My Youth Began With Him

“Who are you?”

“Chief Gao, I’m Chen Yuning.”

“Little Chen, what’s up?”

Having been lectured by his wife, Gao Ran was still frustrated and wasn’t in the mood to chit chat with his subordinate.

“Oh. I want to report to you some details about my work. Can you add me as your WeChat friend?”

“You report your work to your direct superior Section Chief Liu. He’ll tell me in the meeting tomorrow.”

“Oh… Okay. Good night.”

“Good night.”

“Oh, by the way, my relative brought me some local tea from my hometown. I heard you love tea, so I saved some for you. Please don’t think I’m trying to cozy up to you. It’s worth only a couple hundreds of yuan. Heihei… I just remembered you are a big fan of tea.”

“Thank you.”

Gao Ran’s tone was indifferent and didn’t say more to Chen Yuning.

He didn’t spare much thought to this new female employee who had just graduated from school. Lately, many things had happened, and the officials in the provincial government were not happy with the case of vampires, and Gao Ran felt he was walking on thin ice whenever he was in a meeting with them. So, he had focused all his energy and thoughts on the case and was in no mood to notice pretty girls.

However, he wasn’t familiar with the tricks the woman played, which was why Zhu Lingling misunderstood him.

Knowing his wife was not happy with him, Gao Ran didn’t dare to try his luck, so he took out a blanket and slept in the living room.

Why didn’t he sleep in the guest bedroom? The reason was simple: he must look miserable to garner some pity and forgiveness from his wife.

At seven o’clock on the next morning, when Zhu Lingling and her son got up and went into the living room, they saw the blanket and pillow piled neatly on the sofa.

“Mom, my dad slept in the living room last night. It’s quite cold here; I’m afraid he’d get a cold,” Boyuan mumbled.

“He’s as healthy as a bull. How can he get a cold?” Zhu Lingling said in a huff.

“Huh? There’s breakfast on the table.”

Boyuan walked over and Zhu Linging followed his son.

On the dinner table were deep-fried dough sticks, soymilk, tea eggs, and ham slices.

On the note beside the breakfast were the words, “I bought breakfast. You guys eat it while it’s still warm. I’m off to work.”

“Wow. Dad even bought us breakfast…”

“He’s guilty; that’s why he’s so attentive…”

“Mom, what mistake did my dad make? You even confiscated his Land Rover…” Boyuan was curious. He hadn’t dared to ask last night, seeing his mom was in a lousy mood.

“Boyuan, if your dad has the other woman, will you forgive him?”

“Um… It’s impossible…”

“Why do you trust him so much? Just because he’s your dad?” Zhu Lingling looked at her son curiously.

“No, no, no. My dad said no homewrecker is your match; you’re as fierce as a female tiger…”

Zhu Lingling: “…”

“Did your dad tell you that?” Zhu Lingling’s face paled in rage.

“Um… Did I say anything wrong?”

“It seems I’ll take back the 500-yuan WeChat red packet. Gao Ran, you’re a bastard…”

“Mom, you can’t call my dad a bastard,” Gao Boyuan complained.

“Why not?”

“If he’s a bastard, then I’m the son of a bastard, right?” Gao Boyuan said innocently.

Zhu Lingling: “…”

“Do we eat breakfast or not?” Boyuan held his breath in fear.

“Of course. We can’t save it for his other woman, right?”

She sat down with her son to eat breakfast.

Meanwhile in the municipal public security bureau, Gao Ran sneezed several times, wondering who was cursing him behind his back.

“Chief Gao, here’s the tea.”

Chen Yuning put a gift box on Gao Ran’s desk.

“Oh, thank you.”

“Chie Gao, have you had breakfast?” Chen Yuning asked bashfully.
