S.P.E.C.T.O.R – [A Sci-fi space adventure with fantasy elements]

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): My apologies. While I will allow my daughter to explain to you why I decided to test you when you meet again in the future, for now, allow me to make amends by answering any one question you may have. Within reason, of course.]

As Adam saw Becky’s response, he fell into thought for a moment before remembering what Spector had told him back when we first met.

“What is the purpose of Solarian Special Forces Research and Development Division Five?” Adam asked.

[Justiceistruth (Earth): Huh, what did he ask?]

[DeverinianLordMalacoss (Deverinian 9): I think his AI is muting him again.]

[Handsome3horns (Vinox 2): This shit again.]

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): I’m afraid we didn’t hear that, Adam. I think your AI muted you.]

[LadyErkath (Aqua Primus): Oh! So even they didn’t hear the question.]

[NonpareilRaphilia (Aaru): Now I’m super interested in what the question was if it muted it for everyone.]

Adam sighed after reading the messages before asking, “Seriously?”

[[Affirmative. The question you asked delves into my classified nature and could potentially put both of us at risk.]]

“Fine, fine, I’ll ask something else,” Adam replied before falling into thought again.

Finally, he asked, ”What happened with regards to the Caninian’s who tried to kidnap Liluth back then and did you ever discover who hired them?”

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Really, that’s your question?]

“Is there something wrong with that?” Adam asked.

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Not at all, it’s just you could easily find out everything regarding the kidnapping on the Universal Subspace Network; it’s public knowledge after all.]

“Well, to be honest, there’s nothing else I’m really interested in knowing from you, and since Liluth is a friend I helped back then, I figured I would make sure everything was resolved,” Adam replied.

“Out of everything he could have asked me, he chose that?” Riniya said in surprise before smiling at her daughter.

“Impressed?” Lilith asked as she saw her mother’s smile.

“Indeed,” Riniya replied before continuing, “he could have asked me anything, from information on our family and race, or even secrets about the other races and universe as a whole.

And yet he chose to ask about you and make sure everything about your kidnapping was resolved.

How can I not be impressed with a man who puts my daughter before anything else?”

“I told you,” Liluth bragged happily.

“Honestly, knowing him, he probably didn’t even consider asking about any of that,” Tessa said with a smile.

“Why not?” Riniya asked.

“Because Adam’s only been in the known universe for less than a year,” Tessa replied.

“Less than a year?” Shalendra repeated in confusion before asking, “But didn’t he save the princess all those years ago?”

Tessa was about to answer when she noticed Liluth giving her a meaningful look, so she smiled at her reassuringly before saying.

“Let me rephrase: he’s only been in the known universe for less than a year this time. I believe it was around the time when Drotas Entertainment attempted to have Diva Lorelie kidnapped.”

“Then where was he all this time?” Shalendra asked.

“If I had to guess, I would say he returned to his home planet, or maybe he was exploring parts of the universe we know nothing about,” Tessa replied.

“Wait, doesn’t that mean he built up all those connections in less than a year?” Keerla asked in shock.

“Before discussing this, it might be an idea to respond to Adam,” Becky suggested while pointing at the holographic screen where they saw that he was climbing out of the hover taxi.

[Handsome3horns (Vinox 2): What’s taking her so long to respond?]

[Handsome3horns (Vinox 2): Maybe she needed the loo.]

[Superior4horns (Vinox 3): Idiot, you do realise you’re talking about a queen, right?]

[Handsome3horns (Vinox 2): I’m aware, stupid.]

[Superior4horns (Vinox 3): Well then mr genius, do you also remember that she could have you easily executed?]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): Wouldn’t that cause some kind of international incident?]

[Superior4horns (Vinox 3): You really think our leaders would care if this dickhead got executed for insulting the Solarian Queen?]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): Fair point.]

Adam looked around after climbing out of the hover taxi to find that he stood a short distance away from a large mansion that was surrounded by a high wall.

A short way up the street was a large entry gate with a guard house stationed just inside the mansion grounds.

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Queen Riniya says: Sorry for the slow reply, I was just surprised at your response.]

Adam read the message while scanning the mansion opposite him before saying, “It’s fine, though I don’t see why you would be so surprised.”

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Queen Riniya says: Is that so? But I’m digressing; you asked about how my daughter’s kidnapping was resolved.

After apprehending the Caninian leader thanks to your help, we interrogated him before sentencing him to death.

Unfortunately, he was unable to reveal much other than the fact that the one who issued the job wished to remain anonymous.]

[Beinglittleisnotadisadvantage (Strathorp 7): Not unsurprising since they wished to kidnap the First Princess of the Solarian race.]

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Queen Riniya says: Indeed. After learning this, we enlisted the help of Uldreyin Chaetris, and although he was able to pinpoint the location of where the job was issued. Once we arrived, we discovered it had been abandoned.]

“So you were never able to find the true mastermind behind the incident?” Adam asked while walking away from the mansion.

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Queen Riniya says: Unfortunately not, and although we spent many years searching for clues, the mastermind covered their tracks too well.]

“Who’s this Uldreyin Chaetris?” Adam asked.

[Beinglittleisnotadisadvantage (Strathorp 7): How can you not know who Uldreyin Chaetris is? He’s one of the creators of the Universal Subspace Network. His and his compatriots’ actions of creating the Universal Subspace Network are mandatory reading at school.]

[Whitehorn (Darah 5): He never attended school in the known universe, idiot.]

[Beinglittleisnotadisadvantage (Strathorp 7): Oh right.]

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Queen Riniya says: It’s as Beinglittleisnotadisadvantage says. And like almost all of the other creators of the Universal Subspace Network, Uldreyin Chaetris likes his privacy, so he is not harassed by people wanting favours from him.]

“Hmm,” Adam replied thoughtfully as he stepped into another alley before saying, “The fact that Liluth’s kidnapping was never resolved doesn’t sit well with me. Would you be willing to forward me all the information you learned so that I can look into this matter?”

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): Streamer’s doing his White Knight shit again. Kekeke.]

[AlamoMatador4thewin (Earth): He’s a Black Knight, remember.]

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Queen Riniya says: I would be happy to, since it was you who saved her originally, though I’m not sure you will find anything since even Uldreyin Chaetris couldn’t.

But tell me, why would you go so far to assist someone you have only met once in your life?]

Adam, who pulled what looked like a small piece of paper out of his pocket, froze when he saw the message before falling into thought.

Eventually, he said, “because she reminds me of someone very precious to me that I lost.”

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Queen Riniya says: Who would that be?]

“My first love, Jenny,” Adam replied with a look of melancholy in his eyes.

[OrangeeyedStace (Spector): Babe.]

[OfficialLorelie (Spector): Babe.]

[OfficialRowena (Spector): Darling.]

[Phoenixempress (Fenix Nest): Honey.]

[Thewhitesoverign (Spector): Baby.]

[Superior4horns (Vinox 3): Hey! Why is White Dragon Tephe joining in?]

[Thewhitesoverign (Spector): Why shouldn’t I join in when all my future mate’s lovers are doing it also?]

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Queen Riniya says: I see, I’m sorry to hear that. Though it seems you now have many other women who care and love you.]

“Indeed, though I still don’t understand how that happened, I just know I’m incredibly lucky to have each of them,” Adam replied.

[OfficialLorelie (Spector): Awww, babe.]

[OfficialRowena (Spector): Casanova.]

[OrangeeyedStace (Spector): Hey, don’t complain, I like hearing him compliment us.]

[OfficialRowena (Spector): I’m not; he knows full well I love his compliments and that he can expect a reward later.]

[Handsome3horns (Vinox 2): Lucky bastard.]

[Puntanghunter69Ver2 (International Space Station): Damn lucky bastard.]

[OfficialRowena (Fenix Nest): I’m sure an uncountable number of men in the universe agree with you both.]

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Queen Riniya says: Haha, to be young. Once we are done here, I will have Keerla send you all the information we have on my daughter’s kidnapping through Lieutenant Starlover here.]

“Alright,” Adam replied before adding, “I accept the proxy stream quest.”

[[Proxy stream quest accepted.]]

[Beczontop (Imperial Down): Queen Riniya says: I’m happy to hear it and look forward to what you have to show me.]

Adam looked at the last message in confusion before he placed the box down on a nearby abandoned table.

[MercheadAnderson (Palaxia): What’s he doing?]

[Beinglittleisnotadisadvantage (Strathorp 7): Don’t tell me he’s dumping the Yliaster DX Six there.]

[Superherofangirl (Earth): What’s with that piece of paper?]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): Maybe he plans to place a note in the box.]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): Maybe it’s a love letter. Kekeke.]
