice needles straight through their flesh.

”Hehehe! You truly calculate that a minor tactical adaptation like that can neutralize my velocity? Naïve! Gear Shift: Red Zone!”

Racer dropped into a low, aggressive stance as his crimson magic circle flared to maximum intensity. The velocity metrics he had dialed back moments ago spiked exponentially. Stamping his boot into the bedrock, his physical form vanished completely from Natsu and Gray’s perception fields.

Natsu and Gray immediately condensed their focus to the absolute limit, monitoring the surrounding ambient acoustics and wind currents for the slightest structural anomaly.

Yet, regardless of their heightened sensory processing, the thief’s trajectory remained entirely untraceable.

”Your reaction frames are light-years too slow!”

Racer’s voice and silhouette manifested simultaneously right in front of their faces. Clutched firmly in each of his hands was a massive, boulder-sized stone he had scoured from the terrain. Moving at terminal velocity, he smashed the heavy rocks straight into Natsu and Gray’s guards.

Lacking the frames required to execute an evasion sequence, the boys absorbed the full kinetic force of the high-speed projectile assault, their forms violently blasted backward across the clearing.

”Dammit!”

Scrambling back up from the dirt, Natsu and Gray wiped the blood from their lips, heavy red contusions already scoring their cheeks where the rock fragments had clipped their guards.

”You bastard!”

The flames roaring from Natsu’s body spiked into a massive, raging inferno, the intense heat generating a series of violent, ascending thermal updrafts that spiraled toward the heavens.

Across from him, Gray deployed a solid, ice-sculpted combat helmet to fully encase his skull, locking his vision behind two plates of perfectly translucent, reinforced ice. His entire body stood completely sealed beneath a spiked fortress of frost armor.

”Too slow! Too slow!”

Racer’s silhouette flickered continuously across their perimeter like a phantom. A rapid, endless stream of massive stones was hurled through the air at terminal velocity, tracking directly toward Natsu and Gray’s positions as the boys desperately twisted their bodies to clear the primary lines of fire.

Even when a projectile managed to breach their evasion frames, the violent thermal updrafts and the raw density of Natsu’s flames systematically melted and deflected the stones to mitigate the incoming kinetic trauma. Simultaneously, Gray’s reinforced armor plates cleanly absorbed the blunt force of the rocks, reducing the incoming damage to negligible parameters.

After unleashing a continuous, high-intensity barrage of projectile strikes, Racer noted that the structural trauma inflicted on Natsu and Gray remained exceptionally light. Halting his transit, he glided to a stop a short distance away.

Seeing their opponent cease his assault, Natsu and Gray ground to a halt as well. The consuming inferno enveloping Natsu’s body rapidly softened; continuously maintaining a wide-area, high-density flame shield placed an immense psychological strain on his capacity, aggressively draining his internal magic channels.

Combined with the cumulative physical trauma he had absorbed throughout the engagement, Natsu’s chest began heaving as he gasped for air.
