Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1754 Connection

Amidst the carnage, Valerian was having the time of his life.

His gray figure zoomed across the battlefield at lightning speed. Wherever he passed, he subtly cast his magic on the enemies and turned their minds slow and cloudy.

The allies took the opportunity of his assistance and quickly dealt the killing blow to the incapacitated enemies.

The little guyʼs speed was so fast that the passersby only saw a gray blur. Sometimes he would transform into an armoured panther and directly land a critical blow on the enemies. At other times, he would be in his cat form and provide assistance to his allies.

On this crowded battlefield, with no Mana Core Magus to stop him, Valerian was practically unstoppable. Of course, the reason why he could move about unhindered was because the enemy Mana Core Magi were already engaged with the Unionʼs Mana Core Magi.

Even if Valerian was cornered by a group of Mana Vortex-level enemies, his speed and strength were enough to deal with them. He wielded powerful enchantment and illusion magic, after all.

In his panther form, he leapt in the air and swiped his powerful and sharp claw at an enemy, instantly shattering the manʼs head. By the time Valerian had landed on the ground, he had already transformed back into a cat.

Getting on his hind legs, he did a quick shuffle. ”Hah-Hah! One-two!”

An allied soldier, who happened to be nearby, glanced at the little cat stupidly dancing on the blood-soaked ground and was dumbfounded.

Suddenly, his eyes narrowed when he saw an enemy soldier pointing a Magic Missile at the cat.

”Watch out!”

The orb of pure mana streaked through the air and accurately struck Valerian before… passing straight through him.

Valerianʼs figure dissipated into gray smoke.

The enemy soldier, who had cast the spell, felt his eyes widen at the scene. Before he could even react, he felt a slight weight pressing on his shoulder.

When he turned, he saw a gray cat perched on his shoulder, pointing a paw right at his face.

Magic Missile!

The soldierʼs head exploded like a watermelon, and his lifeless body tumbled to the ground.

Meanwhile, Valerian lazily somersaulted through the air and landed with ease. He raised his paw to his lips and blew across it.

”Donʼt mess with the dragon,” He said haughtily.

He looked around the chaotic battlefield, looking to see where he could wreak havoc and help his allies, when suddenly his pupils constricted. His tiny frame shuddered involuntarily, and he quickly turned westward, toward the place where Adam had been battling the shadowkins.

”Brother!!” A cry of fear and panic escaped his lips.

Just then, the magical connection that bound him and Adam together had disappeared.

”No! No! No!” His heart was gripped by terror at the possibility of what might have happened to Adam.

The familiar bond tying them together had always been present. Even when Valerian had been slumbering atop the Lotus, he had always felt a strong tether to his brother.

But something had happened now. Something terrible.

He could no longer feel the connection to Adam. He quickly darted between skirmishes and tried to make his way to the edge of the battlefield. But the deeper he headed, the further his destination seemed.

The battlefield was too crowded, too chaotic. Valerian couldnʼt quite stay on track, and his path always deviated due to the flow of battles around him.

”Brother!” Realizing that he was getting nowehere, his tearful eyes flashed with rage.

And the following moment…

Roar!

A thunderous draconic roar tore through the battlefield. The nearby people who heard the bestial cry paused momentarily. And when they turned toward the source of the sound, they saw a giant gray dragon flap his wings and take flight.

The moment he transformed into a dragon, he painted a big target on his back.

Every enemy soldier who gazed at Valerianʼs giant form immediately turned to him and hurled all kinds of spells and projectile weapons at him.

”Leave me alone!” Valerianʼs deep voice boomed across the sky above the battlefield.

Thanks to his sturdy scales, none of the attacks managed to slip through his defenses. But more and more spells kept coming his way, making it difficult for him to fly. It was annoying and infuriating.

”I said leave me alone!!”

His giant figure rippled like the surface of a still lake. A moment later, the gray dragon completely turned invisible.

Having lost a large target, the enemy soldiers on the ground turned their attention away from Valerian.

Somewhere in the crowded battlefield, Ulric had just witnessed everything unfold with wide eyes. Surrounded by a circle of corpses, he looked at the spot where Valerian had just disappeared and muttered in disbelief, ”Just what the hell happened to him?!”

He knew the close bond the dragon and the Dark King shared. In fact, everyone aboard the Red Wind was aware of it. And now that he saw Valerian seemingly lose control and fly off into the distance, he couldnʼt help but hesitate.

The Dark King had offered Ulric the opportunity of a lifetime when he welcomed him into his army. If something happened to Valerian...

In the end, he gnashed his teeth and cursed, ”Damn it!”

He spun the twin axes in his hands, flinging the blood from their blades. He turned toward the direction he had last seen Valerian fly.

Then he surged forward, exploding into a whirlwind of steel and violence as he carved a bloody path through the sea of enemies.

Ulric didnʼt know how long it had taken him to reach the edge of the battlefield.

His body was filled with injuries, and his robes were drenched in blood. But he was finally able to catch up to the dragon.

In a vast clearing that showed obvious signs of intense battle, he noticed a gray cat running around, screaming, ”Brother! Brother, where are you!”

Ulric spotted a corpse nearby. Upon inspection, he noticed that it belonged to one of those otherworldly devils that had thrown the Unionʼs camps into chaos over the previous nights.

”Lord Valerian!” He called out in a hoarse voice.

The little guy abruptly turned around, his topaz eyes filled with tears. At first, he thought it was an enemy and couldnʼt help but bare his fangs.

But when he saw who it was, he broke into even more tears. ”Ulric! Ulric!”

”Lord Valerian, are you crazy?!” the man blurted out as he dropped to his knee, catching the gray cat in his embrace.

”Ulric!” Valerian looked up at him and cried out, ”Brotherʼs gone! Heʼs… gone.”

Listening to those words, Ulricʼs heart sank. ”Wh-What… what do you mean heʼs gone?!”

Valerain inhaled deeply. ”I… I canʼt sense him anymore!”

Ulricʼs eyes trembled, and he was overcome by disbelief. ”Donʼt tell me… is the Dark King… is he…”

”No! Of course, not!” The little guy quickly shook his head.

He then turned around, his gaze locking onto the exact spot where Adam had disappeared.

”Brotherʼs gone, but…”

”But what?!” Ulric pressed.

”I can still feel it,” Valerian said in between sobs.

”Itʼs faint, very faint. But I can still feel my connection to him!”
