Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1405: Perspective

The ship cut steadily across the waters, its sails full as it followed the trade route towards its destination.

Waves rolled against the hull in a slow, rhythmic pattern, and the creak of timber carried through the deck as the vessel moved onward beneath the open sky.

Below deck, in a small private cabin, Adam sat alone at a small table. A single oil lamp hung above him, its warm light casting soft shadows across the wooden walls.

He held onto a feathered quill, and before him lay a sheet of parchment. There were so many things on his mind that he wanted to write down, but he didn’t know where to begin.

A long time later, he let out a light chuckle as he shook his head ever so slightly.

And then, the quill in his hand began to dance across the paper.

’Dear old man,

’I hope you’re doing well. I know it’s been a long time since I last spoke to you. I’m not trying to make any excuses, but know that I was simply unable to.

’The last few years have been... quite eventful, to say the least. I’ll tell you everything when we meet in person. That day is not so far. I truly look forward to meeting you and Blackie.

’Oh, as you can already tell from this letter, I am alive and well. In fact, I’ve never felt so alive. I’ve recovered from my past injuries and am in far better shape. So, don’t you worry.

’I hope you and the others have followed through with Operation Constantine. I don’t know how much time has passed since the Battle of Ravenfell. Everything’s been a blur, to be honest.

’But the quicker we follow through with the plan, the more things align in our favor when the great war arrives. Rest assured, I’ve taken care of things in Mabi and Yen-Lu. As for Europa and Indus... I’ll deal with those issues as well. I hope everything is ready on your side.

’There are still a few things I need to take care of before I come to Ulier. It won’t take long. I hope. I’ve gathered critical intelligence in the time I’ve spent here. I’ll tell you all about it when we meet. It’s not safe to discuss such matters through letters.

’By the way, have you met my sister? I hope you have. I worry for her well-being. Please write back to me as soon as you get this letter.

’And lastly, please keep my existence a secret. It’s better for the world to believe that I’m dead or missing.

’I look forward to hearing from you.

’Your student.

’Adam.’

The youth exhaled a heavy breath, then sealed the letters in layers of rune magic. The contents of the letter would only become visible when Berger infused his mana into it. This ensured the message remained secure.

After sealing the letter, he weaved a simple hand seal and summoned a tiny serpent from the Coil.

”You know the drill.” Adam gently patted the snake on the head.

The little creature clamped the letter in its jaw and slipped into the portal.

Adam stretched his hands and let out a lazy sigh. ”Now that that’s out of the way...”

He leaned in his chair and fell into deep thought.

Who would have thought the ship would take me to Anna’s kingdom...

I was planning to head to Europa anyway, but this is a welcome surprise. Perhaps I should drop by her home and see how everyone’s doing.

His eyes then narrowed, his pupils gleaming with a cold light.

Then I’ll infiltrate the Brotherhood’s headquarters.

But before I carry out my plan, I need to know how much time has passed...

Adam took deep breaths to calm down the raging emotions in his heart. His hands clenched and unclenched many times.

He had still not forgotten about what the Cult of Bones had done to him. He was also aware of the Twilight Brotherhood’s betrayal.

But now was not the time to retaliate.

He had to be patient.

I need to understand how the world has changed in my absence, he thought to himself as he headed to the restroom.

After I’ve gotten information from the old man, I’ll make my move.

Adam glanced at his reflection in the mirror. He ran a hand through his thick, messy beard. In order to groom himself, he’d need a blade with sturdiness and sharpness equivalent to a Grade 4 artifact.

Forget it, I’ll just change my appearance once I set foot in Amberfall.

Having come to a decision, he flickered out of the restroom. A few moments later, he appeared on the mast of the ship.

Feeling the warm breeze brushing against his face, he couldn’t help but close his eyes and smile.

After spending so many years in the Dark Valley, he had almost forgotten how the world around him felt. He learnt the value of these little things only when he was deprived of them.

Life sure has a way of helping you put things into perspective, he thought to himself.

He slowly opened his eyes again as he took in the surroundings.

After the transformation, the change in his eyesight was profound. He no longer saw the world as a simple arrangement of light and color.

Depths sharpened to an unnatural degree, distances resolving with perfect clarity no matter how far he looked. But despite this expanded perception, his vision remained stable.

No overwhelming flood of information, no intrusive images of the abomination, like the founder mentioned in his journal. The new pair of eyes fed him only what his mind could endure. Everything else stayed locked behind incomprehensible symbolisms, just out of reach.

What he saw now was clearer, deeper, and heavier with meaning.

Perhaps the changes in my body would start to manifest as I grow more powerful, he thought to himself.

Maybe the otherworldly knowledge deep in my consciousness will begin to unravel as I ascend the arcane ranks.

My transformation certainly came with a price.

I just don’t know what it is yet...

But there was one thing he did know. Or rather, he felt it instinctively.

Pure mana swirled around his hand as Adam studied it with a thoughtful expression.

I feel like... my understanding of the School of Summoning has deepened.

Indeed, it had.

And it was related...

To the concept of gates.
