[BL] Oops! I Seduced My Sister's Fiance (And Now I'm Pregnant)

*Runze’s POV*

She’s been gone maybe twenty minutes and I’m still sitting here.

The tea on the table has gone cold. The maids haven’t moved from their spots near the wall, standing like quiet statues. Outside, the afternoon light is shifting slowly without asking anyone’s permission, moving across the floorboards.

I find myself holding the pendant at my throat, the diamonds cool against my fingertips. I’m not thinking about anything in particular, which really means I am thinking about everything.

Feifei.

The way she walked into the room. The way her eyes found the photographs on the table without me watching for it... though who am I kidding? I *was* watching for it.

I’d been watching for everything, cataloguing every tiny flicker of expression on her face the way I always do when I’m nervous and trying hard not to look nervous.

The two seconds she spent looking at the candid photo, the tiny hitch in her stride, barely anything at all, but loud enough to fill the entire space between us.

*You used to have more cheeks.*

I press my fingers against my own cheekbone without thinking, repeating the same movement I made when she said it. I catch myself doing it, feel a sudden wave of self-consciousness, and drop my hand back into my lap.

She came.

That’s the one thought my mind keeps circling back to. Not what she said, not the careful, rigid way she held herself together for most of the conversation, not even the moment her professional mask slipped and she asked about my stomach—*which side*—like she needed to map out the exact spot where the pain lived.

All of that mattered, of course it did. But underneath everything else is just the bare fact of her presence. She heard I nearly died in that crash, she got into a car, and she came here.

I had told myself, after everything fell apart, that it was fine. I told myself that the loss didn’t really count the way it would have counted if we had been a real family. *She’s not your actual sister,* I used to whisper to myself in the dark. *You’ve only known her for a few weeks, you don’t get to grieve something that was never really yours to begin with.*

I believed it too, for a while. Or at least, I pretended to believe it, which is close enough when you’re trying to protect yourself.

But sitting across from her today changed things.

Watching the ghost of her old smile appear and disappear before she could stop it, watching her look at Bael and ask *has he been sleeping* like she needed to know I was being taken care of because she couldn’t do it herself... I don’t know how to make that old argument anymore.

It was never about the blood. We have that regardless. What I kept telling myself was that blood without history doesn’t mean anything, that a few weeks isn’t enough to make someone your sister in any way that matters. But she walked in today and something deep in my chest recognized her before I could think of a reason to stop it.

That’s not something you can argue yourself out of.

It was just after Feifei left that Mrs. Wen’s voice carried in from the hallway.

She was speaking to Bael, her tone quiet but clear enough to cut through the stillness of the house. ”Mr. Bael, Grandmother Wuchen wants to see you in the west wing.”

Bael looked at me first.

It wasn’t a long look, just... checking. It’s that particular quality of attention he has, the kind that takes in the state of the whole room and the state of my mind in a single second.

Whatever he saw in my face must have satisfied him because he stood up. Before he walked away, his hand moved to my shoulder briefly, a steady press that lasted maybe two seconds, leaving a lingering warmth behind.

”I’ll be back,” he said. His voice was low, quiet enough that only I could hear it over the silence.

Then he was gone.

The sitting room felt different without him. Not smaller, just quieter in a way that had nothing to do with sound.

The space where he’d been sitting still held the warmth of him somehow, or maybe I was imagining that. The maids hadn’t moved from their spots near the wall. Feifei’s cup was still on the table, her cushion still slightly indented from where she’d sat.

I looked at the portraits again.

The family one first. Then the smaller frame, the candid, Bael not looking at the camera, my hand in his.

I thought about Feifei’s eyes landing on it for two seconds before she looked away. I thought about the way she’d said *take care of yourself* and turned toward the door and I watched her pace slow for just a moment as she passed the side table.

I find the pendant again without meaning to, turning it slowly between my fingers.

***

My phone vibrates on the cushion beside me, the sudden noise making me flinch.

I pick it up slowly.

The number on the screen isn’t saved in my contacts, but I don’t need a name to know who it is.

...Xue Lian.

I stare at the digits for a second, feeling a particular cold recognition settling right in the middle of my chest. My thumb hovers over the screen before I finally open the message.

*You Win.*

Two words. That’s all.

I read them once. Then I read them again, letting the letters blur together.

I set the phone face down on my knee and look toward the window.

*You Win.*

There is no explanation following it. There is no long, dramatic paragraph designed to make me feel angry or guilty or satisfied. Just those two words, sent from a number I never saved because saving it would have meant acknowledging that he was a constant, real threat in our lives.

Xue Lian.

I think about what those two words actually mean, coming from a person like him.

He decided, at some point in the past, that the two of us were in a competition. In his mind, we were standing on opposite ends of a rope, pulling against each other, and whoever was still standing at the very end would get to keep Bael.

That was his own framework, his own twisted game. It was never mine.

I never agreed to play. Half the time, I didn’t even fully understand that a game was happening around me. I was just... here.

I was just trying to survive a marriage that wasn’t supposed to be real in the beginning. I was falling in love with someone who, at the time, didn’t know what to do with me or where to put me. I was building a life out of nothing, piece by piece, in a house that slowly and quietly became a home.

And now Xue Lian is looking at all of that history, at the wreckage and the recovery, and he’s saying *you win.*

I look over at the smaller portrait on the side table again. Bael’s eyes are so focused on me, my hand tucked so naturally into his.

Maybe Xue Lian is right, maybe that’s exactly what all of this adds up to.

But the bitterness tastes sharp in my mouth. I never asked for a competition, and I never wanted to be a prize. I wasn’t trying to beat anyone or take anyone’s place, I was just trying to keep my head above water.

I was just trying to stay standing after the world shook.

And somewhere in the middle of all that trying, without me making a conscious decision, I ended up right here. I ended up with a necklace at my throat, a portrait on the side table, and the memory of Bael’s voice saying *I love you* in that quiet, heavy way, like it was simply a fact of life.

*You Win.*

I slide the phone away from me. I don’t want to look at it anymore.

I hear his footsteps out in the corridor... that particular, unhurried rhythm, the even sound of someone who doesn’t need to announce himself anywhere because he already owns the ground he walks on.

I don’t turn around to look at him.

His footsteps cross the room. He comes to stand behind my armchair and his hands settle on my shoulders, warm and steady through the fabric of my cardigan. Then he leans down and his lips press to the top of my head — brief, quiet, the kind of thing he does now without making a production of it.

”How are you feeling?”

His voice is low, completely unhurried.

His thumbs begin to move against my skin, finding the tight knots at the base of my neck with the perfect accuracy of someone who already knows exactly where the stress hides in my body. Under his touch, the tension I didn’t even realize I was still holding onto begins to come apart, loosening by degrees.

My phone is lying face down on the cushion right next to me. Two words are sitting inside the dark screen, hidden but there.

I look at his hands resting on my shoulders.

I don’t answer his question about how I’m feeling. The words catch in my throat.

”Bael.”

The way I say it... just his name, flat and clear, with nothing else attached to the end of it, makes his thumbs slow down.

He doesn’t stop moving entirely, he just slows his pace. It’s that particular shift in his attention, a change that has no outward sign at all except that the air in the room suddenly alters, becoming much more focused, much tighter.

He has learned my voice well enough to hear the difference.

I still don’t look up at him. I keep my eyes glued to the window, watching the afternoon light stretching across the garden, tracing the faint green edge of the osmanthus trees past the glass pane.

”What exactly is your relationship with Xue Lian?”

His hands go completely still on my shoulders.

I feel him above me, not moving, not speaking. The stillness of someone who was not expecting this question at this angle, in this room, at this particular moment. Not guilty still. Something more careful than that. The stillness of someone deciding what the true answer is, not the easy one.

I wait.

The sitting room holds its breath.

Neither of us moves.
