Earth's Greatest Magus

Chapter 3001: Progress

Emery couldn’t help but gasp.

It was a good surprise.

A great one.

After all, it was common understanding among cultivators that the stronger one’s realm became, the harder it was to conceive. Grand Magus cultivators rarely had children at all, and those who did often spent decades trying.

When Emery and Klea married, they had quietly accepted that outcome. Neither had spoken of it directly, but the understanding had settled between them all the same.

So when Klea finally told him, Emery’s mind blanked for a moment before the words actually registered.

”This is great,” he finally said, pulling her into his embrace.

Klea blushed, a small smile slipping through. Then Emery suddenly pulled back, looking straight into her eyes, his expression sharpening with something closer to alarm.

”You shouldn’t have gone into that battle.” His grip on her shoulders tightened slightly. ”I can’t imagine if something had happened to you, or—”

He didn’t finish the thought. He didn’t need to.

Klea’s expression stirred faintly, the joy in her eyes dimming for a moment beneath something quieter. ”Forgive me. I only just found out my self”

Emery took a deep breath, forcing the tension out of his shoulders one measured exhale at a time.

”It’s fine,” he said at last. ”Fortunately, nothing bad happened.”

She leaned her head against his shoulder, one hand resting gently over her stomach as if she could already feel something stirring beneath her palm.

”Do you prefer a boy or a girl?”

His answer came without hesitation.

”It doesn’t matter... all the same”

Klea tilted her head up toward him, studying his face for a long moment, and whatever she found there seemed to satisfy her completely.

###

Cultivation demanded long periods of isolation. Entire months could vanish in silent seclusion, chasing a single moment of enlightenment or the slightest improvement in one’s Dao. Emery knew that the coming months would inevitably interrupt that rhythm, pulling him away from his training more often than he normally would have allowed.

It did not matter.

Some things were simply more important than cultivation.

He had missed those precious moments with Shinta.

He would not make the same mistake twice.

Not when fate had finally given him another chance.

Over the following year, Emery deliberately stepped away from cultivation for several days each month simply to remain by Klea’s side. He discovered that some forms of strength had nothing to do with cultivation realms or cosmic power, but with simply being present for the people who mattered most.

For perhaps the first time in many years, Emery found himself genuinely at peace.

Eight months later, Klea gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

Emery had never cared whether his child would be a son or a daughter. The moment he held the tiny infant in his arms, every lingering thought vanished.

She was perfect.

She inherited her mother’s dark hair and his emerald-green eyes, and the moment she took her first breath, she announced her arrival with such a loud, indignant cry that even the veteran healers exchanged amused smiles.

They named her Guinevere—a name chosen to honor the recently passing princess whose courage, kindness, and unwavering heart had forever changed both of their lives.

The birth of the child became a celebration for all of Neo Terra.

For three nights, thousands of lanterns illuminated the palace gardens while music echoed through every district of the city. Delegations arrived from across Dawnstar and even distant corners of Sector Thirteen, offering gifts and congratulations. Some came out of genuine friendship, while others simply wished to be seen extending goodwill toward the rapidly rising Earth Faction.

Emery welcomed them all with the same quiet courtesy.

Political intentions mattered little that day.

Only his family did.

Shinta, meanwhile, seemed completely captivated.

She spent nearly an hour standing beside the cradle, leaning over its edge as she studied her baby sister with endless fascination.

”Ooh... you’re so cute.”

She gently poked one of the baby’s tiny fists before tilting her head thoughtfully.

”I wonder what your cultivation talent will be. Do you have the half-blood bloodline? When you grow up, we’ll have to compete, you and I.”

The baby blinked up at her.

”...”

Then waved her tiny hand.

”Goo... Goo.. gaa...”

Emery could only shake his head, unable to suppress a smile.

Beside him, Klea laughed softly.

She looked exhausted after the long ordeal, yet there had never been a moment when she had looked more beautiful.

As Emery slowly returned to his training in the months that followed, Dawnstar continued moving forward without him.

The Red Dawn Faction finally completed its consolidation.

Six-year-old Gerardy Dawn Jr. was formally recognized as the rightful heir to the Red Dawn bloodline, with the Marquess serving as his protector and regent. There was a quiet irony in the decision. A family name that had become synonymous with corruption and decline would now be given the chance to stand for something better. The Marquess had insisted upon it.

The boy deserved the opportunity to redefine what the Dawn name meant.

On paper, the transition proceeded smoothly.

Reality was far less forgiving.

The enormous debts accumulated left the clan with little choice but to auction off vast portions of its lands, businesses, and treasured assets. The diminished Red Dawn household eventually relocated north, determined to rebuild its future from what little remained.

Much of the land was purchased by the Earth Faction, greatly expanding Neo Terra’s territory. The remainder was acquired by various smaller factions—many of them now close allies of Earth—further cementing the Earth Faction’s position as the true power behind Dawnstar.

The Korrath and Valmont houses fared far worse.

Crushed beneath staggering war reparations, stripped of nearly half their accumulated wealth, and buried under the mountain of criminal evidence uncovered during the tribunal hearings, both great houses suffered a collapse from which they might not recover for centuries. Several senior elders were stripped of their ranks and titles, while others simply disappeared from public view altogether, their ultimate fates left deliberately unspoken.

Meanwhile, the remnants of the Moonlight Syndicate were either captured or confirmed dead. Their once-vast network unraveled cell by cell as Earth faction agents methodically dismantled every hidden stronghold and secret operation they uncovered.

Little by little...

Dawnstar began to heal.

Relations with the Magus Alliance government grew stronger, while a bureaucracy that had rotted from within for decades slowly cleansed itself. Corrupt administrators were arrested one after another, dragged from their comfortable offices before tribunals that, at last, possessed both the authority and the will to deliver justice. Honest officials—many of whom had spent years overlooked and ignored—were finally promoted into positions where their integrity could make a difference.

Trade routes reopened.

Piracy and corruption along the patrol routes declined sharply now that bribery no longer guaranteed protection.

Within a single year, the standard of living across Dawnstar improved more than it had during the previous decade combined.

And everyone knew exactly who deserved the credit.

The Earth Faction had not earned Dawnstar’s trust through overwhelming military strength alone, though no one doubted it possessed that strength. Instead, it had earned the city’s faith gradually and deliberately, one decision, one reform, and one promise kept at a time.

It had been the slower path.

But it was also the kind of trust that, once earned, did not easily fade.

A few months later, one piece of news arrived that unsettled everything.

The masked man — leader of the Moonlight Syndicate, had been found dead.

For the past several months he had begun cooperating, offering names in exchange for leniency, slowly peeling back layer after layer of the network he had once commanded. A handful of names had already been confirmed and quietly acted upon.

Then, inside one of the most secure magus alliance prisons in the sector, he simply died.

No struggle. No alarm triggered. No sign of forced entry anywhere near his cell.

Officially, it was ruled a suicide.

No one who looked closely believed that for a second.

Emery certainly didn’t.

Someone had reached him.

Only half the names he’d given ever surfaced publicly. The rest stayed buried, scrubbed quietly from the official record, protected by something far larger than the Syndicate itself. But within that fractured trail of information — half-completed reports, redacted testimonies, and the handful of contacts — Emery finally found the thread he’d been quietly hunting.

A name.

The Eternal Watchers.

It confirmed a suspicion he’d carried for some time now, one he hadn’t dared voice aloud until the pieces finally lined up.

The Moonlight Syndicate had never been more than a branch. A tool. A piece on someone else’s board, serving an organization whose roots ran far deeper than a single planet, deeper even than a single sector — something woven directly into the Alliance’s own councils, patient enough to let an entire criminal network burn down to the ground rather than risk exposing itself.

The investigation surfaced a handful of new names in the weeks that followed, scattered and incomplete, but real. Names attached to positions of genuine influence — a councilor’s aide here, a logistics officer there, threads that all seemed to lead somewhere higher than anyone had anticipated. The scale of what lay behind them already felt far beyond what Emery and the Earth faction alone could hope to confront, not yet, perhaps not for years.

Still, it was progress. And progress meant he finally had a direction worth chasing.

One thing was certain.

He needed to grow stronger.

Once again, Emery turned his focus back toward his cultivation, the name Eternal Watchers settling somewhere deep in his mind, waiting.
