I Seek Immortality Through Serendipity

Chapter 9: Chapter 7: Entering the Mountain, Borrowing Influence (Double-Length) (Part 3)

Only a group of loose cultivators were left, looking at each other in dismay.

The white-clothed youth’s face turned red, both embarrassed and angry.

Damn it, he turned out to be someone with connections!

Sh*t!

No wonder he has such a formidable Dharma Artifact!

Recalling how he behaved like a clown just now, the white-clothed youth wished he could find a hole to crawl into.

At the same time, he felt a wave of fear in his heart, worrying whether he had offended Gu Yuan.

But harking back to Gu Yuan’s deliberate teasing question at the end, his heart suddenly relaxed.

”Being able to make someone with connections show off in front of others for a laugh, this matter should be considered settled.”

”Alas, ten years of Qi Refining is not as good as a single Token...”

As he pondered, a sense of helplessness filled his heart once again.

...

...

Gu Yuan’s deliberate teasing was merely to relax the tension he had felt for days and did not linger on his mind.

At this moment, he was following closely behind the steward, watching everything around him intently.

Only by truly entering Cyan Peak Mountain can the grandeur of this mountain be appreciated.

Within it, one feels like an ant, with the giant peaks towering into the clouds, so much so that even the ends of the mountain tops cannot be seen.

Wherever one looks, pavilions abound, Spiritual Qi drifts like smoke, Immortal Cranes fly together, and magnificent waterfalls cascade from the mountain tops, creating a seemingly everlasting giant rainbow—a dreamlike scene.

”This Cyan Peak Mountain was relocated here nearly ten thousand years ago by the Great Magical Power of our school’s ancestor, moving it from the Central Divine Realm.”

Although the steward was already at the Qi Refining Ninth Layer, due to the Golden Core’s influence, he was very gentle with Gu Yuan, smilingly introducing the Cyan Peak before them.

”The Daoist School’s Human Resources Hall, Transmission Hall, Array Hall... all kinds of halls are within this mountain.”

”And behind this mountain, there are the Seven Peaks and Thirty-Six Islands, which are the cultivation places for the Seven Vein Disciples and each Golden Core Elder.”

”Once you are admitted into the sect, you will be assigned to one of the peaks or islands, where there is a Cave Mansion for cultivation.”

”By the way, did Elder Fox mention accepting you as a disciple? Or arrange for some elder to take you in?”

After a brief introduction, the steward suddenly changed the topic and asked Gu Yuan.

”The Ascendant mentioned the word opportunity.”

Gu Yuan pondered slightly, but still spoke truthfully.

”I see...”

The steward nodded slightly, but the enthusiasm in his tone instantly dropped a few degrees.

Opportunity means relying on yourself; it’s none of my business.

But since it was recommended by a Golden Core, his attitude wasn’t cold, just slightly more distant than before. He again introduced the surrounding scenery before asking casually:

”Junior Brother has such good fortune; I wonder how you caught the Ascendant’s eye? Elder Fox always has exceedingly high standards!”

Upon hearing this, Gu Yuan understood.

Golden Core Ascendants hold an extremely high status; one Token means those below must act according to it. However, why this command was issued, the Ascendant left unexplained.

At the very least, the steward was unaware.

And the people below, wanting to handle things beautifully, must grasp the scale precisely.

The steward’s roundabout inquiry was essentially to discern the true relationship between him and the Ascendant to decide his attitude towards him.

This attitude affects his interests.

Gu Yuan was unsure how many twists and turns this entry procedure into the sect entailed, but judging from the previous loose cultivator’s look, it was clearly a bit complicated.

Given the situation, he naturally couldn’t speak plainly.

If he did, others would immediately know that he and the Ascendant had severed ties, were merely ships passing in the night, and unlikely to forge any further connections.

Yet he couldn’t lie either, for that would be disrespectful to the Ascendant.

Given this, it’s best not to speak.

By not speaking, there is no answer; no answer means to avoid offending the Ascendant, a safe solution must be sought.

”Senior Brother is insightful! This matter involves the Ascendant’s personal affairs, and without his instruction, I dare not speak rashly. If Senior Brother wishes to know, he can inquire with the Ascendant himself!”

Gu Yuan cleverly dodged, respectfully calling him Senior Brother, yet refrained from divulging the truth.

And his reason was perfectly reasonable.

This matter indeed involves the personal affairs of the Ascendant’s disciple; since the Ascendant didn’t instruct me to spread it, not speaking is to respect the Ascendant.

”Haha, since it’s the Ascendant’s personal affairs, then forget it, come, come, the Human Resources Hall is just ahead, Junior Brother, follow me!”

Seeing no answer was forthcoming, the steward stopped pressing, but had already decided in his heart to treat Gu Yuan well for the time being, and wait until everything was clear before acting on it.

After all, he is spending the sect’s resources, giving them to one or the other is no different.
