Endless Winter: My Camp Upgrades Infinitely

Chapter 363: Chapter 183: Population Explosion, Valley Planning_3

Qiu Peng spoke as he handed over the register.

Xia Chuan took the register, glanced through it briefly, and his face showed satisfaction. He then returned the register to Qiu Peng and turned to Luo Yuan, smiling, ”Yuwen Dao won’t be here tonight; he must have informed you of this, right?”

Luo Yuan stood up and nodded, also taking out a Beast Skin Book from the side.

”My lord, the Hunting Department has established eleven new teams during this period. Adding the original thirteen teams and subtracting the disbanded Xuanwu Team, there are currently twenty-three hunting teams...”

Xia Chuan watched Luo Yuan speak confidently, quickly adapting to the position of Deputy Director of the Hunting Department. His eyes revealed a hint of approval, thinking that Yuwen Dao was sensible after all.

With the merging of major camps, the number of people in the Earth-digging Realm has been increasing, and the duties of the Hunting Department have also grown daily. Xia Chuan was not surprised when Yuwen Dao came to him a few days ago, proposing to add a deputy director.

What surprised him was that Yuwen Dao did not propose one of his own people but suggested Luo Yuan for the deputy director position.

Hong Guang’s Xuanwu Team was disbanded by his brother, and he could no longer compete for the Pioneer Department Director position. At the time, Xia Chuan thought Yuwen Dao harbored resentment and intentionally suggested another deputy director to promote his own people. Unexpectedly, this was not the case.

”The matter of Hong Guang is entirely his own doing. He caused the deaths of Tian Yu and Liu Zhuang, which made me very upset. The leaders’ handling of this was fair, and I have no objections. To be honest, I was never very supportive of him vying for the Pioneer Department Director position, but he was hard to dissuade. Now, with such a big issue occurring, I also share the blame.”

Recalling Yuwen Dao’s words from the other day, Xia Chuan nodded slightly, cleared his thoughts, and continued listening to Luo Yuan’s report.

”My lord, can we appropriately relax the criteria for forming hunting teams? Currently, there are nearly two hundred people who can’t join any hunting team!”

Upon hearing Luo Yuan’s final suggestion, Xia Chuan was momentarily taken aback but quickly understood that there weren’t enough hunting teams.

Currently, the 23 hunting teams are all low-level, with a maximum of ten members each according to regulations, meaning only 230 people from the Earth-digging Realm have joined teams, yet there are 431 people in the camp, with 199 without teams.

The problem is, Yuwen Dao originally stipulated that forming a personal hunting team has conditions: First, the creator must have a Basic Strength of over twenty thousand pounds; second, four members are required; finally, they must hunt five different species of Low-level Cold Beasts.

Yuwen Dao’s regulation is very rational; with a Basic Strength of over twenty thousand pounds, leading four from the Earth-digging Realm against Low-level Cold Beasts, even if they can’t win due to inexperience, they can at least ensure their safety.

The regulation is rational, but the current personnel quality doesn’t match up.

There are too few from the Earth-digging Realm with a Basic Strength of over twenty thousand pounds in the camp.

These newly formed eleven teams, Xia Chuan knew, seven were made up of Earth-digging Realm members from the earlier Great Xia who met the standards; only four of over ten thousand merged from Five Ape Mountain met the standards, successfully forming one team.

Therefore, Luo Yuan proposed to relax the conditions; otherwise, nearly two hundred people would miss out on hunting, which indeed seems unfair.

Xia Chuan pondered for a moment and finally shook his head, saying:

”The regulation has only been in place for a month, changing it now would be inappropriate. The twenty-thousand-pound threshold is quite reasonable and unnecessary to alter. Relaxing the conditions could lead to inconsistent quality among hunting teams and casualties, which would not be good.

Here’s what we’ll do: maintain the existing twenty-three teams, but you discuss with Yuwen Dao; we can modify the current team member limit, expanding low-level teams to twenty people. However, the corresponding limits for intermediate and advanced teams must also change, and the minimum monthly hunting quota must be adjusted as well.”

Luo Yuan’s eyes lit up upon hearing this and he nodded immediately.

Expanding 23 teams to twenty members each will accommodate 460 people in total.

This not only utilizes the remaining Earth-digging Realm members but also, crucially, addresses the issue he originally intended to raise second: the increased demand for beast meat due to the recent population growth in the camp, which is now solved.

Having resolved the Hunting Department’s issue, Xia Chuan finally turned his gaze to Mu Dong.

Mu Dong understood and immediately stood up, respectfully saying, ”Report to the Lord Minister, the wooden building is nearly complete and will be ready for full occupancy tomorrow night.”

Hearing that the wooden building was complete and occupancy would begin the next night put smiles on everyone’s faces, including Xia Chuan.

This time, they had been too cramped.

However, before they had long to celebrate, Mu Dong continued,:

”However, my lord, the camp’s current population seems a bit high, with over 23,000 people. Although the newly built wooden building can accommodate them, allocating rooms as before to each individual household is not possible!”

Everyone was momentarily stunned upon hearing this, including Xia Chuan. After thinking for a moment, they all quickly understood.

The newly reconstructed wooden building is only different in materials from the previous one, with much higher defensive capabilities, but the internal layout remains the same: 360 rooms on the first floor, 280 rooms on the second floor, and 100 rooms on the third floor.

When the Great Xia previously had only a thousand or so people, couples could generally get a one-room home, while unmarried individuals were allocated ten-person rooms separated by gender.

Now, with over 20,000 people in the entire camp, distributing as before is definitely not feasible.

Qiu Peng stepped forward at this moment and said, ”My lord, excluding special cases like orphans and single individuals, there are currently 5821 households registered in the camp’s family record. Allocating rooms as before will not be enough.”
