A Foodie Transmigrated into the Palace

Chapter 508: Chapter 508: Lady Wang Hangs Herself

Ni Manxue hurriedly said.

”Not much, Miss Ye, please accept it!”

Ye Tang packed up the bundle, which indeed was not very heavy, and smiled lightly.

”If that’s the case, then thank you very much, Miss Ni!”

Xia Tingfeng also stepped forward, smiling in the breeze.

”Since Miss Ye is not fond of riches, then surely you would take pleasure in the bow and daggers!”

Ye Tang turned to look at Xia Tingfeng, her gaze somewhat hazy.

She paused for a moment, then her eyes suddenly brightened.

”A bow and daggers? What does Young Master Xia mean?”

Xia Tingfeng’s handsome thin lips curved up slightly.

”The gifts I had prepared for you earlier! I specifically requested them from the Military Armament Bureau, planning to give them to Miss Ye as a token of gratitude!”

She was unmoved by silver, but surely the weapons used by hunters would stir her heart!

Indeed, Ye Tang’s eyes shone brightly.

”Really?!”

Xia Tingfeng laughed, ”Of course!”

”Just that... the items were left in the Capital City, not brought here! How about Miss Ye stays back and comes with us to retrieve them?”

The goods from the Military Armament Bureau aren’t available on the outside!

Ye Tang was internally torn.

To go or not to go?

Not to go, she truly desired the bow and the daggers, but to go... She looked at Xia Tingfeng and then at Miss Ni.

Oh... What was this situation?!

Ni Manxue seemed to notice her hesitation and immediately laughed and said.

”Since Miss Ye holds them dear, why not come back with us?”

After speaking, she sneaked a glance at Xia Tingfeng, who also happened to look her way.

Ni Manxue felt a sweetness in her heart and hastily lowered her head.

Meanwhile, Ye Tang finally made up her mind.

She tentatively asked.

”How much longer before you set out?”

Xia Tingfeng calculated.

”Less than ten days. We leave for the Capital City after the Mid-Autumn Festival!”

Ye Tang then said.

”That’s still some time away. I will return first, and a few days before you set out, I will come back and leave with you. Does that sound good?”

Upon hearing this, Xia Tingfeng immediately agreed, delighted.

”That would be fine!”

This girl did not care for gold and silver treasures, nor for jewelry and gems; he had not been able to properly offer her a token of gratitude. Now, at last, he could do something for her! She was also someone deserving of pity!

Ye Tang smiled and then took her leave.

Before departing, everyone made plans.

”See you at Mid-Autumn Festival!”

Xia Tingfeng and Ni Manxue happily consented, watching her depart.

...

Ni Manxue wore a veil all the while.

Blushing already after exchanging a few glances with Xia Tingfeng, she hurriedly bid farewell and fled like she was escaping in her sedan chair.

Upon returning home, her heart was still racing!

Dong’er teased her.

”Miss, you’ve finally seen the Marquis again. You should be at ease now!”

It should be known that since Ni Manxue had saved him, the two had not yet met. Even though they were betrothed, they could not meet. She had been tormented for countless days and nights.

Ni Manxue flushed.

”Don’t talk nonsense!”

After saying so, she stood up and absentmindedly began to embroider.

But this time, no blood beads emerged.

After embroidering for the better part of a Shi Chen, her heart gradually calmed down.

...

The days at The Summer Resort were serene and leisurely.

The days in the palace were also very calm.

The slightly favored ones had gone to accompany the Emperor, leaving behind the lesser-favored Honored Ladies and Ladies in the Harem.

Of course, the Noble Consort was there as well.

However, the Noble Consort had been ordered by the Emperor to reflect upon her conduct.

So, she hardly ever went out.

But not going out of Xifu Palace didn’t mean she wouldn’t leave the main hall.

The Noble Concubine still held a deep grudge concerning Lady Wang!

She had originally planned to frame Lady Xia’s brother and the palace consorts for adultery, to make her lose her brother’s support, her family, and the Emperor’s trust.

Yet, she had miscalculated the royal family’s dignity.

Scolded by her cousin, disdained, and locked up in the palace to reflect on her actions.

The most important thing was that she lost the Little Princess.

Just this one thing caused all her two years of planning to go up in flames.

Now, even that bitch Shih Jieyu could follow the Emperor to The Summer Resort.

And she had to stay alone in the palace, with a bunch of out-of-favor little bitches.

She was so unwilling!

But there was nobody else in the palace, and she couldn’t leave.

Who to vent her bottled-up anger on? The answer was: Lady Wang, of course!

Lady Wang was already out of favor.

When she first entered the palace, she was assigned to live in Noble Concubine Shih’s Xifu Palace with Lady Zhou.

At that time, the Empress was in her prime.

So, the two of them often made their way to Jiaofang Hall.

Lady Zhou then took the blame for the Ghost Festival scandal on behalf of Noble Concubine Shih.

After being sent to the Cold Palace, she died.

Only Lady Wang remained.

Learning from Lady Zhou’s lesson, she became much more obedient, but...

She was still an eyesore to Noble Concubine Shih, and this disaster finally fell upon her.

Noble Concubine Shih’s attempt at framing had failed.

So she started to beat and scold Lady Wang even more viciously.

In the hot summer days, she was ordered to kneel in the courtyard until her neck was blistered from the sun.

It hurt with even a touch!

When the weather was cooler or overcast, she would have someone whip her, stab her with needles.

She did not hit the face, just places where bruises wouldn’t be seen.

Apart from being very pale, no external injuries could be seen on the parts of her body that she exposed.

Lady Wang cried day and night in pain.

Noble Concubine Shih stormed over and scolded her loudly.

”You can cry, nobody in the palace will hear you. You could scream your lungs out and no one would know!”

Lady Wang was so scared she was beside herself.

Frightened and beaten, under the dual assault on her body and spirit, she quickly went mad.

The palace maids around her were all newly transferred, with no emotional ties.

Seeing the situation, the palace maid assigned to her gave up caring.

She schemed every day to be transferred elsewhere, not knowing that her next place would be the Mass Burial Mound!

...

Early one morning, the palace maid went as usual to fetch meals. She then put the food box in her mistress’s room and planned to leave.

Just as she turned around, she felt something swaying above her head.

She looked up.

”AHHHHH!!”

A scream pierced the quiet of the Harem.

Lady Wang had hanged herself.

A young and once vibrant life, just like that, was gone.

When Noble Concubine Shih found out, she was not the slightest bit scared, only sneered and instructed.

”Lady Wang was confined by the Emperor. Unable to cope, she hung herself. It’s nothing unusual!”

”Inform the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Let them handle it as they should!”

According to the rules, women who committed suicide by hanging, regardless of their status, were tossed into the Mass Burial Mound. Their families would be banned from having any women enter the palace for three generations.

Noble Concubine Shih was very satisfied, her beautiful eyes brimming with malice.

Heh heh...

She tossed her teacup onto the table and wiped her hands with a handkerchief.

”She brought this on herself!”

Her voice was dark, as if coming from hell.

Ying Qiu broke into a cold sweat behind her.

The Noble Concubine commanded.

”Take care of the people around her too! Don’t bother with the rest; the Ministry of Internal Affairs will report to the Empress!”

”Yes!”

Ying Qiu was somewhat worried.

”Your Grace, what if the Empress sends someone to investigate...”

Noble Concubine Shih sneered coldly.

”The Empress investigate? She’s too busy being pleased with herself to bother investigating!”
