Endless Winter: My Camp Upgrades Infinitely

Chapter 477: Chapter 218: Departure, Sending a Letter, Killing

Long Mountain is located more than fifty kilometers to the west of the Hive.

Fifty kilometers might not sound like much.

But for the humans of the Ice Abyss, it’s considered quite a long distance.

The current territorial scope of the Great Xia is already quite broad, but from Twin Dragon Valley as a starting point, the farthest the people from the Great Xia Camp venture is south to Xing River and then take a turn east to Wuyuan. This journey, combined, is only a little over thirty kilometers.

Not considering the dangers encountered on the journey, just crossing an unfamiliar fifty kilometers in the harsh cold of the Ice Abyss isn’t an easy task, even for those at the Cold Resistance Level, let alone those in the Earth-digging Realm.

Thus, for most people of the Ice Abyss, a fifty-kilometer journey might be an impossibility for a lifetime.

“Of course, it’s not possible elsewhere, but our Hive can, the two camps in the southeastern part of Pingxi Plain, adjacent to Redwood Ridge are ours and the Yanglu Camp…”

In the snowfield to the west of the Hive Camp, three iron-wheel carts, one small and two large, were slow-moving westward under human power.

In front of the last cart fully loaded with iron ore, an older man was speaking eloquently about the difficulty of traversing the over fifty kilometers.

“If we head west for thirteen kilometers, we enter the territory of Yanglu, and go fifteen kilometers further west to enter Yucheng’s territory. Once past Yucheng Camp, we will be able to see Long Mountain.”

“Uncle Ma, how long will it take to reach Long Mountain?”

At the front of the team, a well-dressed young man with a sword immediately stepped back a few steps upon hearing the older man’s words and curiously inquired.

“Young Master!”

The middle-aged man surnamed Ma noticed the young man, quickly bowed, and after pondering for a moment, said, “In previous years, the tribute of coal and iron was a million pounds each, needing only one cargo cart, so the pace was quicker, taking only eight days; this time, with two carts, the pace has slowed considerably, I reckon it will take at least twelve days.”

“That’s so slow!”

“It’s not to be underestimated, Young Master, traveling through the Ice Abyss is not like hunting; during hunting, our target is clear, finding the Cold Beast, but traveling is different, we need someone to clear the snow paths, and so many people to pull the carts, and the road is full of ravines, the snowfields have many pits, you really can’t move faster, five to six kilometers a day is fast enough, in special circumstances, moving only three to four kilometers a day would be quite normal…”

Upon hearing this, the young man turned his head to look at the four people ahead frantically clearing the snow with rakes, and slightly nodded, showing a look of approval on his face.

……

Behind the large cart, Xia Hong was pushing the cart along with several others. Hearing the conversation between Chen Yuan and Ma Yong, he looked up and gazed forward, also showing a look of agreement.

Ma Yong is the number 1 member of Chen Yingba’s Hunting Team, according to Chen Yingba’s numbering of the team members, out of twenty-five members, he is the strongest.

Indeed, in Xia Hong’s observation, Ma Yong’s basic strength is over sixty thousand pounds, which is indeed higher than the other twenty-three.

Of course, being strong is secondary.

The key is that Ma Yong is older and has considerable knowledge.

For the vast majority of Ice Abyss humans, over fifty kilometers is a distance they haven’t traveled in their lifetime. What Ma Yong just said is absolutely correct.

Due to the perennial snow, the snow accumulation on the ground of the Ice Abyss is just too thick, in areas with high vegetation coverage and frequent human activity, it can be slightly better, but in places like Pingxi Plain, it is even more exaggerated.

The four people ahead clearing the snow, have barely stopped using their rakes all the way, and those pushing the carts also occasionally rotate with them.

Even so, this group of people, starting from the night of April 2nd, has been heading west for ten hours now, roughly half a night, and has only traveled about three kilometers.

“Walking in the Pingxi Plain is several times slower than in the Great Xia, but primarily because of the two large carts carrying iron ore. Without these two carts, the pace would be much faster.”

Xia Hong looked at the two large carts with a hint of helplessness in his eyes.

If it were just him, he certainly wouldn’t move so slowly.

Thinking of this, he looked up towards the front of the team.

The smallest cart in the lead is pulled by only two people, carrying a small three-meter-long room, with decorations hanging all around and a flag on top inscribed with the word “Hive.”

“That Chen Yingyuan really knows how to enjoy life, making a cart just for himself, equipped with a heater inside, such extravagance…”

Looking at the smoke curling from the top of the small cart in front, Xia Hong sighed slightly, wishing to pull Chen Yingyuan off the cart and take his place.

Of course, this was just a joke!

Xia Hong’s gaze slightly narrowed, from Chen Yingyuan’s control over the departure time, it should be a plan to meet with the teams of Yang Lu and Yucheng halfway.

They want to meet before the alliance meeting, no guessing needed, it’s regarding Hou Hu’s matter.

From the last eavesdropping, Xiling, White Abyss, Eastern Kang, Wushuang, and Hanqiong’s five camps have all turned to Zhaoyang, the Hive due to Chen Yingyuan’s hesitation is currently in an undecided state.

The attitude of the other four camps is still unclear to Xia Hong.

“The attitudes of the Yang Lu and Yucheng camps might influence Chen Yingyuan’s final decision. If nothing unexpected happens, these three should be allied as one. Once they turn to Zhaoyang, Long Mountain will truly be in danger. Just follow Chen Yingyuan to see what’s going on, and once we reach Long Mountain, watch the show!”
