The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 385: Chapter 346: Besides Him, Who Else Is Qualified?

”Who?”

The Defenders all looked at the Elder Celestial Master.

He chuckled softly. ”From the Town Martial Department, He Jian Country!”

”Old He?”

When Old Yao and the others heard that the person the Elder Celestial Master was recommending was actually He Jian Country, they were all a bit stunned.

The truth was, the Martial Arts Alliance and the Town Martial Department had always been on different wavelengths, never quite seeing eye to eye.

Their stances were different, and disagreements were frequent.

They had argued more than once or twice.

The people from the Town Martial Department looked down on the Martial Arts Alliance.

Meanwhile, the members of the Martial Arts Alliance felt that the Town Martial Department, reporting directly to the Martial God, had an arrogant attitude and threw their weight around.

In short, the friction between the Town Martial Department and the Martial Arts Alliance was nothing new.

So, when the Elder Celestial Master proposed Old He to host this Martial Arts exchange, their expressions all darkened.

Only Yi Nanshan wore a faint smile.

Among everyone present, he was probably the only one who got along reasonably well with Old He.

”Old Yao, what are you hesitating for?”

”You said it yourself just now. For this Martial Arts exchange, the foreigners’ intentions aren’t pure, and they’re not coming in peace. If we don’t have an elder at home to keep things in check, who can control the situation?”

”Neither I nor Elder Mu Ru can leave, and the same goes for the rest of you!”

”Besides Old He, is there a more suitable candidate?”

”How about this? If you agree, I’ll personally call Old He and ask him to host the Martial Arts exchange. If you don’t agree, then you can find someone else yourself!”

After Yi Nanshan finished speaking, Old Yao looked up at him, staring for a long moment before finally nodding.

”Fine, fine. Since he’s the one the Elder Celestial Master recommended, what reason do I have to refuse?”

”Besides, Lao Yi is right. Right now, besides He Jian Country, there’s no one else among us who can handle this heavy responsibility. I’ll have to trouble you, then. Let He Jian Country know and ask him to make the trip.”

Hearing this, Yi Nanshan smiled.

”Alright, I’ll give him a call later!”

Old Yao nodded, and the other Defenders said nothing.

They all understood one thing now.

They all needed to remain here as Defenders; no one could leave.

And even if they could leave, they wouldn’t want to go.

This Martial Arts exchange with the Outer Alliance was bound to have some conspiracy hidden within it.

It would be fine if nothing happened, but if something went wrong, none of them could bear that responsibility.

If Old He hosted the exchange instead, he would be the one to take the fall if things went south.

The men in the room were all sly old foxes.

How could they not see through such a simple matter?

No one was willing to say it out loud, but everyone knew exactly what was going on.

「The next day.」

In Jingzhao City, inside the General Director’s office at the Town Martial Department headquarters.

Old He smiled and nodded. ”Lao Yi, it’s a good thing you’re the one calling!”

”If anyone else from your Martial Arts Alliance had called, especially that Yao Tong, I would’ve cursed him out. Asking me to lead the delegation for the Martial Arts exchange? Isn’t that just blatantly setting me up?”

”They’re using all their petty little tricks on me!”

”But you’re different. Since you’re the one who called, I’ll definitely lead this team!”

”Besides, your grandson will be going too, so I have to be there in person!”

”Mm, right... I get it. ’Those not of our kind are sure to have different hearts.’ I understand the principle!”

”Don’t worry. I’ll take Meng Die and Yang Biao with me!”

”Oh, right, Elder Qu and Elder Yang might be coming out of seclusion soon too!”

”If they make it in time, I’ll bring them both along!”

”Including me, Meng Die, and Yang Biao, that’s three Star Tempering Realm Martial Artists. And the two elders are both at the Divine Abyss Realm!”

”I refuse to believe our Town Martial Department can’t suppress those treacherous foreigners! Even if they have ideas, they’ll have to keep them bottled up!”

After saying his piece, Old He agreed a few more times.

Finally, he hung up the phone.

His gaze then shifted to the other two people in his office.

They were none other than Meng Die and Yang Biao.

The three exchanged a smile, and Old He spoke directly, ”You really called it. Lao Yi just called me personally, hoping I’d lead the team for the Martial Arts exchange.”

”It’s a good thing it was him. If it had been anyone else, I would have chewed them out!”

Hearing this, Meng Die couldn’t help but cover her mouth and chuckle.

”Elder He, you can say that to us, but who would believe you if anyone else heard? Weren’t you just clamoring to personally lead the team to the Martial Arts exchange a couple of days ago?”

”Why the change of heart today?”

”Hm? Did I? When did I ever say such a thing?”

Seeing He Jian Country’s denial, even Yang Biao couldn’t help but laugh.

”By the way, how’s the investigation going?”

”Any leads on those people in black?”

As soon as he said this, the expressions on both Meng Die and Yang Biao turned serious.

The smiles vanished from their faces.

Meng Die nodded. ”Elder He, I came back this time specifically to report on this matter.”

”Captain Chu and I have been investigating in secret.”

”We’ve discovered it’s just as Lin Yi said. They’ve been plotting for years and have already infiltrated various departments. We now have a list of names.”

”The people on this list are all undercover agents who have infiltrated our ranks.”

”They are also the main individuals responsible for the repeated operations of those people in black.”

After Meng Die finished speaking, she took out a notebook from her Storage Magical Artifact.

She handed it to Old He, who opened it and took a look.
