Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 147: Chapter 139: A Bare Butt Looks Better

By the time they returned to Huangtuo Village, it was already past lunchtime. After they finished unloading all the rice and flour from the cart, Hu Feng’s clothes were completely drenched in sweat.

Uncle Hu paid the driver, Uncle Liu, double the fare. Uncle Liu’s earlier displeasure vanished in an instant, and he cheerfully led his oxcart away.

”Hu Feng, hurry to the back and wipe yourself down. Change your clothes, just look at all that sweat.” Uncle Hu looked at Hu Feng, his expression full of heartache. ’Why isn’t my hand healed yet? I’m no help at all.’

Hu Feng grunted in acknowledgment and turned to head for the backyard. Only then did Uncle Hu pull Bai Zhi aside. ”Zhi, why did you buy so much rice and flour? We couldn’t possibly finish all this in a year!”

Hu Changlin knew Bai Zhi’s personality. She wasn’t one to act recklessly, and she certainly wasn’t the type to squander money just because she had some. ’But what is she doing buying so much rice and flour? If you store grains for too long, they get infested with weevils. Isn’t that just a waste?’

Bai Zhi smiled. ”Uncle Hu, I didn’t buy all this rice and flour just for us to eat. I heard there are major floods in the south, and many refugees are making their way to our Qingyuan Town. Who knows how many poor, homeless people with nothing to eat will arrive. When that time comes, we should help however we can. We can’t just stand by and watch people starve to death, can we?”

”Also, when we start building our house, a lot of workers will be coming to the village. We’ll have to feed them, so I bought extra.”

’Of course, those weren’t the real reasons. My main goal is to teach that grain and oil shop owner a lesson—an eye for an eye. I can’t tell Uncle Hu, though. Knowing him, he would never agree.’

”Anyway, I’m going to go wash my face. I’m starving!” she said, running off with a grin to keep Uncle Hu from asking any more questions.

When she reached the backyard, Hu Feng was using a cloth to wipe himself down. His bare torso was like a sculpture in a museum, set out for art students to sketch. His muscles were perfectly defined, as if chiseled, without a single ounce of fat. A narrow waist, broad shoulders, and beneath his water-soaked trousers, a firm, toned backside that was enough to make one swallow hard...

The red mark under his right shoulder was particularly noticeable—the memory of him pulling her into his embrace, using his own back to shield her from a brick, flashed through her mind.

Once again, he had stood before her like a towering mountain.

Hu Feng turned and saw Bai Zhi standing dazedly in the yard. He couldn’t resist teasing her, ”What is it? Never seen a shirtless man before?”

Bai Zhi’s face flushed, and she shot him a glare. ”Who says I haven’t? I’ve seen plenty. What’s so great about a bare chest? If you’ve got the guts, why don’t you show me your bare ass!”

’The moment the words left my mouth, I regretted them. My guts twisted with regret. A joke like that would be fine back in the modern world, bantering with colleagues. No one would take it seriously.’

’But this wasn’t modern society...’

Sure enough, Hu Feng froze. He asked, ”What did you just say?”

She quickly shook her head. ”N-Nothing! I didn’t say anything! I didn’t say anything at all.” She whirled around and bolted like a rabbit, vanishing without a trace in the blink of an eye.

Hu Feng blinked and rubbed his ears. ’I didn’t mishear that, did I? There’s no way I misheard that...’

Bai Zhi ran straight back to the wooden cabin without even eating.

Hu Changlin headed toward the backyard, muttering, ”That girl... a moment ago she was saying she was starving, and now she’s run off. Hu Feng, what are you standing there in a daze for? Go eat. When you’re finished, bring some food over to Zhi.”
