She Used Me for a Dare… Now I Own Her Mother

Chapter 96: The Final Word

”Dr. Whitman, you can’t blame someone purely on motive without concrete evidence! Where is your proof?”

Those words still rang in her ears, but Miranda had had enough.

She turned toward Pierce, her expression steel-cold, her eyes sharp and unyielding. She stood tall in the center of the chamber, commanding absolute attention.

”I don’t have evidence to prove Marcus orchestrated this conspiracy,” she said, her words sharp as a blade. ”But I’m not blind.”

”And tell me, Mr. Pierce... where is your evidence against these young men?”

She gestured toward the defendants’ table with theatrical precision.

”They were are being destroyed based on what exactly? Testimony we’ve systematically demolished with medical records and timeline impossibilities?”

Her voice rose, gaining power with each word. ”You want to talk about evidence? Let’s examine what we actually know.”

”These boys,” she said, her gaze locking onto William and Brad, ”allegedly attacked in a campus parking lot. And nobody... not a single soul... heard anything in the busiest area of campus?”

She began pacing. Her heels clicked against the floor with military precision. ”The inconsistencies in their statements are glaring. Location changes. Timeline shifts. Convenient memory gaps. This isn’t witness confusion... it’s fabrication.”

Miranda stopped abruptly, facing the panel with burning intensity. ”This entire proceeding is nothing less than a calculated setup.”

”Injuries that occurred elsewhere were used to trap innocent students... with surgical precision.”

She turned toward Marcus, her green eyes blazing with controlled fury. ”Marcus Steele couldn’t tolerate public humiliation by scholarship students he deemed beneath him. So he weaponized real trauma. Real suffering.”

Her voice dropped to a deadly whisper, yet it filled the chamber. ”Alex, Mike, and Danny weren’t lurking somewhere, planning revenge. No. They were with a little girl... a child fighting for her life... while Marcus and his cronies plotted to frame them.”

Miranda’s gaze swept the room. ”Mr. Thompson and Mr. Martinez, they got attacked somewhere outside campus by unknown assailants. And Marcus... with motive, resources, and the perfect opportunity... encouraged them to believe Alex’s team was responsible.”

Her voice rang out with absolute conviction. ”Panel members, three innocent young men have been dragged through this circus. All because of assumptions, manipulation, and the wounded ego of a privileged student who couldn’t accept being bested.”

She paused, letting her words sink in like a hammer. ”Justice demands their complete exoneration. And it demands consequences for those who would destroy lives to settle personal scores.”

Miranda returned to her table. Her closing statement hung in the air like thunder after lightning... devastating, final, impossible to ignore.

The chamber fell into absolute silence. Every eye, every breath, caught in the weight of her words.

For a brief, almost imperceptible moment, some members of the gallery... students, faculty... began to clap softly, almost unconsciously, swept up in the force of her argument.

”Silence!”

Dr. Carlisle’s voice rang out sharply across the chamber.

The soft clapping stopped immediately, frozen mid-motion. Taut and controlled, the professional decorum of the chamber was restored.

Dr. Carlisle remained motionless, her expression unreadable, her eyes fixed on William and Brad. Silence returned immediately, deeper and more oppressive.

”You two have heard everything... every piece of evidence, every testimony, and every contradiction in your own statements.”

Her tone was stern but not unkind. ”If you don’t tell us clearly who actually did this to you, we’ll have no choice but to ignore your injuries entirely and recommend expulsion for filing false accusations.”

William and Brad went completely pale. Panic flickered in their eyes as they realized the trap they were caught in.

They couldn’t tell the truth... too much was at stake beyond just expulsion. Marcus had promised them medical coverage, connections, protection. If they betrayed him now, they’d lose everything and face years of recovery on their own.

But they also couldn’t maintain their lie in the face of overwhelming evidence.

William’s resolve cracked first. Tears began streaming down his face as he looked desperately at the panel.

”We never wanted to frame anyone,” he said, his voice breaking with genuine anguish. ”We never meant for innocent people to get hurt.”

His shoulders shook as the weight of what they’d done crashed down on him. ”We... we were driving to campus that morning. Early morning, around 7 AM, taking the shortcut through the woods near the maintenance building.”

He wiped his eyes with his sleeve, his voice becoming more desperate. ”Three people came out of nowhere. They had their faces covered... hoodies, masks. We couldn’t see who they were at all.”

Brad nodded frantically, tears now streaming down his own face. ”They just started attacking us. No words, no warning. Just violence.”

William looked directly at the panel, his face streaked with tears. ”We were scared, hurt, confused. When people asked us who might have done this, Alex and his team were the only ones we’d had problems with recently.”

His voice dropped to a whisper. ”After the match, they were so angry with us. Danny was shouting about how we’d betrayed the team. Mike was cursing at us. Even Alex looked furious.”

”We just assumed,” Brad added desperately. ”Three attackers, and we’d only had issues with Alex, Danny, and Mike. The timing seemed to fit. We genuinely thought it was them.”

William’s voice became pleading. ”We didn’t lie about being attacked. Our injuries are real. But we... we got scared and confused about the location. We said the parking lot because we thought it would look more believable.”

He looked toward Alex’s table with genuine remorse. ”Nobody forced us to say anything. We weren’t bribed or threatened. We just... we made a horrible mistake. We let our assumptions become accusations.”

The chamber erupted in murmurs of disbelief and anger. Students who had supported the accusations now looked disgusted. Faculty members shook their heads at the waste of everyone’s time and the damage done to innocent students.

But everyone could see what had really happened... William and Brad had been genuine victims who jumped to wrong conclusions, and someone had been all too happy to let those assumptions destroy innocent lives.

The truth was finally out, even if it revealed how easily real trauma could be weaponized for revenge.

The three panel members exchanged meaningful glances. Dr. Brennan cleared his throat and addressed the assembly.

”The panel will now recess for deliberation. This hearing is temporarily suspended.”

The trio rose and filed into the adjacent conference room, leaving the chamber buzzing with whispered conversations.

Twenty-five minutes later, they returned, their expressions grave but determined.

Dr. Carlisle stood, holding a formal document. Her voice carried across the now-silent chamber with institutional authority.

”After careful consideration of all testimony, evidence, and witness statements, this panel has reached its decisions.”

She looked directly at Alex, Mike, and Danny. ”Mr. Hale, Mr. Morrison, and Mr. Carter... you are hereby completely exonerated of all charges. The allegations against you are dismissed in their entirety.”

Relief flooded Alex’s face as Mike and Danny exchanged incredulous looks.

Dr. Carlisle continued, her tone becoming more formal. ”Furthermore, this panel wishes to extend a formal apology on behalf of this institution for the ordeal you have endured. The process you experienced was neither fair nor just, and we deeply regret the damage done to your reputations and well-being.”

Her gaze shifted to William and Brad, who sat with heads bowed. ”Mr. Thompson and Mr. Martinez, while we acknowledge you were genuine victims of assault, your false accusations have caused immeasurable harm to innocent students. You are hereby suspended from this institution for one month for filing false accusations and misleading this panel.”

William nodded through his tears, accepting the consequence.

Dr. Carlisle’s eyes found Marcus, who had gone pale. ”Mr. Steele, while we strongly suspect your involvement in orchestrating this conspiracy, the panel cannot find sufficient concrete evidence to impose formal sanctions at this time.”

Marcus’s relief was visible, but Dr. Carlisle wasn’t finished.

”However, you are hereby issued a formal warning. Any future misconduct, no matter how minor, will result in immediate expulsion from this institution. You are being watched, Mr. Steele.”

Finally, her stern gaze settled on Pierce, whose career was about to end. ”Mr. Pierce, your conduct throughout these proceedings has been unconscionable. Your bias, negligence, and failure to properly investigate these charges represent a fundamental breach of your professional duties.”

Pierce’s face went ashen as he realized what was coming.

”You are hereby permanently removed from any involvement in disciplinary proceedings at this institution. Furthermore, this panel recommends your suspension from administrative duties pending a full review by the board of trustees.”

The chamber erupted in murmurs of approval and shock.

Dr. Brennan stood, his voice carrying the weight of institutional authority. ”Let this case serve as a reminder that justice requires more than accusations... it demands evidence, fairness, and the courage to challenge powerful interests when they threaten innocent lives.”

The gavel fell with finality, bringing an end to the conspiracy that had nearly destroyed three innocent students.

As the murmurs died down, Dr. Brennan turned toward Miranda with genuine respect in his voice. ”Dr. Whitman, before we conclude, the panel wishes to acknowledge your exceptional advocacy throughout these proceedings.”

Dr. Carlisle nodded in agreement. ”Your systematic presentation of evidence, your thorough preparation, and your unwavering commitment to justice have been exemplary. You’ve demonstrated the highest standards of professional conduct.”

”Most importantly,” Dr. Brennan continued, ”you’ve reminded us all what true advocacy looks like... protecting the innocent while respecting the process. Your work here today will not be forgotten.”

As Dr. Brennan’s praise for Miranda faded, the chamber seemed to exhale all at once. For a moment, the room hung in stillness, then reactions began to ripple... quiet, layered, unmistakable.

The panel’s recognition of her work landed like a gavel. Miranda inclined her head with calm dignity, her presence still commanding even in silence.

Across the room, Pierce leaned back in his chair. His lips curved into a smile no one expected... genuine, satisfied. Not bitter, not mocking. For once, he looked almost proud, as if Miranda had fought the way he always wished the system could be fought. The expression lingered like a secret only he understood.
